According to the director the main actress was hired with long hair and cut it short right before filming. You’ve started the great Frank Henenlotter NY trilogy. Add Brain Damage and Frankenhooker to your long list.

This is a weirdo horror classic that could, man. It had the budget of a ham sammich, and zero street permits, so it results in that comfortable intimacy that only guerilla-style filming can getcha; shoot fast and hurry back in the van, that cop's turning around! Now, if you dare to believe it, _this movie's sequels start to get a little weird,_ but I'll leave that up to you, buddy. Couple facts here, the shots of Belial's hand-puppetry was done either by the youngest kid on the set (some little girl), or the director who was IN that dresser. Also, the naked dream sequence was all done with twilight filming hours and some liquid courage, mostly because it was _cold._

I've never seen original "Maniac" ('80) on here. Or anywhere. I mentioned it looong time ago. As someone who saw in theaters "Halloween" at 7 yro & both "Friday The 13th" & "The Shining" back to back at 9, I'm telling you that's the shit! My all-time fave. Can't be topped that one. You should get on it, bro. Hope the Showdown clan doing well.🙏❤
    See ya!

I heartily second the suggestion of Maniac for review/reaction on Popcorn Reactions because this channel is the ONLY place fit to render due justice to this now sorely neglected slasher era classic directed by NYC indie vet Bill Lustig and starring the late great 70s-80s era character actor Joe Spinnel who graced the whole plethora of gritty urban classics from Taxi Driver to Rocky (76) to Godfather Part one AND two. Spinell's title character (named Frank Zito) is in a whole other league than the increasingly dull and predictable killers of the Friday and Halloween variety with their disguise masks and ghostly costumes. One minute Frank Zito is pouring his tortured heart out in anguish and the next he's stalking helpless prey thru deserted subway passages, his monumental granite face the picture of homicidal fury, more like an unstoppable force of wild nature than the pale ghostly disguised psychokillers of the Friday and Halloween variety. I would like to see a reaction of Maniac here based almost purely on the strength of Joe Spinnel's performance. For all his gritty roles seldom did he command a screen with the force he brought to Maniac and the role is his tour D' force. I cannot neglect to emphasize all the fine entertaining elements that characterize Maniac including Tom Savini's groundbreaking gore FX set pieces, including a kill scene starring Savini himself that has to be seen to be believed.the wild set pieces, the twists of fate, the earnest sincere character arcs and overwhelming aura of mystery and profound morbidity all ring true and the authentically raunchy Times Square atmosphere and humor courtesy of Bill Lustig,, who also plays a role in the movie as a cynical smart mouthed desk clerk at a seedy Times Square no tell hotel, cements the mix in a way the tired out franchise titles would never match or surpass. The profile of Maniac has slipped into obscurity a little bit because of the lack of franchise support and it's a shame, it's long overdue to blow the mothballs off Maniac and pour some more love on it's magnificence and just enjoy the ride again. Let Spinnel. Lustig, Savini and co-starring fan favorite Caroline Munro shine and strut their stuff again, especially Joe Spinnel with his towering can't keep your eyes off him presence, a monumental testament to his unforgettable talent, playing a haunted, tormented man in a delirium of savage rage and profound sorrow, an unstoppable force of wild nature and dashed humanity like a cannonball of homicidal fury.in the skin of a forsaken child. His performance is unforgettable and Popcorn Reactions is the ONLY place fit to revisit the majesty of Maniac. It's so good I can taste it just imagining that reaction it would blow the roof off the house. Please make it happen Popcorn Reactions you got this I can't wait. Maniac was always a crowd pleaser fan favorite and doesn't deserve it's lack of limelight. It was a seminal film in the phenomenon of the 80s slasher and carved its own unique path to horror glory, never to be matched or imitated. Let's celebrate Maniac again the time is long overdue and Popcorn Reactions is the perfect venue for the festivities

Happy Halloween yourself bud, anybody who knows about Maniac is a person of my own heart. You called it, it needs to happen, I couldn't wait to reply and back you up, I like very many horror and slasher movies but Maniac is special and should be treated like it. It's time to rescue Maniac from obscurity and breathe life back into it. Thanks so much for introducing the idea, I'm ashamed I didn't do it first but thank goodness you were on the case. It's my pleasure to back you up.

Btw a good place to access Maniac (80) right now is Tubi streaming service, don't know for how long , Tubi rotates content pretty frequently but it's on there right now. Just make sure you get the original Maniac because there's also a shitty remake of it and that's on Tubi also. Only the first, original Maniac will do. Instead of Joe Spinnel the remake of Maniac (80) stars Elijah Wood in the lead role lmao. Can you believe that shit?

Thanks for this great reaction/review to one of my favorite movies it's like watching it all over again with a great. funny ass new friend.. I strongly identify with this movie being a longtime resident of a big city SRO hotel. Like you said at the start I feel I got the RIGHT to speak my opinion about this movie and everything in it. Because I EARNED the dues the hard way , this ain't no casual review to me, this shit belongs to my life and I belong to IT. Again, thanks and I love the spirit of your channel. My pleasure Popcorn Reactions. Expect to see me around all the time, in the comments, offering my knowledge and opinions about everything. I will definitely be clicking likes, and shares in every possible direction with notifications ON permanently. I'm not going anywhere so I'm subbed up and won't miss anything.. you got a follower for life and I intend to make the most of my access to your content. Love what you do Popcorn, hope you stay around forever because let's face it most Reaction content on CZcams is bullshit, easy to fake ,easy to forget low hanging fruit ad fodder with nothing to offer except false enthusiasm and cold takes that real movie lovers hate and dump at the first opportunity when something else crosses their plate. Your channel is the real deal, the kind of content you don't discard lightly. I love the way you engage with the viewers, in fact we've already exchanged words a few times and I appreciate the effort to make everybody welcome and a part of the whole experience. I expect to stick around unconditionally and you'll be hearing from me a lot. Hope I don't get on your nerves lol but I have no intentions of burning any bridge so I ll hit you up when the time is just right. I don't want to try to make it all about me or ordering things around. I like the natural flow of your content and the way you do it, you're the heart and soul of the channel and I won't try to step on your toes or manipulate what you do. Love it Popcorn Reactions. I fully trust you'll do right by the audience, no matter what differences of opinion might arise it's not important. That's what keeps it interesting vs the hundreds of copycat, low effort Reaction crap that infests CZcams like a SRO hotel fleabag. Your channel is unique in that crowded field and I'm very grateful I came to discover Popcorn Reactions. It's my go to place every time no matter what movie is involved or whatever controvesey is being whipped up by unhappy people with an agenda I don't give a damn. Keep it real Popcorn Reactions I already know you will.

@I heartily second the suggestion of Maniac (80) director: Bill Lustig for review/reaction on Popcorn Reactions this channel would be the perfect venue for that purpose and Maniac is a now sorely neglected classic and a seminal film in the phenomenon of 80s slasher horror, for a million reasons, including the huge controversy that accompanied the film's release and promotional campaign which in itself is a subject of incredible interest in terms of the shifting social attitudes about horror movies, particularly slashers, in the late 70s-early 80s period that birthed the term 'slasher movie'. Same time when Halloween, Friday The 13th and so many others came out, including the amazing Maniac. Unlike Michael Meyers, Jason and Freddy, there's no franchise support for Maniac so the movie's profile and reputation has slipped a little bit into obscurity, so unjustly because Maniac was always a crowd pleaser fan favorite and it's a shame, it's long about time to revisit Maniac and reflect on the incredible, scene stealing, can't take your eyes off him performance of the late great Joe Spinnel as the title character. Spinnel was a mainstay character actor in 70s-80s urban classics, in films from Taxi Driver, to Rocky (76) to Godfather Part one AND two and many many more but seldom did he command a screen like he did in Maniac, pouring his tortured heart out in anguish one minute and stalking a helpless victim thru deserted subway passages the next, his face a monumental mask of homicidal fury, more a raging force of wild nature than the disguised, ghostly masked and costumed psychokillers of the Friday and Halloween variety. Thanks for the love Popcorn Reactions I already told you I think Popcorn Reactions is the best reaction channel on CZcams, and no word of a lie I mean it. Let's face it, most reaction content on CZcams or anywhere is weak sauce bullshit where the host or hosts phone It in, offering nothing but false enthusiasm and cold takes that real movie lovers hate and will dump at the first opportunity when something else crosses their plate. Popcorn Reactions on the other hand is the real deal, the kind of content you don't discard or ignore lightly. I love the whole approach of Popcorn Reactions and tbh it's really the only reaction channel I pay much attention to anymore. I love the wild, party atmosphere and the effort to welcome everybody and all perspectives, no matter what movie is involved and what differences of opinion might be astir. I don't give a damn if there are unhappy people trying to force an agenda, I just enjoy the pure, sweet. innocent joy of movies that Popcorn Reactions represents so well, so entertainingly and openly. That's the kind of reaction content that real movie lovers like and Popcorn Reactions delivers in spades every single time, no disappointments on Popcorn Reactions ever, no matter what movie is involved or what kind of movie or what the prevailing opinions are about the movie, at Popcorn Reactions none of that matters, it's about the MOVIE and the Reactions are natural, unforced and believable and still funny as hell and it all just encourages a joy of movies that comes naturally to some people, maybe not to others but who cares about that, movie reaction channels are for people who love movies, not unhappy busybodies who have a problem with movies and the people who love and support their favorite movies. Popcorn Reactions was the reaction channel that's just MADE to entertain ME and I like to express my support for Popcorn Reactions.
