- This banana leaf wrapped present is called mok pa. Pa means fish. It’s a Lao food that takes all the signature aromatics and flavors and pairs it with fresh catfish. The unique part of this dish is the dill to give it a different flavor profile compared to other Lao dishes. After it finishes steaming, make sure you have freshly cooked sticky rice to eat with it. When you open this Lao food package, you will feel like its a holiday every time.

Mmm this is such a comfort dish for me. My mom uses fatty pieces of salmon for mok pa and it’s just heavenly. Sometimes she’ll add mixed mushrooms, which then really kicks up the umami flavors like wow, wow, wow! Great job Saeng!
I eat this all my life and never had I ever got tire of it. It's the type of food that you can't stop eating even when you're full, just like curry and steameolls cover in spicy peanut sauce. It's just so good!
Sticky rice is a must for the fish!
Eat til full, 1 hour later still crave them.
The dill always shine in this dish!
My sister in law made this last year. So good. Thanks for the recipe. Can’t wait to try it myself.

@@SaengsKitchen we’ve enjoyed all your videos and love you being amazing!!!
I really agree that the Dill brings out the peculiar great taste of this dish. My first time to use dill. My new discovery in my life. Lol. And I used a kitchen tie instead of the skewer.
Then my banana leaves have some slits - so what I did was secured it with aluminum foil( outside part) so the sauce won’t seep out. Thank u really for this dish 😀
Looks so yummy!;)
Looks good…got to try it. Thank you for sharing. 😋😋

@@SaengsKitchen come out for my beach camping bday in September! 😛 💓
Where can I get that shirt?
Sap sap! I just want the fish heads and fatty brain please. 😋
Can this be preppep and wrapped the night before cooking?
Can I sub cilantro for dill?
Do you have a picture of the best padek brand in store? I would love to make this.
Hi … I have making it for meal prep on/ff.. Really good,, any plans for your next video??? How about meal prep with Lao food..please 😁
I’ve actually had the lao meal prep idea on the back burner. But I do hope to make it soon!
can I use jasmine rice if I don't have sticky rice for paste?
Looks delicious! Can you use the already grounded up rice powder instead? The kind that they use for laab?
No,,. It don't give that sticky taste...The soak sticky rice ,dill...and the fermented fish paste that's what bring out the best of this dish and give it a balance favor.and texture..The dill help kill the smells
.and give it that special taste... Without those ingredient don't even tried...to much fish smell..
😍💓🌈😘😋🤤
I tried to click on the recipe link but it is invalid
Is mok gai the same?
My dang banana leaves always rip before I can get one fold.
Can someone post a link or brand of the steamer. I have a bamboo steamer, but it's starting to fall apart. Thanks. Good food
Don't have any coriander root in the asian stores around my area. Without it, will the flavour be different?
No ,but the dill is , the more the Merrier
The link doesn't work
Do you have the restaurant in Los Angeles?
I do not have a restaurant
@@SaengsKitchen ok i just wondering im going to visit LA soon. and watching your CZcams the food that you make look good
what can i substitute if i cant get banana leaves
Heavy duty tin foil will work. You just won’t get the fragrance of the banana leaves
Can basil be added?
It can but I’d say it throws off the flavor a bit since dill is supposed to be dominant in this dish
What brand of padek?
Pan tai
Can I use tilapia?
You can use any protein, it's even good with chicken
DILLicious 😂
Does it have to be catfish?? Can it be a white bass
White bass will work too!
Is there anything I can substitute for Dill?
probably another herb that you enjoy. maybe basil?
