    I put a full stage 1 with the EBS, and vied devices on my iron 883 from DK and it gave me a completely different bike! Can’t emphasize enough what a massive difference it made in performance!! If you have a sportster you absolutely MUST put a DK stage 1 on your bike. It should be mandatory!
    I no longer have my 883, just traded in for a 21, Low Rider S and you better believe I’m coming back to DK customs for all my performance needs!

      Good to hear you enjoyed the benefits of a True Stage I upgrade on your 883.
      So many folks get a mediocre "Stage I" and don't get much benefit at all. Then they go an spend more money doing a Stage II (or more) just to get the power increase that they could with a True Stage I.
      Thank you for your comment and we're looking forward to hearing how you like your LRS upgrades. 👍

    I have been running an Outlaw air cleaner system with DK breather bolts since 2014 and its the best system out there hands down , it's durable, delivers the performance gains to complete the perfect stage 1 on my Sportster. I can honestly say using their Outlaw system for so many years is the best money can buy for your Sporty.

    I did a stage 1 with the Arlen Ness monster sucker and a fp3 fuel pack. I ran the tune with the stock airfilter and the bike ran great. Then ran the tune with the Arlen ness filter and it was the same. I can hear it sucking air but honestly the biggest change with the bike was a tune it runs perfect regardless of the aircleaner. Way more smooth throttle response than stock without a tuner

    Reminds me of the old breathers we had on our old carburetors in our hot rods back in the 70's and 80's. Basically just two aluminum pans with a filter in between them. The more free flowing air you can get into the intake the better it is for your engine, fuel mileage and heat desapation.

    @larryp4055 Před 2 lety +2

    I have always judged my modifications with a time slip from the drag strip or a Dyno. Without those numbers you are just guessing or what you think you feel. Air has a lot of obstacles before it reaches the combustion chamber other than the air filter. You buy something put in on and say " omg that's way better" is it ? And 1 or 2 hp ain't enough to write home about.

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  Před 9 měsíci

      Yes, when looking for performance (not just a fun or enjoyable feeling while riding) then objective testing is best.
      AGREE 100 with you on there is much more going on to get a full intake charge than just the filter element. Here is a video we did, objective testing, of tracking down the difference on two seemingly same intakes.
      czcams.com/video/Z2y2-MQrGO8/video.html
      Not a lot of difference, but a very marked & consistent difference, showing that HOW the air flows after passing thru the element does make a difference.

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  Před 3 lety +1

      They feed hot, oily, oxygen depleted air into the carb/throttle body, and then into the combustion chamber. This is a power robber and also results in reduced longevity and tune stability. They also use a less expensive manufacturing process that results in harmonic distortion (which hurts air flow). Fortunately you can retrofit and external breather system to it and make it better.

Runs Vance & Hines longshots (no sensers fitted) go figure and a Screaming Eagle Super Tuner which has never been used. The reason for the tuner was a Geelong HD recommendation.
    What would you suggest I should go for to improve overall performance but keep the look stock (606 install kit etc.), and do you send to Australia.
    Note : you did mention a slightly smaller filter option before the 606 kit. Does a catch can/Filter and hoses come with the kit?

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  Před rokem +1

      Yes, that seems on the surface a good idea. However, we have done the same tests and found that how the air flows after it passes thru the filter element makes a big difference in power.
      We have also done many dyno runs with no air cleaner, and the power increase is not nearly as great as with an air cleaner that is designed properly.
      Air flowing, unimpeded into the mouth of the throttle body will get a little more power than most stock air cleaner, but not nearly as much as any of the air cleaners in this video- czcams.com/video/xP7wxWQmSa8/video.html
      Here's another video that shows two different air cleaners, both use the same exact filter element, but one produces more power than the other because of How the air flows into the throttle body.

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  Před 29 dny +1

      We have not specifically tested that but we have never noticed a difference.
      There are much more important factors with Harley applications such as the quality of air intake, air flow characteristics after entering the air box, etc. It is my understanding that oil soaked cotton filter media (K&N) is the best for air flow or performance but this difference is indiscernible by seat of the pants... It would take dyno testing to identify the small difference.

      If you have a Sportster or any Twin Cam, they come too lean from the factory, and the first thing to be done to those is either a tuner or a XiED product. You want to do one of those before changing intake or exhaust.

      Norman,
      Hope you get a good deal on the leftover. 2024's are no different than 2023's, except for the colors.
      The lowest profile, AND best breathing air cleaner for the Tri Glide is the 828. You can see all the cover choices on the 828 at this link- www.dkcustomproducts.com/milwaukee-eight-outlaw-hiflow-828-air-cleaner-complete-systems-96.htm
      This air cleaner will handle air flow needs all the way up to a Stage IV and also a 135.
      A very close second choice, but it is not as low profile as the 828, is the 606, and it can be seen at this link- www.dkcustomproducts.com/milwaukee-eight-model-hiflow-606-air-cleaners-complete-systems-c657-222.htm
      You might be surprised how much power a properly set up Stage I will deliver. We have a video with details on how to get Stage II type power out of a Stage I at this link- czcams.com/video/GK5x3lcQvJU/video.html
      After I did a proper Stage I, as outlined in the above video, I have done a Stage II on my Tri Glide.....I did not do it to get more power (although I did get a lot of extra power out of it), I did it because I needed a better oil pump than what came on my 2019. While I was in there anyway, for the oil pump, I went ahead and did a Stage II cam.
      I would NOT put in a Stage II cam without doing all the things outlined in the Foundation video above...it will generate too much heat, which will accelerate wear on the engine.
      Here is a video on my Stage II- czcams.com/video/Ax1e2gNvdsk/video.html
      Yeah, a good warranty can be had from Motorcycle Agent (and if you mention DK Custom you get a discount). You can see a video on that here- czcams.com/video/p8U4XsHyBug/video.html

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  Před rokem

      I understand why you think that. However, there are three factors that you are not taking into account:
      1. Most air cleaner setups are feeding hot, oily, oxygen depleted air into the air cleaner, BYPASSING the filter element. These DO NOT produce as much power as our air cleaners. When you put oily oxygen depleted air into the combustion chambers you DO NOT get as much power as when that is not going into the combustion chambers, like on our air cleaners.
      2. Heat robs power. If you doubt that, look at this video- czcams.com/video/5PxJ8PvcVtc/video.html Most air cleaners are feeding hot air into the air cleaner, robbing power. Ours do not.
      3. HOW the air flows AFTER it passes thru the filter element has an effect on power production. We show that in a test in this video-
      czcams.com/video/Z2y2-MQrGO8/video.html
      Oh, and it does matter how the shell is formed...some, mostly OEM, created a hot box effect by being too enclosed. That is discussed in this video- czcams.com/video/tJXGEwLCNDw/video.html

    Good video guys, I appreciate thoughtful opinions that make me think. Regarding an external breather system, I don't think you can just say 'a lot of people know' and show a picture of a dirty piston to make your point. In a perfect world, I would not route crankcase breath back into the throttle body. However, my '07 stock Heritage burns no oil and has all the performance I need. Have I seen the pistons heads - no. Would external breathing make my engine last 100K instead of 95K miles - maybe. I don't really want to mod my bike with extra tubes and a catch can for an arguable reason. You need data to support an argument. Minimally, 100s of examples of the same air filters, engines, rode the same way, the same miles with the same engine mappings, engine oil and plugs. Then examine the torque and piston heads. Otherwise, it is just speculation and anecdotes regarding how big a deal internal breathing is on modern Harley engines. Too many people are riding stock bikes too many miles without problems to make this claim without data. Just my humble non-expert opinion.

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  Před 3 lety +4

      Thanks man, glad you enjoyed the video.
      It is common knowledge that routing blow-by into the intake gums up sensors, reduces performance (because oxygen depleted air taking space in the the combustion chamber reduces the power of the charge, & more), and builds carbon deposits, changing compression ratios, making a once good tune not so good.
      A simple google search on the subject will yield 100's of thousands of results. Because it is common knowledge among engine builders and those looking to get the most out of the engines, we do not spend a lot of time on that...we do spend some time on how it also applies to Harley engines, just like other engines.
      For that reason we do have a couple of dyno charts of Harley's (this common knowledge applies to all 4-strike internal combustion engines) so that one can see the difference it makes performance wise on HD's.
      The charts can be seen at these links- www.dkcustomproducts.com/media/wysiwyg/breathertest_1.jpg

      Perhaps you did not watch the video? We clearly outline, in this video, the differences. The two biggest ones are:
      1. The S&S feeds hot, oily, oxygen depleted air into the combustion chamber. This not only robs power, but also creates tune instability and reduced engine life. You can see more on this subject in this video- czcams.com/video/EfDeFZblMck/video.html
      2. How the air flows AFTER it has passed thru the filter element has a significant effect on performance. We have a video on that subject here- czcams.com/video/Z2y2-MQrGO8/video.html

      More filter area is not always the answer...HOW the air flows after it passes thru the filter element is very important when wanting to get the most power.
      We discovered this decades ago, seat of the pants, and then about 15 years ago we did a ton of tests on the dyno.
      Sporty Evolution engines, Twin Cam Engines and recently M8 engines were all tested the same way.
      1. Do pulls with NO air filter element or air filter box...cannot get more free flowing than that
      2. Do pulls with any free flowing air cleaner (S&S, DK Outlaw, AN, SE, K&N) with an EBS, and they ALL produced More power with the air cleaner & filter element installed. (although they did not all produce the same power, they did all produce more than when it was the most free flowing with nothing installed)
      How the air flows after it passes thru the filter element has a major effect on the "organization" of the air going into the throttle body, which as an affect on combustion (power source).
      btw, thank you for your interest in our Transformer system, much appreciated. If you do do end up get an air cleaner that is not compatible with the Transformer, we have many other External Breather Systems that will fit almost every air cleaner made.

    That fourth factor. Airflow AFTER filtering and before getting to the cylinders. Manufacturers of cars, trucks, and bikes all have used some sort of bell mouth or smooth hose to straighten air flow. In particular on our harleys, bell mouth inlets or "velocity stack" rounded edges that smoothly transition the airflow inside the air cleaner just before the throttle is important. Many aftermarket air cleaners have a flat, sharp edge and a hole leading into the throttle. This is TERRIBLE design and makes the airflow not just turbulent with dead spots and sputters at low rpm- it also makes the air column at the throttle tighter and smaller in diameter. Small vortexes come off the sharp edge of the inlet hole that prevents the full diameter of the hole to be able to flow. These designs restrict the air flow and can actually make the bike run worse and slower than the stock setup. There are some videos showing this phenomenon on CZcams.

      @@Bigiron429 The backplate does not flow well, but the biggest thing is that it feeds hot, oily, oxygen depleted air into the throttle body (which can gum up the sensors) and then into the combustion chambers, which rob performance.
      You can see details and photos of what happens when you run this type of air cleaner on a bike at this link- www.dkcustomproducts.com/overview-of-external-breather-systems-ebs.htm

    All I ever see from a stage 1 upgrade form HD is more noise, so for some reason people think they have more power, lol.

      Yep, most folks that do a HD (Screamin' Eagle) Stage I see little to no improvement in power....but as you say, they are a bit louder than stock, giving some the illusion of more power.
