    I actually like the look of the OEM air box on my 2021 StGlide, but thinking about its large backplate size and it's close proximity to the cyinders if heat trap is an issue..or should that factor alone be a concern? Currently I have my tank front lifted 20mm, added oil cooler fan, crankcase vented, cobra 909 slip ons with baffles and Torque Inserts, getting 46- 49 mpg regularly, I'm thinking about improving air intake flow..wondering about a K&N 1717 filter only, if it would be a noticeable improvement..or if looking into your new convertible air box might yield a better performance gain(?)

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  Před 2 lety +1

      The hot box is definitely a power robber. (see video below)
      The filter will be an improvement over the OEM filter. Using a set up like linked below with your stock cover is an even larger improvement.

    Very interesting. Does extra tuning need to be done with any of these air cleaners for an 883?

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  Před rokem

      All EFI (2007 and later) Sportsters run too lean from the factory, even when running the stock air cleaner and exhaust. If you do not already have free flow intake and exhaust, along with a matching tune, then you will want to richen up your AFR when putting one of these on.
      Here is a link to the different tuners we use and recommend. (the X or ViED's work really well on Sportsters for this situation.

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes, the 828 will work much better because of the External Breather System. The air cleaner you have now is feeding hot, oily, oxygen depleted air into the intake. This is a power robber, and also created tune instability and other problems. However, you can get an EBS for the air cleaner you have now and then it will function very similarly to the 828.

    Watched a few videos on the air cleaners, I don't hear too much about the Vanes and Hines air cleaners. When I bought my bike, it already had Vanes and Hines exhaust but still have the stock air cleaner. Would like to change it out in the future. So what is your opinion on the Vanes and Hines compared to DK customs air cleaners?

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  Před 8 měsíci

      Vance & Hines air cleaners are good, but the main difference between our Air Cleaners and the Vance & Hines is that all of our Air Cleaners are externally vented. The biggest advantage comes in venting your air cleaner externally so that your motor will get the cool dry air instead of hot oily air.

    What's the difference in power between the 636v and the bigger 828 on a M8 114? (Assuming the 828 is available)

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  Před 2 lety

      The 828 is available for M8's. You can see them at the following link. Also, there are 3 new designs for the 828 being introduced this coming weekend, if you decide you want an 828, you may want to look on Saturday or Sunday to see if you like any of the 3 new cover designs. www.dkcustomproducts.com/milwaukee-eight-outlaw-hiflow-828-air-cleaner-complete-systems-40.htm
      Regarding the difference in power between the 636v and the 828, typically you will see between 2-4% More power out of the 636v. The 636v has a patent pending design that generates a Venturi Effect that gives a bit more of a fresh charge on each combustion stroke. Depending on how you ride, you may or may not be able to feel the difference.

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  Před 3 lety +2

      Only if they see it. Per the Federal Law of the Consumer protection act it does not, BUT Harley and the EPA entered into an illegal agreement so that on 2017+ Harley's, any change to the engine voids the powertrain warranty. Rather than fight their illegal collusion, if you ever need to take the bike in for warranty work, it is easy to remove the air cleaner and put the stock one back on. Takes about 15 minutes.
      That way you can run what you want to on your bike and not have any issues.

      All Twin Cams since 2007 run too lean from the factory. Even in stock condition, they will benefit greatly from richening up the AFR. You can see some inexpensive ways to do that at this link- www.dkcustomproducts.com/xied-vied-fuel-management-c121-260.htm
      When adding open pipes and/or air cleaner, it is important to richen it up to reduce heat damage.
      Here is a video on the subject- czcams.com/video/gOeJ6Mx_mQo/video.html

    Contradiction in the video and what you have on your web page. On your web page, the 425 is stated as, "The Outlaw HiFlow 425 System will give your Twin Cam the Air it needs to Produce Maximum Power. CLEAN AIR - No dirty air routed back in! ". I baught one and yes, it's not good enough for my Twin Cam, but I went along with the information provided on your web page which should be updated. I had found this video after the purchase and wish it was the other way round. The product is very well made, but again, the customer should have all the information provided to him that isn't contradictory and shouldn't have to accidently find videos that prove that he's baught the wrong product.

      Karol, First, let me apologize for the confusion caused by the discrepancy between our video and the information on our website. We deeply regret any frustration this has caused you.
      We are currently updating our website to include the following information: "The Outlaw HiFlow 425 System will give your Twin Cam the air it needs to produce maximum power, up to 4000 RPM. If you regularly ride at RPMs higher than 4000, then it is best to get a 587 or larger intake. While it may not be optimal above 4000 RPM, it is still a significant improvement over the stock intake."
      Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We would be happy to exchange your 425 for a 587 or 606 Air Cleaner. Please email our customer service at Support@DKCustomProducts.com to initiate the exchange.
      Once again, we apologize for the oversight and appreciate your feedback. We are committed to ensuring that all future customers have accurate information. Thank you for your business and for commenting! 👍 MB

      @@DKCustomProducts Hi MB.
      Thanks for your reply.
      Like I mentioned, it's a great product, and I specifically enjoyed having the catch can which helped in keeping the oil out of the filter.
      I would gladly exchange it for a 587, but I don't think I have the box anymore and I am since selling the bike I had rebuilt.
      I'm currently running an S&S teardrop on it and will opt out of the exchange option since I'm across the pond and it wouldn't be cost efficient for me.
      Nevertheless, the mere fact that you responded in the way you did, says alot about your approach to your customers, which in today's world is rare.
      Very kind regards,
      KD

    What about Velocity stacks ?

    • @DKCustomProducts
      @DKCustomProducts  Před 3 lety +1

      There are three reasons we did not include the Velocity Stacks in this video:
      1. This was more on the differences between the Round style K&N filter Performance Air Cleaners
      2. While the Velocity Stacks are MUCH better than the stock air cleaner, they do not deliver as much performance increase as the 425, 587, 606, 636v or 828 Performance Air Cleaners. We know this goes against popular opinion. But the way the air flows AFTER it goes past the filter element is crucial to performance increase. The V-Stacks don't flow quite as well as the Outlaw Air Cleaners in this video. That is not to say the flow poorly, they are a HUGE improvement over stock, but they just don't have as much surface area as the others.
      3. We are in the process of redesigning our V-Stacks. We have a few more tweaks and testing, they should be out soon.

      Both the 636v and 828 will flow more air than the 131 can breathe. The 636v will have a slight edge in performance due to the patent pending design which increases intake velocity due to the Venturi Effect.

      Harley is a public corporation that answers to their shareholders. They also have to build to meet EPA and CARB requirements. Since the vast majority of their Customers don't ride more than 3500 miles a year, they build what will meet their Customers needs, meet government standards, and give the most profit to their shareholders.
      Contrast that with DK. We build for folks that ride a lot. So we build parts that have a lifetime warranty, parts that will make the bike run stronger, safer, longer, handle better and be more comfortable.
      We answer only to our Customers, because they are who pay us.
