  • Native American Olympian Henry Boucha won a silver medal in 1972, played in the NHL for the Detroit Redwings and while playing for the Minnesota North Stars suffered an eye injury that ultimately took him out of the game in 1977. Boucha, who is a U.S. Hockey Hall of Famer, has recently published his autobiography "Henry Boucha, Ojibwa: Native American Olympian." He talks to Common Ground about the triumph's and tragedy's of his life and tells the story of his struggle to connect with his Indian heritage.

    As a youngster in SLP MN...Henry was my hero. Now I'm older... Henry is still there and in every respect...a great American

    A huge fan favorite with the Red Wings during the desperate years of the early 70's. Henry had recently played on the '72 Olympics and won the Silver Medal in Ice Hockey. He wore a headband that inspired the Motown crowds. I attended one of his hockey camps and he was a strict teacher, Great memories.
