- This is by request. It was fun looking back at the career of a legend who lasted as many years as Teemu did.

And you didn’t even mention anything about his sportsmanship and how he played the game and treated the community and people around him. The clips of his last NHL appearances just burst with warmth from his peers.
Selanne was one of my favourite players ever. Nice to see him go into the hall.
He had a knee surgery during the lockout wich saved his career and that injury was the reason he didnt succeed in Colorado cause he couldnt skate.
I'm pretty sure Teemu has said that the doctor who operated his knee said how his knee is busted beyond complete repair, and he can give him one more season if everything goes like planned.
@@hermannikorianteri joo,jos muistan oikein nii sehän ei pitäny oikestaa ees pelata sillä polvella
@@hermannikorianteri but but but...i see more than one season after that surgery
Teemu had a knee injury when he played in Colorado. He could hardly skate and that had negative impact on his game. During the lockout season Teemu had a knee surgery and he bounced back scoring two 90 + point seasons in a row and won the stanley cup with the Ducks.
Most points in the Olympic ice-hockey.
Still till today :)
The closeness of Kariya and Selanne is well documented. What is less known is that Peter Forsberg and Selanne are also close. This is well known in Sweden and Finland. They have mutual admiration I suppose and Peter thinks highly of Paul Kariya too.
and Teemu has Swedish flag tattooed in his ankle ;-)
@@imulippo5245 It's very possible a lot of his family was sent to Sweden during war time. My grandmother along with many kids she knew in Finland were sent to Sweden to be adopted just as the war broke out. And rightfully hold very strong positive views of the Swedish people. I owe a lot to that Swedish family who cared dearly for my Grandmother. They treated her like a princess knowing what she was going through.
The history of Kariya and Forsberg goes back to the Olympics in '94 and the epic shootout between Sweden and Canada.
Altough Teemu has never been my favourite player, and I’m a Finn, Teemu certainly is withouth a doubt, one of the classiest guys ever to play the game.
I remember watching the game, the first time the Ducks go to Winnipeg after they'd gotten moved from Atlanta in 2011-12. Even though the Jets won the game 5-3, when they announced the three stars, it was, "The number three star, from the Anaheim Ducks, Teemu Selanne. The number two star, from the Anaheim Ducks, Teemu Selanne. And the number one star from the Anaheim Ducks, Teemu Selanne!"
Teemu's knee was getting bad in San Jose and he skated with one leg in Colorado. Then he got his knee operated during the lockout season and could skate again.
Karyia & Salanne are like Pippen & Jordan
More like Pappen and Jurdan
The last years in Anaheim Teemu lost the top six forward spot on the roster, undeservedly... so which gave him an extra motivation to show to all of us in the Olympics (@Sotchi) that he still should´ve had much more icetime at NHL too...
Even in his 40's he was incredible every time he wore that Finnish jersey
Shame Kariya never got a cup
Kariya wanted to leave in 03, too bad for Paul
He really flourished in Anaheim I’m a Ducks fan so happy Ducks he came but I saw an interview with him and he was really sad. Teemu really loved it in Winnipeg but then he found one of his best line mates and friends Paul Kariya who sadly never won a cup they were a great duo
Plus the all-time leader in Olympic history in points with 1 Silver and 3 Bronze Medals as well!
Really feel bad Kariya and Teemu didn't get to do it together. I recommend you watch the film Sel8anne. Not a bad documentary film at all.
Selanne's career started from my all time favourite team Helsingin Jokerit :D Jari Kurri, Valtteri Filppula, Teuvo Teravainen and Kari Lehtonen too started there just to name a few... Jokerit will have always a special place in the heart of Legendary Finnish Flash
This is for Me / from Me - the 76th comment of Teemu ! 76 Goals to remember on His Rookie Year !
Awesome vid, Shannon. I was a huge Selanne fan. Classy to the core. Hope I get a chance to meet him someday and shake his hand.
He's an awesome guy. I got to serve him once.
Growing up as a Finn in Toronto with a very Finnish last name that was always horribly mispronounced, i always laughed when i heard kids back then say "Timo Salami". My dad's name is Timo so it kinda stuck and i started calling my Dad Timo Salami lol.
Bro your channel is amazing. I’m a budding hockey fan and I have learned more from you than any other source. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for this one, Teemu sure is Teemu :) still the best Teemu moments are from his last olympics, what a King he his!
People of the Comments section. I have a question do you think Kariya is worthy of being a HOF even though he never won a cup? I was fortunate enough to meet Selanne and get his autograph. I was at a Panthers vs Ducks game in Florida and I wore a Purple Kariya Mighty Ducks Jersey with 2003 cup finals patch. I was waiting in line to get some food and the man behind said "Paul Kariya ,that guy is awesome" I turn around and it is none other than Selanne. Teemu was wearing a black hoodie and jeans I kid you not. My face lit up when I saw him and I didn't believe it was him. Anyway I love Kariya and Selanne both deserve to be Hall of Famers.
Kariya is definitely HOF caliber. Stanley Cup is a team trophy, one player cannot win it, no matter how good he is.
Thanks for sharing ! You were on line before Selanne !
that's crazy but I believe you!! Kariya went to Maine. I was already keeping an eye on him then
The reason for the horrible year in Colorado was his knee.
After that came the lockout year and he had a big surgery on it.
He didn't play anywhere for the whole year and was able to come back and score 90 points.
It wasn't about Colorado vs Anaheim but having a major surgery and taking a year off.
He's my favorite player of all time and that '07 Ducks squad was stacked!
Selanne was my fave player when he first came in w/Winnipeg!
After He broke Bossys Record - He surely was Quite HOT - even at Winnipeg ?
I really like your channel. Greetings from finland
ONE OF MY IDOLS
The Anaheim years with Kariya and Rucchin are the sole reason I got into hockey.
Those playoffs games with Giguere in 03 were magical. Some of the best goaltending I've ever seen
Was it really five years since you were at 22000 subs? You've come along way and it's been fun watching your channel grow.
I saw him today at air Canada Centre legends game
Can you make a video discussing the best player of all time by franchise? Like that book has Selanne for the Ducks
Miikka?! You missed him sir. We request a video about him :) And Arthur Dayne pls, would love to see your analytic skills put to the test on that topic.
I remember going into that 03-04 year I thought they should just cancel the season and give the cup to Colorado. Forsberg, Sakic, Kariya, Selanne, Hejduk, Tanguay, Blake, Foote, Morris. That team was stacked despite Patty Roy retiring just before.
I figured with a line of Teemu-Forsberg-Kariya you'd probably get 50 goals from both Kariya and Selanne and Forsberg could probably have about 130 pts with North of 100 assists. Even if Forsberg went down to injury you'd still have one of the all time best in Sakic centering them. I remember being utterly confused with the results of their season, especially Selanne's 32 points. It didn't make any sense to me.
The 03-04 Colorado was so insane, their season premiere was broadcasted live on swedish national television. I still remember that game. 5 - 0 victory they looked absolutely unstoppable
Prime Selänne-Sakic-Kariya everyone would have 50+100=150 points ;)
You probably should do a video on the Jokerit at some point since their history is a rather interesting one.
Selanne was my favourite player as a teen. HATED the Ducks and was so pissed when he got traded (as was he initially, he LOVED living in Winnipeg and was loyal to the Jets). Rumours at the time was that he was only traded because the Winnipeg front office thought Arizona wasn't going to last a full season and thought Teemu deserved to be somewhere that wouldn't fold (Anaheim were new and popular due to the movies). Still can't stand seeing him in a Ducks jersey. When they beat Ottawa in 2007 I was mad that Ottawa lost, but very happy for Teemu. I guess it's my "vancouver vs boston" moment. (I had switched to Ottawa, rather than follow Jets to Arizona)
Really cool video!
Teemu
Got my THG tshirt! Love the logo on the front.
Very cool!
People need to understand that the year in Colorado was a bust because Teemu's knee was busted. It got fixed when lockout happened and oops lol ..low and behold. Points.
Good video! He kind of isn't appreciated as he should. He was a remarkable player. Greetings from Finland!
Always been proud of my Finnish half side.
Which side ? We have brains ( two ) - The European and American side ! Which side is The NHL ?
Selanne is the greatest finnish player of all time.No one gets close. How ever 15 years from now barkov will propably be not only the best finnish player of all time but very likely be remembered as the best defensive forward the game has ever seen.I truly think he will surpass datsyuk as the greatest 2 way forward of his generation, maybe the best 2 way forward to ever play the game.
I agree that Selanne is the greatest but Kurri gets close. 1398 points in 1251 games, that's amazing. I also agree that Barkov has a chance to match Selanne's career, but it won't be easy. Teemu's best years were insane... he was so dynamic.
Selanne was horribly injured, he got his knees rebuilt after avalanche ?
Can you make a video about Paul Kariya too, please?
He's a great man.
Paul Kariya - I Wonder Why He moved to Maine to play hockey ? I Never heard of other Maine NHL Players !
The ducks did sign for the beginning of the 1999-2000 season, they signed German Titov
Yeah yeah good player whatever, can we address the size of the chairs in the arena from that thumbnail? I did not know it used to be comfortable in those arenas 🤯
The Finnish Flash
Jeremy Roenick needs to be in the hall
he would've had 1700 points if he didn't miss so many games
no volume in the video?
Colorados coach didnt like Teemu, Teemu has said that even tho he had in 3rd line couple 2 points games in a row, he would still drop to 4th line
Who was the coach ?
@@holoholopainen1627 Tony Granato
@@TheBrownPandaOO No wonder Nobody Remembers - TEEMU on Colorado Jersey !
Rip Ruslan salei killed in the 2011 yaroslavl lokomotiv plane crash
You are first north american who can pronounce Teemu correctly. Nobody can pronounce Selänne.

16:11 eventhough was older and slower.... not really he had his wheels back after the lockout cos of knee surgery.
also would've been cool if you would have mentioned something about his play in international tournaments
dude was/is like the 1 point guy in olympics history also awarded mvpof the tournament in his last olympic games ....which is insane if you think how old he was!
The Ducks made the second round of 1996-1997 season by defeating Phoenix in game 7.
But got the broom by Detroit later.
If Selanne had stayed in Winnipeg do they still move to Phoenix/Arizona?
Yes, but Selanne would simply have moved with them.
Move was already set by the time he was traded.
One Day Arizona / hockey Will Thank both Winnipeg & Selänne / for The JETS moving There ! Many in Winnipeg were really sad / that their ways separated ?
I remember at the time when the trade took place, the reason given was that since the franchise was moving to an American city, team management decided to build more around their American stars (Keith Tkachuk) than their European stars (Selanne and Zhamnov).
Finnish flash!
Salami! Yummy
Did he have his knee surgery before the lockout?
Yes, and surgeon said that knee would last maximum three years professional hockey after surgery. Luckily he was wrong.
TrustYourOwnInstinct Yep. The significance of the lockout should definitely be mentioned when it comes to Teemu's career. Regained one of his big weapons, i.e. speed (and probably all in all the joy of playing with a healthy body and at full potential).
I'm sure this Winnipeg Jets team will have learned a lesson from the former Jets organization with giving up Teemu, and make sure they keep Laine for a long time.
Oops
@@Nathanielhiggerson66 Then again... Laine isn't Teemu Selanne. Work ethic isn't there.
How Many Finland born Players - Have Won The Calder ? Just asking !
Just one
@@NordicDartfrog Thanks - No ! There are several - and even more with Finnish ROOTS ! I am waiting... for some more answers !
Rantanen
I am still waiting ? IS There ANYBODY - WHO knows Them ALL ? Must Be a List somewhere ?
Teemu was 2nd - to Win The Calder !
next Anaheim needs to retire #9 then 27 and 35!
Are you a time traveler
I though it was pronounced tee-moo not tay-moo
Jordan Subban it's pronounced both! Surprise!
It's actually only pronounced Tay-moo in Finnish. Tee-moo is technically a mispronunciation.

Who votes "👎" ? 😈
His legacy was ruined for me when I saw the clip of him playing golf with Tr*mp, sucking up to him telling him what an awesome golfer he is.
