Teemu had a knee injury when he played in Colorado. He could hardly skate and that had negative impact on his game. During the lockout season Teemu had a knee surgery and he bounced back scoring two 90 + point seasons in a row and won the stanley cup with the Ducks.

The closeness of Kariya and Selanne is well documented. What is less known is that Peter Forsberg and Selanne are also close. This is well known in Sweden and Finland. They have mutual admiration I suppose and Peter thinks highly of Paul Kariya too.

@@imulippo5245 It's very possible a lot of his family was sent to Sweden during war time. My grandmother along with many kids she knew in Finland were sent to Sweden to be adopted just as the war broke out. And rightfully hold very strong positive views of the Swedish people. I owe a lot to that Swedish family who cared dearly for my Grandmother. They treated her like a princess knowing what she was going through.

I remember watching the game, the first time the Ducks go to Winnipeg after they'd gotten moved from Atlanta in 2011-12. Even though the Jets won the game 5-3, when they announced the three stars, it was, "The number three star, from the Anaheim Ducks, Teemu Selanne. The number two star, from the Anaheim Ducks, Teemu Selanne. And the number one star from the Anaheim Ducks, Teemu Selanne!"

People of the Comments section. I have a question do you think Kariya is worthy of being a HOF even though he never won a cup? I was fortunate enough to meet Selanne and get his autograph. I was at a Panthers vs Ducks game in Florida and I wore a Purple Kariya Mighty Ducks Jersey with 2003 cup finals patch. I was waiting in line to get some food and the man behind said "Paul Kariya ,that guy is awesome" I turn around and it is none other than Selanne. Teemu was wearing a black hoodie and jeans I kid you not. My face lit up when I saw him and I didn't believe it was him. Anyway I love Kariya and Selanne both deserve to be Hall of Famers.

The reason for the horrible year in Colorado was his knee.
After that came the lockout year and he had a big surgery on it.
He didn't play anywhere for the whole year and was able to come back and score 90 points.
It wasn't about Colorado vs Anaheim but having a major surgery and taking a year off.

I remember going into that 03-04 year I thought they should just cancel the season and give the cup to Colorado. Forsberg, Sakic, Kariya, Selanne, Hejduk, Tanguay, Blake, Foote, Morris. That team was stacked despite Patty Roy retiring just before.
I figured with a line of Teemu-Forsberg-Kariya you'd probably get 50 goals from both Kariya and Selanne and Forsberg could probably have about 130 pts with North of 100 assists. Even if Forsberg went down to injury you'd still have one of the all time best in Sakic centering them. I remember being utterly confused with the results of their season, especially Selanne's 32 points. It didn't make any sense to me.

Selanne was my favourite player as a teen. HATED the Ducks and was so pissed when he got traded (as was he initially, he LOVED living in Winnipeg and was loyal to the Jets). Rumours at the time was that he was only traded because the Winnipeg front office thought Arizona wasn't going to last a full season and thought Teemu deserved to be somewhere that wouldn't fold (Anaheim were new and popular due to the movies). Still can't stand seeing him in a Ducks jersey. When they beat Ottawa in 2007 I was mad that Ottawa lost, but very happy for Teemu. I guess it's my "vancouver vs boston" moment. (I had switched to Ottawa, rather than follow Jets to Arizona)
