Crossing Continents: From Houston, TEXAS to Ghana is an inspiring journey of unity.
In this video, Mayor Turner discusses the journey to Ghana, accompanied by a dedicated 30-member delegation, which exemplifies the power of diplomacy, his legacy of promoting unity, cultural exchange, and community building.. This video is a must-watch for anyone interested in African diaspora transformation.
Mayor Turner's vision and determination brought this invitation to fruition. In his interview with Dentaa on the ODANA NETWORK platform, Mayor Turner talks about his experience traveling to Ghana and the many lessons, unity, and business opportunities.
Embarking on a journey that transcends borders and connects hearts, the charismatic Mayor Sylvester Turner led a remarkable delegation of 30 individuals on an odyssey that intertwined history, culture, and diplomacy. Their destination was Ghana, a land steeped in rich heritage and profound significance.
As they stepped onto Ghanaian soil, a warm embrace awaited them from the members of the GUBA Diaspora Network. The connection was immediate, a testament to the power of unity across oceans. The airport's atmosphere buzzed with excitement, as the GUBA team and esteemed government officials converged to extend their warmest hospitality.
After a well-deserved respite, a magical evening unfolded, hosted by none other than The McDan Group's visionary CEO, Daniel Mckoley, at his residence. Underneath the stars, amidst the twinkle of city lights, a private business dinner reception forged bonds and opened doors. It was a night when ideas fused with dreams, and aspirations were kindled.
The dawn of a new day brought with it an Accra City Tour, an exploration of both history and humanity. From the vibrant tapestry of Makola Market to the poignant tales whispered by the winds of James Town Fishing & Historical Community, each step resonated with the echoes of lives lived and stories told. A pause at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park & Mausoleum stirred reflection, a reminder of the giants on whose shoulders they stood.
The journey continued, revealing the heart of Ghana's cultural essence at The National Museum & Theatre. Independence/Black Star Square offered a moment of unity frozen in time, while The Arts Centre painted a vivid palette of artistry and craftsmanship. The W.E.B Dubois Centre for Pan African Culture beckoned a testament to the resilience and the unbreakable spirit of unity.
In the embrace of the Central Region, a profound chapter of history unraveled. Assin Manso & Donkor Nsuo, known as The Slave River, stood as a haunting reminder of humanity's darkest days. Along the Cape Coast-Kumasi highway, the echoes of a painful past resonated as they explored a link in the chain that bound generations in sorrow.
Cape Coast Castle stood in stark contrast, its ancient stones whispering tales of resilience and triumph over adversity. A Portuguese 'feitoria' that transformed over centuries, it bore witness to the passage of time and the indomitable strength of the human spirit.
As the sun set on this transformative journey, Mayor Turner and his delegation returned to the luxurious embrace of the Kempinski Hotel. The final evening's crescendo took them to Sky Bar 25, a rooftop sanctuary perched atop Accra's tallest building. Amidst the backdrop of twinkling lights and the city's heartbeat below, they celebrated a journey that transcended time zones, united hearts, and forever etched Ghana's indelible mark in their souls.
This adventure was more than a mere sojourn; it was a pilgrimage of the heart, a voyage of shared memories, and a dance of cultures. Mayor Turner's leadership guided them through the tapestry of Ghana's past, present, and future, and in doing so, wove threads of connection that will endure across continents and generations.
GUBA DIASPORA NETWORK extends our heartfelt gratitude to Mayor Sylvester Turner for his visionary leadership and commitment to fostering international relationships.
We would like to thank the GHANA TOURISM AUTHORITY, MINISTRY OF TOURISM, BEYOND THE RETURN, MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS, MINISTRY OF TRADE, MINISTRY OF ENERGY, MCDAN GROUP OF COMPANIES and HOUSTON, TEXAS Mayor's office.
A project of this magnitude is a collaborative endeavor, and we are immensely thankful for the support and encouragement from our partners and volunteers.
Finally, we would like to acknowledge the viewers, whose engagement with this documentary promotes understanding, unity, and the shared values that connect us all.
Thank you for being a part of this incredible journey."

It is so great to see Houston's Mayor (a leader of America's 4th largest city) lead this delegation to connect with not only our roots but acknowledging West Africa and its countires, as emerging economies with vast wealth and culture. Ghana has always been in the forefront with Africans in the diaspora for decades……even long before the civil rights movement in America. It’s time to move it up a few notches.❤️💪🏽✊🏽 I’m so happy and proud to see this. I never knew the mayor of Houston was like this. The mayor of NY back in the 90s was black and he went to South Africa. Omg! The white people hated him so much. They were against him after that. They complained so bad. They said why is he going there and called him all kinds of “N” He didn’t even try to go to any other country in Africa after that. When they see black people get together they feel threatened and think we are plotting against them. During slavery and very long after they passed laws that black people couldn’t congregate in public…..yaknow like just standing with two or more of us talking….

Many have commented on the mayor of Houston's visit in the capacity of the office he holds. Now while the sentiment is undoubtedly true. When one takes a back seat and appreciates the footage once again, one perceives the honourable mayor's reflections during the course of the entire odesay, one cannot fail to see the mayor, foremost as an individual, an African American, who is soberly reflecting and deeply appreciating the grave sacrifice of his ancestors.
Now in the passage of a proverb, when one's head is on the pillow, one takes time in one's own contemplations, and reflections.. Thus the visit would resonate more deeply if the mayor had spent perhaps a night there in a tourism hotel infrastructure near to the site. I envision a future development of tourism infrastructure which could flank the immediate visinity of the slave dungeon site with a hotel infrastructure and perhaps an ancestral village depicting the dignified life and living experience of the African before their unfortunate and irreversible ordeal as captured slaves whose hope of ever seeing their families or homes were dashed

This was great to watch and I'm hoping that he can bridge the gap and help build relationships between Houston business owners and business owners from Ghana. I'm here for it❤ Forward forever backwards never.

Yes exactly! Imagine if this could be the catalyst for direct flights from Houston to Ghana and if other Black Mayors joined in this movement with all of us. It's all about intentional strategy.

Great visit! Akwaba! I love you all welcome home. The country that
" belongs to women of all race in the world 🌎 "
We [ men ] Don't argue with them. We love ❤️ them, respect them, and keep quiet when they are talking to you as men. You listen to them [ women ] because every word from their mouth are " gem 💎 of wisdom " it can help you as a black man.

WOOOOW!! What a programme!! I've been enthralled from start to finish. Though still experience the rollercoaster of emotions whenever I watch any videos about our enslaved ancestors😢😢. Despite it all, this is an uplifting, collaborative & inspiring session. Because it demonstrates that we cannot forget the past. But we can move past it, devoid of all bitterness, for a better world & a safer tomorrow. Thanks v much Mr Mayor & your entourage.
As usual, Dentaa always affirms her promise. Another banga!!!💪🏾👌🏾👏🏽💃💃😂😂😂 medaase beberee 🤝🏾
