Michael and Bridgette Abtar moved with their two lovely children moved to GHANA because they fell in love with the land and the people when they visited in 2017. They felt the connection between Jamaicans and Ghanaians and knew they were home.
Michael Abtar, LLB (Hons), PGDip.Law, Cert.DPO
Award-Winning CEO, Global Data Privacy & Protection Expert & International Speaker
He has traveled to numerous African countries on business. As a family, they have been to Kenya, Jamaica, St Vincent, and Barbados. Though they have experienced other countries, they felt most at home in Ghana.
A proud husband, father, and CEO of the world-class team at IG-Smart Ltd, which is multi-award-winning UK-based data protection, privacy, governance, and security consultancy with a global presence (serving clients in over 150 countries).
When he is not steering the business or spending time with family, he can generally be found either cooking for friends, trekking through a tropical rainforest, sailing, or playing with their family's two dogs.
Bridgette is a Digital Marketer who uses digital channels to reach customers, build brand awareness, and promote products and services. Because of the unique combination of planning, creativity, and strategy, her role requires her to wear many hats.
She has mastered a wide range of skills and tools in order to stay on top of the ever-growing digital media channels she uses to create, deploy, manage, and track campaigns. Her experiences have trailblazed her to be Homeschooling and educating their children at home instead of sending them to a traditional public or private school.
The Abtar's believe that the three things you need to make it in GHANA is:
    -Patience
    -Humility
    -Finance.
The Best thing about living in GHANA has been:
Just how welcoming the people are. Most Ghanaians you encounter will go out of their way to help you in whatever way they can.

The optics of the children sitting quietly at the dinner table while listening intently as their parents spoke of opportunities in Ghana and other issues was, in my opinion, simply priceless.

As a black American I appreciate seeing stories like this. The continent has always been portrayed in such a negative light so it's refreshing to see these positive stories about Africa. Cannot wait to visit!

OMG that young boy!!! HE IS BRILLIANT! I'm over here in the U.S. carving away at my plan to go to Africa and this just warmed me immensely. Energized me. Brought me to tears seeing how that young child/those young children expressed themselves. What an upstanding video this is. I have been influenced by this video. Thank you Odana Network.

My heart surged with pride when the children first spoke. They are thoughtful and incredibly articulate which is a tribute to the efforts of their parents. I sense that the family is a confident and secure unit and I look forward to hearing more about their success. The Rwanda cleanup effort is transferable, one neighborhood at at time. On our street, we have improved the roadway by banding together as neighbours. We can improve sanitation as well. Let us all make Ghana the place we want it to be neighborhood by neighborhood, instead of complaining about its shortcomings.

Not negative stories for years, but for centuries! It's Africa's time to shine.

Reparations for me would be having the USA send me to Accra and supporting me for the rest of my life. I am over 85 years. I have been retired for 23 years and cannot afford to move out of the USA although I have never felt that I belonged here.

What a strong Father with a perfect family structure. What intelligent children. Well spoken children who are bright and super intelligent is like a black family on show. The home is fabulous and the kids are growing up in a wonderful environment.

It is sad that more western black families are not together as these people are. The children are well disciplined and sat quietly, listened and learned. They are well spoken and very smart. Good job Mom and Dad. Yes, Africa has always been portrayed in a negative way. I have learned so much from young CZcamsrs how people really live. Great interview. I have spent most of my life in Canada and I feel honoured when I go to the Caribbean and my friend's children who are in their thirties plus call me Auntie. No one calls me by my first name. It is either Miss __ or auntie. They respect us and we have to respect them in return. When will the oppression and exploitation end.

Sometimes life isn't about riches or prosperity... it's about living in a space where you don't intrinsically question your existence and always have to prove your worth. Life in the diaspora is fraught with identity crises. Really appreciate the honesty in this conversation!. God bless!
