- The city of Hanau, the birthplace of the brothers Grimm, is not the most beautiful place in Germany. It does, however, have a fascinating history.

Beautiful city. I walked all over Hanau when I was stationed in Germany.
I was station in Hanau and loved everything about the city and Germany. I miss it very much!! The people were so wonderful and friendly!!!
I was stationed in Hanau from 1982-1984. Very nice city. I just wish I took more photos & visited old town Hanau.
thats pretty interesting to hear that about my city where i was born and live currently :)
I miss Germany. My dad was stationed in Gelnhausen 80-83. I went to Hanau American highschool
Lived here as an Army brat in the 1970s, many fond memories of Hanau. You missed out the entire US Army military community (now gone) in your film, otherwise an enjoyable trip down memory lane.
I Loved your video...It brought back many Happy Memories from when i lived there in 1973-83...I grew up there in my teens...My father was in the U.S. Army station at Pioneer Kaserne...I wish you could have taken a ride up that way even though i know the base has closed down...I would like to have seen that area...but very well done...I lived there for 10 years riding my bike everywhere and although i seen many things on your video...I still learned and seen things i never knew about..Thank YOU
My birth place....
Serving in the Army and stationed in Hanau I had the delight of living off post for nearly two years. Even though Hanau had the hustle and bustle of many city's of it's type and population it also had it's wonders opened and hidden. Getting from A to B was a cinch. The buses were always on schedule and the taxis were clean and prompt and the trains service delightful. My stay in Hanau was fun and exciting. I would recommend it as a stop and an extended stay.
I too was stationed there for 5 years and had a wonderful time. I also lived off post. Cool.
Thanks for the video - it was great to see the city again. I grew up in Hanau and learnt quite a few historical facts I'd never known before!
I miss Hanau and my friends that i had there
Its been 15years since i left. I used to live on Nurnburger str #11 top floor so many memories. Best beer in the world 😀
I lived there from 96 to 01.. gallienstrase.
Do you remember 'Cheap Price'?
mindermine wow you where there almost the same time as me. The street doesn’t ring a bell but it’s been a long time. I’ve been all over beautiful Hanau so I know I’ve must have been around your area. Where you in the military?
Max Mustermann Not really but if it was the store that sold kinda everything and it was located at the corner of Nurnberger str. My apartment was on the fourth floor above this store. There was also businesses on the 2nd and 3rd floor and a bar that was underground.
@@dariendeloatch4337 yeah, they have sold articles from China. It was like a big mobile and Electro store
Danke! ♡ Many beautiful memories I have with my family and the military living here in the 90's for nearly 5 years... A great video virtual tour!

So many old GIs find their way here. I was stationed on Fliegerhorst Kaserne twice in the 80s. I have a Facebook page for 3/59 ADAwith lots of photos of that kaserne from then.
@tavin15 Yes, I had time to plan this one. But I know Hanau well, so that made it easier.
Geniales Video und super Musik!

Very interesting!
You really put a lot of thought in this. Did you plan what to film in beforehand?
I love this place
Hey neighbour! You have to make an update about Hanau. The Freiheitsplatz in this form, did no longer exist. There was a lot of construction, since the time you filmed the video. And you should mention, that Hanau is the 6th biggest city of the Hessians. Ahead of likly more well known cities like Giessen, Fulda, or Marburg...
Btw. Do you vote on 12.12 ...?
well done
The legend says that at the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve the two brothers [Grimm] change places. (5:36)
Please revisit!
Prima gemacht. *****
Now Hanau is a beatiful city with a big shopping centre and lots of restaurants, bars and more. It`s fantastic for a day trip :)
I hit two times your videos today with total different goals:
1. German for Idiots = Entertaining
2.(more important) searching for my grandparents, which lived in Hanau til 1950.
Can somebody tell me where is possible to find this film on German?
La visito ogni anno perché ci abita mio zio ed è una città davvero graziosa :)
@von32897 I was there 1990-93 Budingen Armstrong Kazern

all comments here are from the US forces and the clown didn't mention their presence.
That marketplace is much smaller now due to new stores that were recently added. There is a very strange part of Hanau's history that the narrator left out. Back in the war, Hanau actually was not intended as a primary target for the allies. The primary target was supposed to be Frankfort. Allied Night Bombers were told to fly until they saw a light on the ground. The Nazis learned of this and ordered all lights out throughout the city. Only problem is that they didn't bother to tell the people in Hanau. Allied bombers looking for Frankfort flew right over the city until they saw lights on the ground from Hanau, and mistakingly bombed it thinking that it was Frankfort. Hanau was originally intended to be preserved for historical reasons but unfortunately things didn't turn out that way. The Allies bombed the wrong city
Unfortunately this is not true and something of an urban myth among local residents. If you read the operational reports from RAF Bomber Command, Hanau was set as the target for this attack, and the goal was to finish the destruction of "built up areas and associated rail facilities and industries" following a raid three days earlier.
