Thank you so much for sharing!! I find myself in a very similar situation: severe sciatica since May 2021, bulging disc in L4-L5, L5 root veeeeery angry, excruciating pain in my right leg, pins and needles... well, you know the drill. A lot of my researches and readings pointed at people who were back on their feet in a matter of weeks and here I am, 6 months down the line, not pain free, still having onsets of pins and needles, still having very limited spinal flexion, etc. I am obviously not glad for you being in pain, but listening to your story helped me feel less "alone in the world". Thank you again for your candid and honest words, hope you get well soon!

What a positive attitude! I need to learn from you, because last 6months i was very miserable because of this sciatica and back pain. It's getting better I do a lot of stretching and it does help. (I have 7mm bulge at L5 S1). Sciatica every day is different, sometimes I even get days without pain, but it comes back after I do something "wrong". Wish you and for me a full recovery!

Exactly the same experience on the final rep of a final set of 5x15 of 220 deadlifts, In college
Very stiff back after that and had back pain on my left L 5/L6 .
40 years later as a PTA I had a disc rupture and extreme sciatic pain on that same side that lasted for a year even with therapy and high pain medicine.
3 Epidurals but pain still didn't go away and alot of atrophy in the GS because of pain and not walking on it.
My pain came down from 8 with morphine to 2 without meds in two weeks by doing sidebends on a back machine with 10- 20 lb over body weight and bending away from the pain and then letting the machine bring you back upright.
Two months later I was at 0 pain and have been pain free for 12 years .
I also was a Pool therapist and that can decrease the gravity on the disc / nerve area.
As a PTA i had too many patients that had back surgery that didn't improve so I was not having surgery even after the MRI showed that the disc was ruptured .
Which finally convinced the Kaiser Dr's I wasn't making this up.
I got this idea of pumping the disc for healing from a book written by a P.T.
Try the side sitting on a back extension machine: it worked for me when everything else didn't help.
I did 1 set of 50 reps each day and started to feel less pain every two days until it got to 2/10 which was then at a point I could get off the morphine and other pain meds. Have not taken any pain medication for 12 years.

I relate to your story so much. Hurt my back when I was 16 but it recovered to the point where I always had some issues with my
Back. November 2018, I did a deadlift and immediately knew I did something wrong. Excruciating sharp sciatica pain down my leg to my calf and bottom of my
Foot. A year later sharp pain disappeared and annoying burning pins and needles numbness and a feeling of frozen foot has occurred. I have months of doing better and then A flare up. I’ve noticed this is more
Mental than anything. I say this because the symptoms fluctuate based on the events happening in my life.

      Hmmm interesting!
I would apply that approach to my flare ups cuz I think i definitely overthink and overreacting it..

Sorry to hear of your persistent sciatic pain issues. I am also in a similar situation.
Ongoing pain flare ups travelling mainly down the back of my right leg but also weird sensations and numbness with burning in the outer portion of the foot including the last three toes.
I find that sometimes the location and intensity of symptoms change, almost on a daily basis. I’ve even had the odd pins and needles down my left leg. It’s been two and a half years although I am glad the pain has over time lessened and I now don’t have trouble walking due to calf weakness which did make me miserable and interfere with my daily routine quite a lot.
I do find myself wondering if it will ever go away as it seems that anything can aggravate it. I really hope that one day It mysteriously vanishes 😂 Unlike you I haven’t considered surgery or injections. I’m holding out for as long as possible and just hope that it doesn’t get any worse because at the moment it’s tolerable.
Thanks for sharing your story. All the best and get well soon 😃

Thanks. Good to hear that yours is tolerable. Nerve pain is definitely a unique experience and I totally understand what you mean by the daily changes in symptoms. I'll cross my fingers and hope it mysteriously vanishes for both of us one of these days. 🤞

So do the nerves die? Was the surgeon incorrect?

No they grow but very slowly … only if the gap is too wide they tend to spread out and cannot find the connection anymore
