      Ignore those who are critical. I'm new to junk journals and I love it. We can do anything we want. I found a box of old letters that grandmother wrote and received in 1946. I was a little tyke then. Some of the writing is a bit faded or in pencil. An airmail stamp was 8 cents. Tina, how can I use them in my journals? Help!! Thanks . I also have a lot of old lace gifted to me.

    Hi Tina, I love your easy method for making tassels. I’ve only made one and I can’t even remember how I made it. But your way is very easy. Now I’m going to have to make more.
    I agree with you on the whole “junk” journal thing. If you didn’t list your journals as junk journals they wouldn’t be found. I think Debby called it, Jenny is not the boss as to what we call our creations 😊.
    Regarding your video download time, you should do what works for you. I do watch when I’m having my morning tea, so I’ll just watch your latest video. I won’t get it till 9:00 am and I’m done my tea by then and going on with my day. So I’ll just watch it that night or the next morning while have my tea. So again, do what works for you. I think most people would agree that we’ll still watch your videos no matter when you download them. Hugs 🤗

    Lovely tassels. I agree with you about eyelash trim and I think it works beautifully in the tassels but I especially love the little pearl strands.. Happy birthday to your father. This is such a difficult time and I'm not sure if most people realize how hard it is on seniors who are so family oriented. Depression is a very prevalent thing for them. My mom and dad were of the original scrapbook generation. Way back then, scrapbooks were just that: scraps of memorabilia collected and pasted down with photographs. Jump to the late 1900s, all the companies selling papers, rubber stamps, stickers, and borders, were in no-way what I considered a scrapbook. The results of all the accumulation of materials were and still are a marketing ploy to sell products. I love my "JUNK" and will continue to mix new and old combined into a book that has a lovely alliteration, Junk Journal. Semantics--sheesh!

    Love the tassels, Tina! It doesn’t matter to me what time of day people post as I watch videos whenever I have some time. I am in the US so there will always be a time gap anyway. The only time I think it matters to me is if I am looking to buy a specific journal and the artist does the video in the middle of (our) night and immediately posts the book to Etsy. Chances are it will be sold before I see it, but with all of us in many different countries there is no way around this. As to the definition of junk journals, I do think that many of our books should not be labeled as such. Most of the artists that I follow, such as yourself, work in a theme and use beautiful items which are definitely not junk. Though I enjoy watching people who create actual junk journals, which I think is a spin off of slam books, they are not really something I personally create, preferring to work in an integrated vintage theme. On my videos, I generally title them as vintage junk journals to play into the search parameters, but when people ask me about my hobby, I simply say that I create journals. Let’s face it, “junk” journals are a current fad, but “journals” have been kept for centuries. A rose by any other name!

      @shabbydabbydoodah  Před 3 lety +1

      Thank you Sue for your feedback about the timings, great point about when journals go for sale, so hopefully a change in time will work well for most. I love that, you are so right, journals have been kept for centuries, so describing as just creating journals is perfect x

    I just saw someone else tonight use waxed twine/cord/thread and when you tie that knot then it stays in place. She was also able to thread some beads on that as well. That may make it a lot less fiddly. I have some because I use it to sew my signatures in my journals and i think that’s a brilliant idea. Hope that helps you❤

You should upload whatever time is good for you we are here regardless ☺️ the terminology thing..I do understand what she is saying but everyone does use the same term. Happy Birthday to Daddy!!! I hope you all had a very nice evening! Very lovely tassels! the reason I got in to making Journals
    (2012) is I was going on a trip and my art pad of paper fell apart. so I fixed it. ( I just had to reach up and look at it sniff sniff) its full of all kinds of ideas painting doodling quotes and much more. travel worn and loved! and yes I have so many others and they all are full of "junk" my junk that I collect on my travels any thing we make, write, draw, paint or doodle is part of who we are it tells our story. I think the word Junk is miss used may be recycled or up cycled is a better way to call our Mixed Media Journals. one of my latest creations is from Crown Royal whisky bottle bags. I took them apart and sewed them back together and have a beautiful purple quilted cover. And made a nice 4 signature Journal. I love it. an other example of a junk journal is I use paper bags and the paper packaging to make sewn in pages for the grand kids and they love there little books! Now when I sell my books/ journals/ mixed media journals. I use all kinds of paper new, old, died or not, scrap book paper excreta. my point is my favorite Quote: Start where you are. I saw that video as well. I took it with a grain of salt and moved on. I think our journals are a mix of new, vintage, junk, hand me downs and "oh I found this stuck to my shoe, I could use that". We make them in a "junky" style I guess we could say. Your tassels are beautiful! Can't wait to see how you use them!

    And, before I was a junk journaler, I made jewelry. I like to add bits & bobs, from my jewelry stash, to my tassels. Charms are fun to dangle in them too.

    Playing catch up. I think the timing now is great. You catch the American's on in the evening and we get you when we get up. We are still doing junk journals because we are saving things from going to the tip. Old books, cereal packets for inside our journal covers, loo roll inserts for jj cards, pockets etc., old clothes, old curtains especially lace ones, it's just more vintage and not the junk mail part of it unless you are Linda Israel and use it for gelli printing on. I love how jj has evolved to todays. have a lovely Monday Tina. Still raining up here. love and hugs xxxx

    Journals have changed and evolved with everyone’s different ideas. As long as you are enjoying what you do and make who really cares what it is called. I see you point about calling then junk journals so they can be found by people like me. There had been lots of interesting discussions around this subject that’s for sure, I think it is good that people are talking about j j. Please tell your father Happy Birthday. I saw that jenibellie video too....while I agree that her definitions had merit, and I see her point, really those definitions were more related to the origins of these different journal types, in my opinion. It’s all evolved into kind of the same thing, all these journals, scrapbooks, smash books, glue books, travelers notebooks, art journals, etc. now use a mix of junk, decorative papers, stamps, photos, images, text, paint, ephemera, fabric, and just about anything you want. I mean, if you want to get super technical, you shouldn’t call it a journal if you don’t do a substantial amount of writing in it.
    I think it’s fine to call it whatever you like where you hope people can find it. Here on CZcams, we viewers can see what it is you’ve made, so we can decide if that is what we wanted to see. So anyway, I guess I’m just saying I don’t think people should too caught up in what they call it. I think the main takeaway from her video is that you don’t have to go out and buy a bunch of supplies to do any of these journals if you don’t want to. I think you’re good at pointing this out in many of your videos also. 😃

    • @shabbydabbydoodah
      @shabbydabbydoodah  Před 3 lety +3

      What fantastic points you made. I agree that the original journal idea has now evolved and the all have begun to overlap and merge in together. Some junk journals are much more "Art" journal, some are more "Glue books" etc, I guess I just felt I had to mention it in case anyone thought I was misrepresenting. I absolutely think you don't need to buy a ton of supplies, a little goes a long way in this craft x

    I saw this Jenny video listed and knew I did not want anything to do with it. My husband throws the junk away at the post office. I use coffee dyed papers and scrapbooking papers and print out digitals to make journals with. I am not going to be so strict about defining whether it meets a certain idea of what it needs to be, it is art and one person does it the way they do to express themselves. Nitpicking is not fun and I like to see the way another person has done things , everyone is different and sees art differently. So I have given myself permission to be me. I love the way you do things and your art is beautiful. So please let it flow and enjoy it! Hugs Lady.
