- Amidst the possible sale of its parent company, Paramount Global, the Showtime standalone app will be shutting down on April 30th. Now it will exist solely as a brand within the "Paramount+ with Showtime" plan within the Paramount+ app and its associated channel.

All these media companies (Disney, Paramount , Warner Bros. Discovery, Comcast Universal, etc.) and their shenanigans with brand changes, forced subscriptions, forced ads, taking away digital content that was bought and paid for, and increased DRM and media control are why I am gradually heading towards buying my own media and use library-based subscriptions. For mainstream shows, here is a nice saying: "If buying isn't owning, then piracy isn't stealing."
Kind of sad. I have fond memories of watching movies on Showtime as far back as the early 80s on my backyard dish (when everything was free and in the clear). Even after scrambling, I always kept Showtime through the 90s because it was a great movie channel. My interest waned as they moved more toward original programming (although some of it was very good), but it's still a brand that means something to us older folks.
Agreed- I remember going to Blockbuster and checking out some of their original shows on DVD as a teen. I felt like I was in the know because I wasn’t just watching network TV shows. I’ll miss it.
I loved a lot of movies and TV on Showtime, but I think they finally lost it when they lost their big money maker 'Shameless'... I know people who pay for Showtime just for things like shameless or Dexter or weeds, one of the really good shows & they have some good original content
This is the app, not the channel.
@@Lxnar_144 It's the app that's shutting down immediately, but if you watched the video you know that there's a good chance the Showtime brand will likely be eliminated completely. It's already been renamed "Paramount Plus with Showtime," even if you're watching it on cable. So "Showtime" already no longer exists.
I just recalled, our household shut down cable in 2014. We figured we would really miss it, but 10 years without a bill! I've not seen cable once since then.
My family goes so far back with the Showtime brand that I remember watching original run Faerie Tale Theatre on the channel. At least, it will survive in some form within Paramount+ and various brand name streaming platforms. I think a current dirty little secret about Showtime is that it is arguably the most vibrant portion of the Paramount+ app.
Yeah it definitely attracts a different crowd than CBS/Yellowstone/NCIS/etc. There's things on Paramount+ that I think a lot of people wouldn't realize are there as a result of Showtime.
@@ShallIStreamIt that’s a great way to put it.
Bundles are now common. MGM+ and Starz are now a thing and Paramount snd Showtime are a single service. Who needs Cinemax in a world of Max?
Showtime is not shutting down. It is going to be a part of Paramount+. Which is a much better deal than it was when Showtime was a separate app.
I came very close to dropping Paramount Plus some months back, hated all the ads and I already got CBS shows over the air. Then they announced Showtime with the ad free option and it is now my favorite streaming service. Plus you get a discount if you pay annually. 😊
Showtime often has great movies that I just stumbled upon that might have been overlooked or independent ! So, I hope I don't have to lose that😢
Still on Paramount+ for now!
Showtime is blended with Paramount Plus.
Note: This is the Showtime APP. The Channel is unaffected.
I like that there will be fewer apps and passwords to deal with.
Come on Sony jump in on the fun and scoop up Paramount. A lot of good ip between the two companies that Sony can expand upon on Paramount plus.
No, They’ll break it up
Do we know where and when the new season of Yellowjackets will air now, ??? That's the best! And I know they're back to filming in Canada now. Thanks 😊

@@rss8363 I'm talking the bonus episode that's supposed to be between 2 and 3 season have Jason Ritter in it
Other than its existence, I don't think anything has officially been confirmed. But I believe it was rumored at one point to be a Christmas-themed episode so maybe around the holidays?
cable tv replacement optimum cable ???
hope cable comes out with alternate
I've got a playlist of videos about live TV services to replace cable here: czcams.com/play/PLH6D14ephVlUTjbbpXMdyTD2FMqZ9akIs.html
I feel it wil go like HBO where the cable channel will still have the showtime name on it but the on demand name will be changed to paramount+ but will still be only the showtime channel content like HBO did going from simply being HBO on demand to being HBO max on demand to max on demand on cable but it’s still just the hbo content and movies
It's already been rebranded as Paramount+ with Showtime on cable. Showtime as any standalone service no longer exists.
I’m predicting at some point Max will make you pay extra to get the HBO stuff and bring back the “HBO Max” name.
@@ShallIStreamItAt this point I doubt they'll change their name back
I think the service will still be called "Max" but I think the premium tier will be called "HBO Max."
Showtime is still on TV frr?
The standalone app is shutting down. The channel is still on TV but it's rebranded to Paramount+ with Showtime and also has Paramount+ shows.
calling it "confusing" is silly. It's combining into one thing. What's "confusing" about that? I like having one less App to have to deal with.
How did paramount loss rights to star trek the motion picture through nemesis to MAX and are unable get it back and they seem not to want get them back. Week ago max tried bypass paramount and rob them Star trek revival by J.J. Abrams made by more money and viewers for his content is now danger being lost what take on this.
Basically from my understanding, there's a calculation the studios go through to either 1) keep their own content on their own service in the hope that it gets people to sign up or 2) license it out to other companies. Option #2 gets them cash guaranteed. Option #1 only works if a whole bunch of people sign up for their service and right now Paramount+ is losing money. So by licensing it out to Max they are making more than they would to keep it on Paramount+.
showtime has zero woke movies and series
ok.
