Alberta is calling? Flood of new residents spark affordability concerns

- Alberta's government has launched the next phase of its 'Alberta is Calling' program in B.C, Ontario and Quebec.
It is aimed at enticing workers in the skilled trades to make the move to Wild Rose Country, with a $5,000 tax credit as a sweetener.
But as Heather Yourex-West explains, the province already has a flood of new residents, and all that migration is making life less affordable in Alberta.

What's say we lay off the immigration policy until we get the country back under control, both fiscally and culturally. Is that too much to ask?
Trudeau thinks that's too much to ask. The well being of Canadians is not high on his agenda. We are the eggs he's breaking to make his "new Canada" omelet.
Well, considering we need to build homes across the country and the paler portion of the population can't seem to figure out how a hammer works.... 🤷♂️🤣
Or Alberta can stop telling everyone “come to Alberta”.
What exactly do you mean by Culturally mate? So far the only culture I can find in Alberta is horse fetishes and an obsession with a dwindling non renewable resource.
Let’s be real it’s not if the prairies have much to offer but space
Move to Russia Ricky. Lot's of housing now that so many young people have fled or become fertilizer in Ukraine. Putin could use some people.
Where’s my tax credit for being a trade already here?
leave
@@london229 soon
We don't count.
Alberta needs to stop advertising to come to Alberta else it will become another Ontario or BC. Canada needs to stop immigration for a while else it will become hell on earth
That's the point 😅
That's right. Looking for a job right now in Calgary is brutal because there are hundreds of applicants for a position. The unemployment rate is almost 8% and Danielle keeps inviting everyone to move here.
As a Calgary resident, please stop coming. Our schools are 35+ in middle school classes and over 28 in elementary classes, there are no family doctors and wait times are over 14 hours. Our unemployment rate is higher than the rest of the country.
ill be there soon
No mention of mass immigration from other countries. Which is the driving factor.
This is state funded media, what do you expect. Can't contradict their narrative
It would take a lot more than $5000 to lure me to live in that place.
you have to work for that 5000. Thats like half a year of full time work for most
If you dont work you dont get a tax credit
@@alexg9727lol yea that’s false. No one make ten thousand a year working full time
That's good. Stay where you are. Alberta doesn't need another left-winger.
@@-FreeAlberta- lol alberta the laughingstock of Canada
$5,000 tax credit….how enticing
So basically Detached in Alberta === Semi Detached / Freehold Townhouse in Ontario. In other words, Alberta has fallen. Its time for Atlantic Canada now.
Good luck with that.
I moved to Alberta 15 years ago & it was the best decision I’ve ever made. I have a life that I could never have afforded if I stayed in Ontario.
I am moving to Alberta from Ontario not because of affordability but because the amount of government corruption in Ontario and Canada.
Danielle Smith is a true leader in Alberta.
Wow, a politician groupie - good luck with that.
Give it time. They are all the same.
Smart move. But don’t just do it for a politician. You should have more reasons than that. But I wish you luck. I did the same thing 15 years ago.
I don't think I could live in any province that wasn't conservative.
Most left-wing governments are corrupt and don't bat an eye when they want to increase your taxes. BC is a nice place to visit. But you better take out a 2nd mortgage if you want to vacation there.
Same.
Why were those people wearing gloves on a pipe threader? I just started plumbing and they told us never to do that
Alberta's population rises sharply during oil booms and declines slightly during oil busts. The province has been able to welcome more people every year while remaining a relatively affordable place to live for decades.
Haha, I was part of the 2022 statistic from BC...after 1 year, my wife and I realized Canada was really the problem, not just individual provinces.
Same here, Canada is a land of privileged old capitals, we are the pawns that get used in the chess board. By the way, Calgary's weather sucks, I'd rather go back to rainy BC
Meh... the more of you that leave make it proportionally better for the rest of us that actually love and appreciate this country....

Calgary gets more sunshine than any other part of Canada. 😎
Where did you move to?
after 10 more years, Edmonton, then Halifax will be the next destination for those who being driven out by sky rocketing cost of living
Maybe Texas will ship them to you for a $$ of course.
Would've been nice when I was in trade school 6 years ago and no one was hiring. :(
Go home immigrants. Go home
Canada is fv
This is happening in all provinces outside of the Ontario toilet. Soon enough these places become unaffordable too.
trudeau says there's room for 1 milliion immigrants from india.
Alberta is calling…
SEND INDIA BACK!
Yes. And the rest of the world.
Says who??
No crap... common sense is not common no more
There’s not a lot in the CPC anyway.
Who mentioned them?@@patricktruelove464
@@patricktruelove464 Right, because the LPC and NDP are the shining example of common sense in the first place. Parties of Hypocrites.
Don’t worry mate; I don’t plan on moving to a doomed province anytime soon.
All you have is wannabe cowboys and people obsessed with a dwindling non renewable resource. Alberta has also become Quebec 2.0 when discussing secession from the Federal government; without actually understanding how screwed Alberta would be if it actually succeeded.
I’m doing just fine where I am lol
Yes, Alberta is definitely not for weak liberals. Oil will continue to drive the world for a long time so Alberta will be just fine.
Actually, Alberta's two largest cities are turning Punjabi.
all of Canada is@@-FreeAlberta-
It's not that I don't love living in Ontario, but I do imagine living in other parts of the country. Sometimes I wonder what it might be like to live in Victoria, Surrey, Vancouver, Montreal or somewhere in the east coast. But nothing about Alberta is appealing right now. Sure Banff and Jasper are beautiful, but their politics are a mess. The rednecks think that the KKK will rise again. No thank you.
They should replace the maple leaf on the flag with a turd.
Or Alfred E Newman

People commenting in the comments as though it'll make a difference.
I think the UCP got in over their heads on this. This is driving up housing costs and it will keep wages lower.
We have our own younger population who can't find work now because someone from Ontario took the job.
They come for the milk and honey, and they'll probably vote NDP.
lol na it’s because smarter people are taking the jobs. Don’t be so upset
Thats not true. Theres work out there for those who want to " work". Many of the younger population want a 9 to 5 and weekends off. They dont want to go out of town or get their hands dirty. Of course someone else will take the job.
An employer doesnt care where they're from, as long as they're ready to actually WORK.

You can move to Alberta but NO WOKE people. Luckily most trades do not attract the woke. Wokies can stay in Ontario and vote for Trudeau.
