      I think Worf's time on the Enterprise has taught him a lot about restraint and that most of Klingon "honor" killing is senseless killing. I highly doubt that this "evolved" klingon would kill anyone for making that joke, understanding that Discretion IS the better part of Valor..of course he would be upset, but kill?...no.

    I really like how Jonathan Frakes delivers the line "you look good in a dress". On paper it looks like Riker's teasing Worf (and he might be, a little), but Frakes plays that line like Riker is simply giving Worf a straight up compliment. That he seems to look at Worf's ass just before saying it is just the cherry on top.

      It was absolutely a tease, meant to defuse the comment he made just before it, a comment that was correct but that most viewers would find very difficult to swallow. The tease undercuts the previous comment because it's made from the same perspective that informs Worf's objection; the fact that Riker teased Worf about wearing a dress tells us that at least some part of Riker agrees with Worf and finds the idea of wearing a dresslike garment to be unmanly.
      We could conclude that Riker merely knows how to tease people from their perspective, and I'm sure he does, but Riker is the manly man of the humans, and the show always gives him a few lines here and there so that viewers can feel his boner bumping against them in the turbolift.

    • @darrenspain9408
      @darrenspain9408 Před 7 lety +8

      My fave part is the few seconds Worf looks in the mirror like "OMG he thinks I'm beautiful!" before hastily snapping back to Klingon mode. All the casual flirting Riker actually does at Worf, and how crush-smacked Worf is sometimes around him, it's just upsetting, the show's era wouldn''t have allowed anything else to happen in the show at all.
      Worf has a massive amount of respect for Riker, as a warrior even, and respects his strength. Remember when Worf let Will into his holodeck calisthenics exercise program? That was an incredibly *personal* thing for him to do, and he doesn't do that with anyone -- with the exception of K'ehleyr! And not to mention Will taking a lot of personal effort to learn about and understand Klingon culture and customs... gosh, there's too much. Riker/Worf forever!

    Re: How "stupid" the dress uniforms looked -- I didn't mind it as much as some, though they were originally much longer (down to the knee), had gold piping along the closure, and were worn with black leggings. After William Ware Theiss departed as costume designer (he also worked on the original series), Robert Blackman admits that he was constantly tinkering with this design before throwing it out entirely in the movie "Insurrection". It got progressively shorter and was worn with the same pants as the regular uniform instead of leggings (similar to the original series dress uniforms).

      Personally I think it was perfected in the DS9 episode "You Are Cordially Invited". The jacket is shortened to a similar length as the Wrath Of Khan uniform jacket, and it's given a similar belt, and the shoulder is the somewhat longer version with the vertical pleating like the First Contact uniforms, but still black rather than grey. I think that was perfection, and way better than the Insurrection dinner jacket.
