- Yep, I found a super cheap, and super rare 1999 Ford Taurus SHO with the V8 and Manheim / Ready Logistics lost it for a month. Now that it's here it doesn't run at all. Can we fix it and race it against my twin turbo Police Taurus SHO?

One for the money two for the sho😂
Epic!

@romkaproductions Oh you old salt you 😂
Or, from Peter Frampton's song: "Oh, won't you SHO me the way, yeah
I want you to SHO me the way"
You have God's Hands. I do the same thing when I get to a customer and their car don't start and I get in the car and it starts for me. I'm a tow truck operator for Gbs Towing here in Hampton VA
The 99 you have to run it with premium fuel, so maybe do another
test run with fresh premium fuel and service the transmission/filter
and i think you might be surprised.
Shame on whoever had a v8 SHO, walked into a tire shop, and said “I’ll take a set of your finest Sailuns”
Who cares!! You don't own a 3.4L V8 3rd gen SHO and say you have a SHO. LoL!! You say you have a "96-99 SHO" so that people know it isn't a *REAL* SHO. It was a poor performing car. No room to work on it. This essentially was a prototype that made it to production. It was poorly tuned. Hence why it still used an Aisin 4-speed automatic. LoL!! It only had 15 HP more than the 3.0L V6 Yamaha block used in the 1st and 2nd gen SHO. But those gens came with 5-speed manual transmissions.
So putting cheap tires on it, makes sense. It is known to be the absolute *WORST* Taurus model ever made. Water pump problems, transmission problems (as Aisin is a terrible trans), the squat stance from garbage rear strut and coil spring engineering. You had to retro fit the 1992-1995 Taurus struts and springs into the 96-99. What a horrible car.
1 cerveza & a set of your finest Sailuns for my SHO porfavor 😂🤣 lol .
@@just4kicks950*Tequila. 😁
@@makpsv lol
Better than Ling Longs from China 🇨🇳.
That engine looks like a work of art you can tell that thing has never been mistreated. It will run better after you get the cobwebs ran out of her.
Here in NC they have trackers like Transponders so the customer can track the vehicles they buy when shipped, it’s crazy it took this long and is UNACCEPTABLE, glad you finally got it
I absolutely love the Taurus in general! Especially this generation body style as my Dad had a 96 also in same silver metallic when I was a kid. Was a great car, which I later learned to drive in and became my car after highschool. To see this style again brings me back to good times 👍 I currently own the son of this car a 2010 Ford Fusion SPORT which is basically comparable to this style SHO in many ways! This car was also bought brand new by my Dad and its also silver metallic.
Cool
My late father had two of the Ford Taurus, a 1989 and a 1993 model. They were nice cars.
Glad you were able to get it back. I recommend getting the camshafts fixed on it.
You hit the jackpot with that SHO.
In 1999 I would have been...never mind 😄😆
You sure seem to have a lot of luck finding these diamonds in the ruff Randy, love it. 😎👌👍
Ford definitely put in the effort to make this car special like the last one. Only thing missing is a manual transmission, oh and an engine without a catastrophic failure point.
Glad to see you got the car 👍🏻
That was probally the first time Jelly Roll has been played in a 1999 Ford Tauras SHO lol
I've always loved these V8 SHOs. If this runs right you stole this Randy.
Super nice rare car Randy! Theres a 2014 Ford Exporer Police Interceptor sitting at copart right now fyi :)
If you want the 99 towards faster just add the two turbos from a 3.5 V6 under that 3.4 and it will probably beat it LOL
It’s definitely clean.
I noticed that the speedometer was bouncing around while it was idling. Hopefully it’s just because of the battery.
I know a two people who owned these cars and have riden in them. This car kind of stood in it own way in the Ford line up at the time. You could get a great Mustang or Crown Vic for less or simliar money. The first gen Taurus will always have a place in my heart, especially the wagons.
The Nascar nose cone of this era was so awesome. And how awesome was Nascar back then too.
The Impala is opening the trunk to say "please clean me out".
I'm glad it came,I can tell you were up set about it, I can't wait to here more about it and see how it performs 😊❤
Randy you are so lucky with cars you got the golden touch. Love your channel keep er going.
The Yamaha engines in the SHO's were a work of art to look at...
You may have a lot of cars, but this one is a rare one, this one is 100% a keeper!
I had a Taurus ,96, loved it and I'm with you I so wanted a SHO. So jealous!
Geez Randy, you got some really nice cars lately! Definitely great deals! I’m a little jealous LOL I’d love to see that SHO in my driveway 😊
I owned the FIRST YEAR SHO back in 1989. I traded it for a 1991. I kept that car for 10 years. It was my favorite car EVER! With a few MODS and the 5 Speed, it was a ROCKET SHIP for it's time. Never should have sold it.
I agree. All the SHO models were a well balanced package, the engines, trans, suspension and brakes.
BIG COMMENT HERE.😉
Love seeing this, I have had my 1997 since it was 2 years old and am the FIRST registered owner. NO CAM welding, only 57K the OD. I don't worry. Back in 1999, the cam weld parties were quite common back in the day and I knew many of the owners that attended these parking lot events.
Mine has been used in cruise nights and auto shows ONLY. Used to get laughed at back in 2000, however, that doesn't happen anymore, and has become the highlight at these events. It is pretty much a UNICORN and VERY difficult to find one that looks like it came off the showroom floor UNRESTORED, and surviving in original condition.
I have mine fitted with ANTIQUE plates now and insured through HAGERTY.
BTW. The 1999 doesn't have the same suspension as the 96-98. Also deleted is the power antenna AND leather wrapped shifter!
Glad you found the sunroof door.
Good to see another of the few left that has NOT been put in the bone yard!
NOTE: First gear should run to 7000 in drive! I think your secondaries may possibly NOT be opening, or fully at least, as it seems 'loggie' to me as well.
Keep in mind, that little motor is rated at 235 HP NORMALLY ASPIRATED - take away those turbos on your newer SHO, and I would bet it would have troublehangin' with the GEN 3 considering the weight of your GEN 4.. The GEN 3 came with Z rated tires for a reason, and the 144MPH fuel shutoff limit is nothing to sneeze at for a 4 door sport sedan from back in the 90ies!
Drag co-efficient is .30 Slippery for a sleeper from that era.
It's nearest competition was the Pontiac GTP with the 3.8 v6. Pontiac had to throw a SUPERCHAGER on that larger engine it to make 240 hp.!!! That is what was going on back in those days.
When you have owned one of these for a quarter century, you get to know the history, experiences, and stories first hand.
Enjoy your 'new' GEN 3 🙂. Fix her up, take care of her as I have done with mine.
YES!! I'm so happy the SHO finally made it to the shop. Hearing that start up, it brings back memories of my '97, I loved that car! Black with tan interior. That small motor was one of the best sounding V8's I've ever heard. Not the fastest but they were sneaky quick, and you could bury the needle over 150mph if you wanted to, it was crazy! Kept it until 138k miles and never had my cams welded. Started nickel and diming me towards the end, so it was time to trade, but boy do I miss her. Thanks for bringing this beauty to the channel Randy!
Previous owner probably had Alzheimer's and the family pulled the start relay to keep them from driving it.
I thought the same thing because we did just that on my grandma’s mercury cougar
Randy, it has to have a CD player. You just need to find the slot. Does it have a changer in the Trunk?
Great car to bring to the channel. It's good to see these cars that just aren't around anymore. Remember seeing a lot of these bubble Taurus back in the day but it's got to be 5 years since the last time I saw any. The SHO is such a cool car, and I think this gen with the V8 is the most interesting.
Can’t remember the last time I saw one.
my family wrecked 2 both in bright-red, the one/vin i/teenage-me drove/simi-dailyed was last on the road in 2006~ 99k-150k-miles-od and a huge elk/simi-truck at 80mph/I80 totalled out had it as a 1-owner and later on used's up as a parts car sold to my extended family that used up the other in a minor-wrecks 1-4~ ( also the pair were used as $$ trade/sold in for a 2005-09 300 aka parents newer car ) and or auto-trans died and crushed for can's 😉 didn't keep good tabs-vin's/families after 2008~ aka we didn't know/see the collectibleilty or at least i didn't pre2013~ plus it wasn't/isn't my favourite car type as im a convertibles/k1500 person, but nowadays zoomers saying it's a bad car nope it's just not for me and actually a okay car
If there is any car I would be proud to own it would have to be that Taurus SHO Something about that car just speaks to my heart, it sounds beautiful too
Had mine for 25 years now, still like new!
I had a Toreador Red 97 SHO, it had aluminum sub frame bushings, removed the fuse for the SARC struts, removed the third cat, and had aftermarket mufflers, the sound was glorious when those secondaries opened up, and handled very well all things considered.
There really wasn’t much out there for these unless you were creative however there were some creative people out there, doing such things as: windstar final drive swap, vortech supercharger, using GM w body rear adjustable lateral arms to adjust for rear camber and toe, 5 speed swap, swapping this engine into a wagon or a gen 4 Taurus, m90 supercharger, etc.
The AX4N trans was just really not well geared (nor was it even a good trans) in my opinion for engine whos peak power was at 6100rpm and 4000rpm, respectively. The shift strategy wasn’t all that great as well as in the video when you try to get it to kick down in first and it stayed in second it really just was too low of an rpm for that engine to climb up out of.
I still miss mine, I’ll be watching.
I'm glad you got the Taurus started. It sounds great. Another excellent video!
Heck yeah!!!!! Dude I ALWAYS wanted a V8 Taurus SHO! That baby is SO clean!
i just love taurus sho new and old
Jeez Randy you've been through so much with this car..I hope you have good blessings and awesome sales to get you back on your feet man. I love your channel and your vids. You really make my day.
That SHO sounds amazing. So happy you got it running. I could hear it in your voice how disappointed you were until she fired up. Another AAR win 🏆
I don't care what anybody says. I think that car is so friggin cool! I love it!
You did great Randy! What a great price! Well done!
What a Stunning looking engine! guarenteed to make peoples eyes widen when you lift the hood... Your right bro, I had no idea these ever had a V8, I had only ever seen these with the v6... had to doublecheck on google becuz I thought my eyes were decieving me...
Glad the SHO finally arrived Randy! Such a rare find and sounds great! Wow!
Happy to see that the SHO showed up Randy! Hopefully you can get it up and going and do a pursuit between the Taurus Police Interceptor and the SHO!
Sweet. You got the car finally delivered to you. Keep up the great work.
I sure wish you'd kept that airplane tug vehicle you had a good while ago. It would be useful for moving cars around the property. But I'm glad you got the SHO running 👍🇺🇸😎
Looks like a Borla exhaust my car has same chrome outlets and my car came stock with that as it was a factory added option on the Fusion Sports and Mustangs with the Cyclone and Coyote motors
Your channel is amazing with great content everytime I log on............keep up the great work! YOUR CHANNEL IS GONNA BE HUGE!
I love this!! I have a 1997 mercury sable as my first car, so i love seeing this on your channel!!
YES! This car finally showed up! Saw it finally came in on insta! Keep it up randy! I love that V8 sound! Love it Randy!!!! 🔥🔥🔥 wish you can do the pre thing bc we waited for awhile 😂! Good job getting it started you’re a master lad Randy, fuse may needed a boost I guess
At 13:50 bro turned evil lol. Laugh was crazy. Key turns extra hard lol
Randy, love the SHO Ford Taurus and your videos. Keep making videos . 👍
This is awesome Randy!!! I've always wanted one of those!
Nice content Randy Best in the world ! Love from Kenya.
Oh my, hope you get it running, I like this car.
Randy have the cams welded to save the motor
I do remember these i almost brought one. Yes glad you got it running i was happy for you! She’s in really good shape.
Love your videos. It is evident you are having fun!
Randy just creamed his jeans when this pup fired up!
Can tell someone loved it. Not the best transmission but they sound awesome and are excellent highway cruisers.
Awesome car. You're doing great Randy.
Hey Randy I really enjoy watching your channel. Keep up the good content.
Taurus SHO's were very common in the northwest. Never really held their value or demand. Still can get them cheap. Just shows how demand and value varies region by region. Worth checking out different areas outside your own for deals.
Key word.............WERE ! Not anymore. LOL
I bought a 1997 Taurus wagon in dark red. It had the smaller V6 engine in it. I didn't know the bigger engine was available. I really liked that car and it had more back seat room than the Explorer it was traded in for.
Randy,
What a gem for light money! Another home run of a video.
Very cool!
Peace,
DrRick
There was very few of those when they were new. I worked at the Ford dealer in around 03-05 and they told me about that issue with the cam gear. One technician got one for his wife. I haven't seen one in years.
When I was growing up an older guy than me had one and the dealership had to put a whole new motor in it under warranty because of that issue
Approx. 20K were made over the four years from 96 to 99.
I love it man 😄 that exhaust sounds A+
Great stuff like always randy appreciate you 💯
Very cool glad you got it going. Could be as simple as taking that fuse and and back in. Buddy had what was said to be a fuel issue likely the tbi system needed replaced. Ended up being the relay, he replaced it but just taking it out and back in fixed it.
I had a 99 ford taurus but my had a 3.0 V6 24 valve engine in it but it ran great got it from the 1st owner with 47,000 miles on it and drove it just over 200,000 miles on it and sold it to a lady and she is still driving it like the video try to watch all your video's keep up the great work. stay safe.
Glad the SHO finally arrived
I'm a retired Ford tech of 40+ years. The Taurus Sable platform was one of the best. You have gotten a good vehicle ...I hope you enjoy it and have a great day
Thanks 👍
Glad you were finally able to get it! Sorry I didn't make it down to Ft. Lauderdale and check on it! Awesome deal
If you ever read this. I drive a 120 HP Corolla that’s 22 years old. And it makes this look decently zippy. Not fast, but obviously has noticeably better acceleration and power.
Someone definitely loved that SHO. I love when I see a binder of pictures/records with the car
Some old guy who sadly passed away and the kids didn't use it and parked it. I do understand as I did the same with mums car. It sat for about a year and then my niece got her license so she is now using it. Car was still under warranty and only 2500 on it. Lots more on it now, but at least it's being used.
Nice exhaust tone to that SHO
I had a 1997 sho, one of my favorite cars I have owned. Made custom cold air intake for it and did the exhaust. Really woke it up. Mine always shifted high in first but my shoes are made of lead lol.
Hello Randy. Finally getting to see The 1999 Ford Taurus SHO. It's a great looking car. Hopefully there is nothing wrong with it.
That SHO would sure look better with some nice wheels and thicker meats on it 👍🏼
NO, too many 'kids' did that and they look and handle like HELL. Leave them alone AND enjoy them for what they are.
New 2024 Ford Taurus. Looks amazing!
She has been taken care of before you got her.😊👍
Awesome Video on the SHO. Definitely worth playing with and giving it a fresh paint job.
Still think this is one of the most beautiful engines in a car ever. Just look at it!
Hi randy. We live in such a small world. I was just watching the SHO video and in your notebook it showed it was purchased at Regan Ford in Haverhill, MA. I live about 1-1/2 miles away from there. Your car has done some travelling.
Lincoln LS Sedan would be cool on the home sted if you can find one 🍻 that v8 taurus is clean!
I love these body styles too. It seems like so many people hated them too. I guess you either love em or hate em from the late 90's.
Just found your channel. Awesome!
Hello Randy,im subbed and enjoy your great content, keep up your great work! A big 👍from Montreal, Canada 🇨🇦
You hit the jackpot with that SHO.. One for the money two for the sho.
They both run good.😊
One thing that's cool is the FWD Lincoln Continental of a similar vintage, had a transverse Cobra motor shoehorned under the hood, and was also built off the Taurus platform. I've been looking at some for sale, cause they've remained both plentiful and fairly affordable for what you get
Randy, That’s the best year of this car to have. Not is it only the last year for the SHO but, it’s the Only Year to have that instrument cluster.
Nice get!!! I have a 96 SHO. Absolute highway cruiser and yes, the most comfortable seats. I couldn't tell if the cams were welded from the pics but if not do it. Change the trans fluid yearly. The car will open open nicely at 3400 rpm. 8f not the wire to the secondaries is snaped. Wire them open. The suspension is active. The SARC struts are unobtainable now. When thet get soft pull the fuse and it puts them into full hard.
Love the Ford Taurus SHO Randy 😎😎👍👍
I like the first Gen SHO. I had a 1991 Ford Taurus SHO Plus when I was 18 years old in 2001. It was a 5 speed as well and I loved that car
I had one of those in red brand new. Mine was a company car, fully loaded and I drove it for 32,240 miles and they got me a truck. For the most part the car was a good car but it wasn't very refined transmission wise.
The motor was never an issue for the time I had it, and from what I heard it got wrecked by who ever took it after I had it. (Some of us got new cars every year or two, others drove them when they were handed down).
Power wise it was decent but nothing special, but I lived in a pretty hilly area then and there wasn't many places to open it up either. For me, it was just a stop gap between the Ford Explorer I had before it, and the 7.3L F350 4x4 that replaced it.
Finaly, nice one, sounds good😍🔥😎
Nice ride. I'm a Ford fanatic, I've owned 2 Thunderbirds and a Ford Ranger plus I drove a Police Interceptor for almost 10 years as a cop. My Thunderbirds were a (96) LX coupe and a (88)Turbo Coupe and I loved both. The fact that you found a AARP brochure, probably meant that most of the time, a older person owned it and may have passed away. Try using a higher octane fuel in it and see if it runs better, also try a K&N air filter system.
The 88 Tbirds were the best! The 96 was pretty darn nice too
@@daveebertz4206 oh yeah. I enjoyed both of them. The 88 was by far, my favorite.
I drove a 2014 ford fusion hybrid se it was amazing
Keep an eye on the Police Taurus water pump. Those are INTERNAL water pumps and be very costly to replace. I have a 2013 with low milage but it’s an going concern for me. Best of luck with your cars!
You got a excellent deal on the 1999 SHO !!!! Wow! a bargain!! You might try contacting the late owners family to see if they have the maintenance records for the car.
Definitely made my morning
I like that body style Taurus, that’s the oval generation. Everything was oval, the back window, the front lights, the doorhandles and even the radio. Enjoy it I know you will.
