    Twin turbos and all-wheel drive makes it a true Taurus SHO. Remember that police departments don't care about fuel mileage and they have a full-time maintenance department, unlike the retail public.

    That is a clean interceptor. I’ve owned several and just love them. Change the PTU fluid ASAP and watch for leaking water pump. Should be a wire under the dash for the horn that they cut. The braces in the trunk are only on interceptor models and what gives it the 5 star rear end crash rating. Back seat is vinyl but feels like leather.

    • @wjye
      @wjye Před 10 měsíci +19

      Yes, Ford does say that. However, I don’t believe that it’s an actual indication of wear on the engine. Ford came up with that spec so that fleet managers knew when to properly change the oil. Because even if the car is only driven a few thousand miles, the oil is still getting worn out as the engine is idling. Still higher idle hours, can mean issues for certain engines. This car is about average with 8000-ish total engine hours and only 4600 idle hours. That’s about the average range for used cop cars. It’s not been beat excessively but it’s no spring chicken either.

    That’s my car that I traded in a couple months ago. If you want the siren/air horn to work there’s a breaker under the hood on the battery. As for the normal horn, you just need the red switch on the siren controller turned off and it will work. I got it from a dealership in Ohio after a local department traded it in around 110k. The horn is wired through the light and siren control box, it looks like the power is disconnected to it. Just lift it out and make sure power is supplied to it and the sound and PA should work right out of the gate. The lights may also work depending on if the lights that were installed in the actual car aside from the light bar are still there, so just be careful with turning them on in public. You can actuate the regular horn when the box has power and the switch is OFF by pressing the wheel. You can actuate the police horn with the wheel when the Whelen box is ON and by also pressing the horn button on the box. Switching between MAN 1 and 2 will change the MAN button from the siren to the horn depending on which one you have selected. Have fun!

    Love the deal. Seems to be perfect, except for the missing horn. And, as you mentioned several times, I can see where other drivers reaction to it could get to be really annoying. Wonder how actual law enforcement would react to its presence?

    Happy you finally got a Taurus man! I have a 2016 Ford Taurus SEL silver but mine is the citizen version. I know what you mean a car that big doesn't look like it should be that fast. I have let some of my family members use my car and they would always come back to me saying man I didn't know that car was that fast hahaha. But again very happy you got one you will for sure love it!

    Per Ford, 1 idle hour equates to 33 miles.. so 4,633 idle hrs x 33mi = 152,889 miles in addition to the 155k on the clock.. so theoretically the car has 308k on it

    • @jeremybrown6894
      @jeremybrown6894 Před 10 měsíci

      It is not 33 miles of wear, that is how to calculate oil change intervals in vehicles

    • @danlenox1430
      @danlenox1430 Před 10 měsíci

      As a fleet mechanic who's worked for 3 different cities, all of which were exclusively ford products, I can assure you that they do in fact consider it wear. We calculate oil change intervals either by the oil life monitor or odometer readings for light use vehicles, and for the heavy use vehicles(i.e police cars) we change the oil every 30 days because the cars run almost 24/7. My current city garage has a mix of chevy, dodge and ford and they are all treated the same.
      "Ford Motor Company defines idling as follows: Over 10 minutes per hour of normal driving, frequent low speed operation, and sustained heavy traffic less than 25 mph. It is important to note that idle hours include low speed driving and don't mean that the cruiser is sitting still that entire time.
      Times that a police cruiser may accumulate idle hours include: 25 mph town road patrols, running radar, having pulled over a vehicle, accident scenes, while an officer is on a call, details, winter operation, and while searching an area via patrol car. All of those activities require either low speed driving or remaining stationary.
      Ford says that one hour of idle time = approximately 25 miles of driving. One hour of engine time = 33 miles of driving."
