This race incorporates the trials for the European Cross Country Championships, giving athletes a chance to earn a coveted Great Britain vest and represent their country at a major championships.

Thank you! We’re confident the subs will come over time - the stuff we can create will be off the scale if we have 50k people watching rather than 5k. “Athletics” is a much smaller niche than “running” (parkrun, etc.) but we’re slowly winning people over!
You appeared to be a lot further back on the livestream and didn’t get much mention on the commentary. Then out of nowhere you ended up with a cracking result! Good effort. Enjoying the progress.
I made the mistake of going out too hard a few weeks ago when I raced in Spain, so had to learn some lessons from that 👍🏼

Coverage in the UK is terrible. It’s nobody’s fault really, most organisers are strapped for cash and it’s a big investment to get a good stream/video when there is little proof that the audience is out there. Hopefully stuff like this proves there is an appetite for it!

I stopped running when I was 16, used to do the young athletes leagues and I remember racing Hugo Milner in a few of those. He was pretty insane back then, a bit surreal seeing him win this one.

This is great work guys! I saw an interview with Carl Lewis at the same race where he comments on the state of athletics saying "if you have to talk about yourself then you're not broadening it (the audience)". The focus on the competition and battles within this race which are not often communicated to people outside of those small circles seems like a step in that direction. Well done!!

One thing that really stands out for me with Callum is how strong he looks compared to the other runners. I don’t know if it’s the mile training or something else but no matter what the surface or distance into the race, his form holds a lot steadier than most!😊

Made a cup of coffee over here in the States and caught your race in the morning. Man, what a great race generally, and I thought you did pretty great. Wasn't clear how that left the selection based on the broadcast commentators, but great race! The commentators were saying the first 4 spots were guaranteed, and the final 2 were up for selection maybe? Sounds like you'll be going to EuroCross, though, which is always a great race to watch!
That’s exactly right, although usually (almost every year) it’s the top 6 they end up picking. For the clarity & simplicity of the video we just decided to explain it as the top 6! Thanks for watching!

Facts
Do you stay overnight before and/or after the race? Or do you just turn up, warm up, race, get covered in mud and then drive home?!
Depending on how far the travel is I usually stay the night before & travel home after the race (for UK races). International is multiple nights 👍🏼

Ridiculous to think your time averaged out to sub 30min 10k on a grass (bog) course. Insane.
Probably just a little outside 30:00, as when I got home I saw the course was slightly shorter than the advertised 9.8km (according to people that wore a watch)... but I'm taking it!
I've had this conversation with other youtubers but how can an event in November be "the premier event" in the UK X Country season? It's far too early in the season, a lot of track runners are just returning to heavy training after their end of season break. The European Championships are also far too early in the season - equivalent to holding a track championships in May. Shouldn't the focus of the X Country season be the World Champs in March?
Having said all that, great video and one hell of a run! Massive congratulations! You must be over the moon with your current fitness levels?
Same argument works the other way around… this year World XC is far far too close to the track season - meaning those focusing on the Olympics may choose not to compete. Also, this year the Euro Outdoor champs are 7th June, so almost “May” haha.
Perhaps the timing of the European track championships in 2024 is dictated by the fact that there is a more important meet a couple of months later! Only happens every four years. Euro X Country champs at the same time every year!@@the.distanceproject
@@markbateman9222 it's better for athletes and fans for it not to clash with the indoor season.... then we'd see watered down fields in both competitions and wouldn't allow the top athletes to try and win everything possible!
