I remember my first viewing of "Late Night" in the summer of 1983. Author James Clavell was the announced guest, and this guy strutted out, posed imperiously in front of a giant mock-up of the cover of "Shogun," and then proceeded to denounce David for his weak questions and failure to understand his writing. Then he broke into tears and called himself a "sham." I thought it was horrible to witness this breakdown, but couldn't look away. Everyone else knew it was Bud, but not me, cause I never saw the show before. I was a loyal viewer for years, and always awaited the great sham author's next appearance. Larry was the king.
I knew Larry Budd Melmen. he was one of my first customers at Sterling Optical BayRidge Brooklyn NY Bud Millman wore Contact lenses under eyeglass because the eyeglass we're part of his act to be funny. May he RIP Bud Melmen
Larry Bud was so cute, loveable, and cuddly, that I would have married him on the spot if I had the chance, donning the best wedding dress any wedding in the World has ever witnessed. AND I'M A STRAIGHT GUY!

the hyptnotist , I think I saw that episode ! Shit I cant think of his name but Letterman just kept hip-checking the guys 'act' to the point where he was reduced to insulting Dave.
+Taumpy Tears His name was Marshall Sylver (the world's "fastest" hypnotist), and his first appearance is here: czcams.com/video/zTLFzA-JAFA/video.html and then his second appearance where Dave had to have him back is in the rest of this episode here: czcams.com/video/b137_o50AUs/video.html (at 16:18 mark). I miss Dave so much.
+Brett Walsh HOLY SHIT ! I Remember that ! hahaha yeah , He was brought back because he made a stink about his first appearance. Thanx for coming up with his name , (I just googled him) hes still kicking. I miss Dave too
Best. Episode. Ever! Best part on his first appearance was when they’re about to get started and Sylver is concerned about a couple of the volunteers and Dave frustratingly just kinda waves his hand and says, _”...nobody’s buying this anyway!”_ And nobody was, then or the second time. Dave did interrupt a lot, but the whole act was nonsense! 😒
Dave's skits are like partially remembered dreams
Truly. Surreal.
Larry "Bud" Melman was the most beloved man in America for a few years.
Happy 100th to Larry "Bud" Melman - July 23, 2021. RIP Calvert.
Calvin DeForest RIP loved this guy
Larry was so cute. Like a character from a far side cartoon, glasses and all.
For those who might not get this, this was the essence of Letterman. You put him in front of a dumpster fire, and watch him squirm!
This is why I was often late for school.
I miss these days. He was eccentrically funny🙂

@@larrymelman Wow. It shows me how tricked my memory is. That was my favorite Bud Melman memory, and it turns out wrong.
This is absolute magic….just OUTSTANDING.
Always Loved the way he said "Hi David"
It's unbelievable just how big and unexpected of a jackpot Larry "Bud" Melman won with his gig on Letterman.
"Well pump me full of sewage and leave me in a ditch." LOL
Does he say "sewage" or "suet"? It's hard to tell.
@@jazzfan6 likely suet, Dave liked suet references back when he was funny
Bacon flavored Suet.
80s Letterman is best Letterman

Correction: Calvert DeForest as Larry "Bud" Melman as Kenny the Gardener as Donny the Pastry Chef as Jay Leno.
But thanks for a great clip. =o)
What a wormhole we have fallen into..
It is/was Calvert Deforest as Larry "Bud" Melman as Kenny the Gardener as Donny the Pastry Chef as Chris Elliott as Jay Leno? Pa(stry) attention.

AND I'M A STRAIGHT GUY!
Omg the sound effect!
Everyone loves Larry
he is oh so cute love love love him
Where would we be without Donny the Pastry Chef???
Probably the same place we would be without Dwight The Troubled Teen.
Hi David. What a sweet guy.
Hey, whoops!
My hero.
Wending machines, lol. He was the best. And the worst.
LOL "coins?"
These train wrecks are truly the best. They were so far ahead of their time.
2:33 I swear he's saying "what's fucking Donnie"

Everything with Calvert got higher and higher concept as time went on.
When he broke into Bali Hai I nearly shat myself
You would be half asleep, and there he was.
Hey whoops!
Hey Donnie
Donny was the godfather of fusion cooking..................
Larry Bird Melmouth the Wanderer
Flour arranging
BOINNGGGGG!
I wish someone would post the Enzo Bud Melman bit where Larry pretends to be Enzo Ferrari.
It was amazing how distinct his impressions were from each other.

Letterman owes a bit to Chris Elliot?
Hi
...either this ep. lost it's 80's luster or seriously... WTF?
Donny the Pastry chef never worked as well as Kenny.
Why is the volume so low?
Chris Elliot was way better
