  • Quick video showing how I modified my 1999 BMW F650 to have adjustable height rear suspension. You will need a welder to do it this way. Let me know if you have any better ideas or know of a longer shock that could be used. Thanks! `

    Thinking about doing this - i dont access to a welder, could i do it with extension plates and if so, how exactly? Thanks in advance

    • @NoNonsenseKnowHow
      @NoNonsenseKnowHow  Před 4 lety +1

      Honestly I'm not sure about the other ways of doing it. Getting yourself a cheap welder and doing it this way I think is the easiest option

    hi.once i do a similar thing in a yamaha xt600 i had,but i make a peace that fits in the original place and than the fork fit's on it.So that doesn't include welding.The moto was very high than the original,but i don't know if it's from the geometry or something else,but after doing that i was not able to fit the air filter.That is aluminion right ?

    • @NoNonsenseKnowHow
      @NoNonsenseKnowHow  Před 6 lety

      Michel Chambel that's cool. I used to have a 1983 XT550, and I loved it! this is steel not aluminum. thanks for watching and thank you for your comment! :)

    How was the front after lifting the rear? Didnt you find it weird handling from the front being low compared to back? I guess you re adjusted the headlight?

    • @NoNonsenseKnowHow
      @NoNonsenseKnowHow  Před 4 lety +2

      Honestly I was a little worried about that but I didn't notice any change at all. Felt good to me. And yes adjusted the headlight

      @@NoNonsenseKnowHow Another option for those who dont have access to a welder is to use a Dakar shock up to 07. Its a bit longer which equates to about 40mm increased travel. But you lose the quick adjustment feature.

  • @olly69z

    Why didn't you just add extension plates to either side the bottom of the shock mount ?

    • @NoNonsenseKnowHow
      @NoNonsenseKnowHow  Před 5 lety +1

      I used the same method on my xl600r and I liked how it came out. I don't know, this is just the way my head thought up to do it. And I also like that it's very easily adjustable from positions. My xl600r has a pin that's spring loaded and you can adjust it on the Fly without any tools

    • @NoNonsenseKnowHow
      @NoNonsenseKnowHow  Před 4 lety

      Honestly I only checked mine twice in the entire ownership of the bike. They were never out of spec for me. I think checking them every 12,000 miles is a good number. Or definitely check them if you ever happen to have running issues / tapping

      @@NoNonsenseKnowHow thanks man! Its an Awesome bike, but i want more suspension because i ride it like a dirt bike, and i shouldn't, but i just can't stop. I swear - one last question- issues with chain roller / chain slack with the added ground clearance? I found out i can throw a gs dakar shock on to get ~1.5" more suspension travel and ride height, but am concerned with the chain and sidestand. Last question, sorry. I also threw on 1995 xr250r forks with air preload, so now i have 11" or front travel. How could this possibly go wrong. 😁😝

    • @NoNonsenseKnowHow
      @NoNonsenseKnowHow  Před 4 lety +2

      @@roamingeagle no problem man. I added an aftermarket chain roller. But no the slack was not an issue for me. And that's cool that you put XR 250 Forks on there. They bolted right up? I guess same diameter tubes?
