Because people don't actually think. If it wasn't a pr stunt, the lipstick would have taken month to came in those evidence baggies. Just the quote and manufaction would have taken 1 or 2 month, then the shipping another month.
It wasn't possible to do all this in one week.

@@33cangel I mean pr is wasteful in general, so I think this isn't just a CT issue, but the industry issue in general. Companies send insane amounts of pr to influencers without a guarantee they will review it which is a general problem in itself
As someone who’s had multiple jobs where we order marketing POP materials, it has to be planned because the time it would’ve taken to get a quote for those PR evidence bags, approve the final design, get them made & shipped to all the creators and post the content in a timely fashion in response to the lipsticks “missing” would’ve taken months from start to finish.

The CT team had the Evidence packaging ready as well as the Missing posters etc. It was planned and designed by them from the start. They didn’t have to let the influencers in on the scheme, they still made them go viral. Either way, it’s all marketing.
I’m so turned off when I see a huge amount of PR behind an influencer. I don’t watch any of those because to me those influencers can’t be honest. The only way to get that much PR is if you “LOVE” everything.
For me it's that and the brands making massive, wasteful PR boxes full of plastic and weird presentations for absolutely no reason. It's going to the trash as soon as its opened. The whole thing is so gross.

The fact they had the evidence bags and lipsticks ready so quick is proof it was planned. But I’m willing to believe the influencers themselves had no idea because I honestly think someone would’ve snitched by now if they did.
I've been buying and selling on mercari and posh, and let me tell you.....I've come across TONS of influencers selling all their PR for retail and alot of times MORE than retail. It's so frustrating. I came across one seller that was selling an unreleased/unannounced product!

Charlotte Tilbury did this to counter ELFs 15 minute stolen makeup video. Charlotte is basically calling ELF out on their Charlotte Tilbury dupe for the flawless filter and how ELF stole her idea. That’s why at the end, Charlotte Tilbury made the comment that there is only one original. It’s absolutely genius marketing! My hope is that the influencers will keep their giant lipstick boxes because they are so cool, and then they won’t end up in the trash.

You can tell the other two women who received the "messed up" PR packages were lying. As somebody that went to college for acting & spent a decade of my life doing it, those girls were high school drama level acting lolol. I think their fanbase must be super young because it was like Nickelodeon acting. Mikayla on the other hand, if she was lying (she looks around lot whenever she says something that you would think would be a lie, so potentially) she is much better at it than the other two girls. That in & of itself though is alarming & showcases she likely is much more used to lying & has developed ways in which to make it seem much more real than the average person.

It’s about E.L.F for the stolen makeup short film that links with the Super Bowl advert. Since E.L.F is now about dupes more than original product and ideas - Charlotte is calling them out indirectly but it’s clever but if you only know half the story it looks pathetic
I don’t like these gimmicks. I was going to buy the foundation and eye pencils to try them, however now you can forget about it. The fact companies spend so much on marketing with influencers and trips, even back then on commercials lets me know that we are extremely overcharged on product. Let everything come to light so we can decide where to better spend our money.
This was 100% marketing. CT was called out a while ago for sending people empty packages instead of their orders, so now they're trying to make empty packages a silly haha

It would have been cool if they had it done to cover up a mistake, but they had the customized evidence bags made and sent out in a timely fashion so it was on purpose. What would have been better is to send one box and have the evidence bags in the same delivery with the instructions on the top to not open until a certain date, so only one package was delivered. Technically they really wouldn't have known if the possible second package only had an open on date, but they could have suspected, and they could have been told to play along. Seems complicated a theory, either way it was a noticeable stunt.

The empty boxes were totally planned. It's genius marketing to get people all confused & interested in the initial unboxing videos. And when the influencers get the lipsticks later, they post ANOTHER video about the product, which is even more exposure.
I have watched several influencers open up multiple packages that have come that month from the same brand so this happens all the time and I think it’s wasteful all of these times. The thing is the company is only looking at their bottom line to do this campaign, if we think they really care about the cost of boxes and waste we are sorely mistaken.

I’m sorry, it’s just comes across as so contrived. I think it could have been a fun gimmick if it was obvious from the start but the way they’re apparently going about it just rubs me the wrong way.
If it was truly an accident this is a crazy way to go about rectifying the issue but I find it hard to believe as an accidental oversight. Like put a ransom note in the empty boxes, make it apparent it’s going to be a fun little mystery from the start, don’t rely on influencers acting “skills,” to serve this narrative.
I totally believe someone messed up but came up with a marketing genius plan to cover up their mistake. Give a raise to the person who came up with the Charlotte Tilbury lipstick heist concept!

It’s a dig at a video ELF made it’s on their YT page. I am sure the influencers were in on it. There is no way the influencers would have posted the videos and show CT in a bad light. The last thing they’d want is to be taken off CT PR list. Plus the reactions were so fake.
I saw one influencer receive an empty box but she then said “Good thing I was one of the models” and pulled out the samples she received from the photoshoot and tried them out for us. In the same video. 🧐 I think it was a genuine mistake

There’s only one explanation: charlotte did it on purpose and didn’t tell influencers. Here are my reasons (in a chaotic list)
-would have to pay more for influencers to be in on it
-would have their weird case potentially spoiled by influencers
-charlotte is not known for missing products ever. So it would be a really weird inconsistency that suddenly the PR packages (#1 priority) would have some missing
-had skits, evidence bags and all on the go and ready. That’s not super feasible on the fly.
-extra- for those complaining about waste, don’t bother. I hate the waste of PR packages. But, the second package probably just came in a small box with the plastic bag and bubble wrap. Yes, a waste, but the second package is much less waste, so we can’t bring up waste for the second package without acknowledging the waste in the first.
I want this lipstick lowkey however the massive box is extremely unnecessary they could’ve just sent a small box with no lipstick it would’ve had the same effect.

She totally knew. Being realistic, is she had opened up the box while recording and found it empty, she would’ve contacted the brand to check for mistakes and THEN re-record it. She wouldn’t risk a scandal like that when the brands and the influencers have the personal relationship they claim to have with consumers. It’s like a group of friends rich playing around.

What I enjoyed was a compilation of all the influencers being surprised by not getting the lipsticks, but you can clearly see that the panels hiding the lipsticks had been opened. The influencers had to be in on it with CT.

This has made me feel that they are "All" lying about the products. I had a cart full of products on Amazon, and now I am only choosing what I want to try. Everything has a price tag for them. One minute, they love the product. Next, the product is horrible. Everyone skin type is different. It may not work for us all.

Obviously this entire thing was a PR stunt, and a pretty genius one at that. Giving some influencers an empty PR box and others a normal one so it would seem more "realistic" that it was a shipping mishap, generating lots of buzz, then following up with the skits.

I don’t know all the info but I’d say CT sent the lipsticks and the evidence bags with the original PR but only to some influencers. Like the video said they seemed surprised but the packaging already looked opened. The influencers could have pulled them out and put them into the evidence bags because those bags don’t seem like a good way to send makeup…I don’t believe for one second CT or the influencers didn’t know.
It's all because e.l.f dups most of CT products with its best methods. CT is mad mad😂 anyway... i totally agree with highend, expensive products having best dups. Not everyone is bougie and rich to splurge on a 50+ USD lip liner or anything.
This is kind of funny. From anothwr marketing perspective, the people who didn’t get the lipsticks seem like the type of customer who doesn’t shop Charlotte Tillbury and just uses the free product. So the influencers with a more sophisticated audience got the lipsticks to show. Now the mikayla’s of the internet have given their audience a sense of FOMO. Brilliant.
it was aaabsolutely planned, people love an interactive campaign like this! though i wish they went a little deeper and made it into an ARG, leaving people clues to solve the mystery themselves instead of making it just TikTok campaign. leaving clues on the website, codes to crack, images to find - and lets say the first person to crack the mystery gets the evidence bags with the lipsticks! obviously this was still very effective but i think they could've given themselves one more week to leave some clues to really draw people in and reaaally make sure people talk about this campaign for longer
