While I do believe good quality things need quality prices - but this is insane. $50 maybe $60 max for this. And also just because it is made in California doesn’t mean the fabric is from California. The fabric is probably from overseas & its just sewed here.
the design could maybe, just maybe, be the decisive force to mark it up if she hire a famous product designer or collab with a famous designer or artist or sth but her tote design is as basic and as useful as any 5$ tote bag, so no point even for the design
Excellent point! Also, and not saying this is the case for the company Emily worked with, sweat shops exist in North America, too. "Made in the USA" doesn't automatically mean it's made ethically, like you said. Way too many companies use the fact they're made in North America to justify charging exorbitant prices. Because even if every single thing about the production of these bags was ethical, $120USD for a tote bag is ridiculous. Especially one with such a simple design.
I work in the fashion industry, you do not need to go overseas for duck canvas, at that price point you can buy it here and not have to deal with overseas shipments/ minimums
Lol, 60$ for a tote bag? Ok, quality has a price, but this is a piece of cotton fabric, have you any idea of the cost for the material and the industrial sewing? Clearly not, and if you are willing to pay 60$ for a tote bag, then you deserve those scams. Sorry but y’all need a reality check: a tote bag is an item supposed to be sustainable and reduce the waste and cost of single use bags, therefore paying 50-60$ for it would be totally against the purpose of sustainability and affordability

@@sarahpie3147none of your points justify the fact that her bag is $120. you don't know if the bags are mass produced. cotton fabric certainly doesn't cause the ridiculous upcharge, and neither does a zipper. the truth is that when you buy these items in bulk, you get it for extremely cheap. i could see this bag being $20-$30 from the factory maybe. the insane upcharge is not something to defend
@@Cats_eattacosif they were mass produced, you would easily find one from alibaba or temu because they have the same styles just different logo/branding but hers apparently aren’t from there. They aren’t mass produced they’re just a rip off .

I probably have 15 bath and body works/victorias secret totes, all good quality and durable, some with zippers and extra pockets. This is way too much money
@@LunarElevenin the video she mentioned she could have made it more reasonable around the $80 ballpark but i wouldn’t pay $40 for that bag let alone $80 😂
@@angryblatina8803 oh I remember that part now, yeah I thought the exact same thing. More than $10 for a canvas tote is absurd to me. For $80 it needs to be made of a better material, like a quality vegan leather which at least resists water. A water resistant liner you can wipe clean would be great too, fruits from the market can juice a little or get squished and then you have a sticky mess.
I'm a farmer and beekeeper and I used to sell tote bagsalong with my products that were made in the UK where I live, that were 100% cotton and that I screen printed myself, and sold them for 18£, and still made some profit (albeit small) from them. 120$ is insane.
Right? My absolute favorite thing to do (at the market) is buy a tote bag or a glass or mug along with whatever I have gotten at the farmers market or flea market etc. It means more! The bag is tied back to the farm I get my honey from, the place I think has the best golden beets ever, or the stand the sells the only N/A sparkling cider I like at the market. I dunno, it's like band tees for farmers markets, like I'm a punk but for hands covered in dirt and people trying to find local produce. Bonus points for patching it with local patches.
But you don't have to buy it. I would never spend that much money on a canvas tote, but it doesn't give me reason to be offended by the price. They sold out, so she put the right price on it.
Also it's possible that they produce a small amount on purpose to create artificial scarcity, so they can sell it with high price because it's "rare" :"D
Exactly! I didn’t agree with the other girl’s TikTok defending Emily. If her followers don’t agree with the price, they should feel free to say so. That’s how you stay in touch with your audience. You allow them to give you feedback on your product.
Yea, the one girl saying the viewers were the ones out of touch…. What she didn’t mention was how people who love that content creator WANT to support her, know if they buy her product that she receives profit, and if a bag is outrageously priced and they can’t afford it, they can’t support her. Therefor ostracizing an entire demographic of her audience and essentially saying “my content isn’t for you, it’s for people who can afford my $120 tote bag” and will turn a lot of people off to her. That’s why the “if you can’t afford, don’t buy it then” argument doesn’t make sense. Sure, it’s true, if you can’t afford something don’t buy it. Especially in this economy. But what does that do to the majority of Emily’s fans who cannot afford it? It leaves them feeling less then, wondering why they even follow this girl, as she’s clearly not who they thought she was if she treats her loyal fans as if their peasants who can’t afford her luxury lifestyle. And no one was asking for a $5 bag from her. People were saying they’d gladly pay $50-$60 for a bag like that IN ORDER to support her and her business. So it’s not like her fans were being “cheap.” It’s just an obviously cash grab and people don’t like it.
@@anonimoose165 another theory is that the girl defending her might be paid. you know, to try to 'balance out' the responses. this is a big claim but you never know with these influencers.

As someone who is approaching their mid30s, I can say that people my age are looking for their last “hurrah“ of making it big. Sometimes we just keep missing the next big thing and sometimes these people seem to have the answer when we see them striving and thriving. But we know better than to pay them any mind. We know a grift when we see one. Which is why it’s all the more disappointing because we need more of a leg up then just a 9 to 5 and “hustle culture“
I'm not sure how the law works in US (i believe it's very similar) but in the EU the "made in the..." is a bit of a gimmick. As long as the final product is assembled in, let's say, Germany u can write everywhere "MADE IN GERMANY". You can order cheap material from China, weak buttons for cents, sew the handles in Cambodia but as long as they are separate parts and constructed in EU you are clear.
Yep, you're correct- it's the same in the US. Another comment mentioned that she could've very well get all the material from another country it's just sewed and assembled in the US and *BAM* "Made in the US".
Sometimes it’s not even sold out. If she produced only like 5 or 10 Totes from each color of course it’s going to be sold out 😂😂 people are insane, 120 dollars for a bag? SMH 🤦♀️
Literally yeah, exactly. I think Tea Spill said this when James Charles released his paints and already had another shipment coming in…their sites never tell you how many they “stocked” so assume bs like this is stocked to a low amount and gets “sold out” to make it seem like omg 🤯 it’s sold a lot! I don’t know why people don’t see through the bs.
Thing is, most influencers, even if they make "luxury" content (or especially then!) have a following of people with way less money than them. She can ofc set the price that high, but most of her following isn't going to buy it. From a marketing standpoint that doesn't make a lot of sense? Why would she make a product that does not fit her already aquired following?
@RinsDesk I assumed she had a small stock made as well. That way, when it sold out people would get fomo and demand a restock. But wow, I wonder who paid that much for a reusable tote bag.
Wealthy people don’t buy that stuff..they know what quality is. It’s the middle class who want to look rich that this is aimed at ..they are the ones that go crazy over name brands
LL Bean has been around forever. They also have a policy you can return stuff, even if you used it for 20 years. They will send you a new item. I had winter boots that after 10 years got a hole in them. I sent them back and they sent me a new equivalent pair (they didn’t make the ones I had anymore) for free. I have their totes, they were super sturdy and last forever.
I have used the same LL bean backpack for daily use since I was in middle school (i am turning 26) and have never had an issue with it My winter coat is LL bean and has lasted me nearly 6 winters and I used to be a preschool teacher who went outside several times a day in it. Never an issue! And my mom has had the same LL bean winter boots since I was a baby that she uses every winter. I looove LL bean ♡
Did you really think that the 10 years of wear you got out of your boots wasn’t enough? When people abuse generous return policies, companies either 1) change the policies or 2) Go out of business.

Two things can be right at the same time: this tote bag is extremely expensive for it to be a tote bag and doesn’t look different from any other tote bag. And I don’t even know who this girl is, but if I did, and I saw the price of this, I would’ve calmly exited out of the website and kept living my life. If that’s what she chooses then, so be it. But I don’t have to buy it and that’s okay and I can do it without trashing her. But yes, $120 for a tote bag is expensive in my opinion.
Economies of scale. LL bean has a large minimum order quantity compared to Emily's which would probably push the price way down. Additional supply chain costs could affect the cost of goods assuming she is only selling tote bags and nothing else. LL bean is a store chain so cost is like offset by other stuff they make.
I only agree with that one girl who said that she is more luxury and that is the audience she’s trying to get at and she did because her bags are sold out so I for me yeah her pricing is ridiculously high I would never pay that but for someone who has a life like Emily and lives in luxury then yes that bag is for you

As a small business I have looked into getting my products manufactured here in the US and overseas. The start up price here in the US costs more but production does not. I opted to work with a family run company in India. They have been so much nicer to work with than the place I started with in Los Angeles. Anyway the price she has doesn't make sense no matter what country you have it made in.
That’s probably a better marketing strategy for her followers than a tote bag. I don’t understand what was going on in her mind when she came up with the idea for this.
My problem with the famous quote of "those who can afford it, will buy it. If you can't, don't" but the problem with that is that it creates an illusion bubble of prices. Why should a tote bag be that expensive? It's only setting a bar of prices. If someone plays 120, they will pay 150 and so and so. Buying something overpriced is encouraging those prices, that's why makeup prices raised so much in the last years. They KNOW people would buy it anyways so they create a huge profit until the trend washes away. The economy is fucked up because of stuff like this.

True we don't have a ton of textiles here
Lol, 60$ for a tote bag? Ok, quality has a price, but this is a piece of cotton fabric, have you any idea of the cost for the material and the industrial sewing? Clearly not, and if you are willing to pay 60$ for a tote bag, then you deserve those scams.
Sorry but y’all need a reality check: a tote bag is an item supposed to be sustainable and reduce the waste and cost of single use bags, therefore paying 50-60$ for it would be totally against the purpose of sustainability and affordability

Geez, that girl is so freakin' annoying. Can she even hear herself? 😂
And all of her obnoxious yelling at the screen is supposed to be a substitute for making a legitimate argument...
But you don't have to buy it. I would never spend that much money on a canvas tote, but it doesn't give me reason to be offended by the price. They sold out, so she put the right price on it.
I think she just marked it as being sold out to prove a point. It won't be long before there's a "re-stock."
Or it could be like how some companies stock little product so it’s “sells quicker”
Also it's possible that they produce a small amount on purpose to create artificial scarcity, so they can sell it with high price because it's "rare" :"D
People have a right to voice their opinion about the price or quality of something.

And if they did, they'd probably would rather spend that on something else or are saving for something else.
It's the same here
Wow! Well it say where it's from too. Like Thailand or Cambodia and Turkey and India.

@@sprklebarf3 ANYTHING an influencer puts out is a cash grab. when all these major brands are exploiting workers, cutting corners and making product for cheap and selling them for a huge mark up. obviously influencers are going to do the same. they literally CANT put out anything better ethically. they dont have the funds or organization. even if its not ethical, its still sub-par because they have far less materials to go off of. dont buy anything from an inflencer, especially if its self made. because you will find something better cheaper. youtubers and influencers have been outting out hoodies for $70 for years. its always been a cash grab
@@sprklebarf3 yeah they do but to be insulting her and telling people not to buy it is a bit much. Just because one person can’t afford it doesn’t mean everyone is struggling financially.
@@sprklebarf3 yea there’s actually a lot of people who impulsively buy thing’s while they couldn’t obviously spent it on something of more use, especially those who follow influencers. Irl people really do spend what they don’t have and need a reminder that it’s just not worth it and it’s great to go to the comments and read as that reminder that it’s nothing special. If we kept silent and let people “just do them” then so many more impulse buyers would be struggling without coming to the realization that some things are just over priced for no reason. I agree with you
@@spewky2955 said beautifully. My neice and so many other children are on social media as well and if she brings something to me that she likes, I'm gonna check the comments as well as other consumer reviews. I appreciate the comments that alert me to the cash grab.
I liked it when she was quiet, making content.
They might be sold out but she probably only had 7 in stock 😂
It’s mass produced so it’s cheaper, plus if it’s cotton material it gets more expensive, plus where it’s made and the zip is personal choice...most shopping bags aren’t zipped
I think knowledge in business and marketing helps to understand her pricing
If there’s only “7” in stock that’s still good, shows there’s plenty rolled knows the value in her products
Holy crap! I would've thought $40 or so for a tote is a reasonable price.
The fact that it was sold out being so incredibly overpriced represents what's wrong with society. It's not about 'whoever can afford it can buy it and that's that', it's about selling products at an unjustifiable price and thinking that's ok... well it turned out it's okay cause people can't stop themselves from consumerism, even if it's a steal. So here we are...
i mean duh? its been this way from the start of businesses. its why i never buy things that anyone famous plugs. those types of people dont deserve my money.
I don’t think she cares nor bothered, her audience are people who can afford
Some influencers... (Mikayla first to appear 💀💀💀)
All these gates and none of them solved
Lol right! Their items are always sold out and these same brainwashed ppl will still follow em.
if the totes are sold out why haven’t I seen anyone talking about the shopping/shipping experience or reviewing them on social media?
FYI, Emily used to make lifestlye, skincare related content where she used to talk on camera.
She portrayed a bubbly and funny persona.
The way you say $120 is so funny and idk why 😭
I thought I was the only one who’d notice that lol “One hundre twenty”
hahahaha omg 😭💀
Right now you can get a coach, radley london and a ted baker all of the with expensive materials for less than that taxes included 😂
Two things can be right at the same time: this tote bag is extremely expensive for it to be a tote bag and doesn’t look different from any other tote bag. And I don’t even know who this girl is, but if I did, and I saw the price of this, I would’ve calmly exited out of the website and kept living my life. Because I do agree that if you don’t want something, you just simply don’t get it. I’m not about to trash this girl for something that she feels as though is worth $120. If that’s what she chooses then, so be it. But I don’t have to buy it and that’s okay and I can do it without trashing her. But yes, $120 for a tote bag is expensive in my opinion.
Exactly. People will pay for what they like. If not, keep it moving.
Economies of scale. LL bean has a large minimum order quantity compared to Emily's which would probably push the price way down. Additional supply chain costs could affect the cost of goods assuming she is only selling tote bags and nothing else. LL bean is a store chain so cost is like offset by other stuff they make.
I only agree with that one girl who said that she is more luxury and that is the audience she’s trying to get at and she did because her bags are sold out so I for me yeah her pricing is ridiculously high I would never pay that but for someone who has a life like Emily and lives in luxury then yes that bag is for you
Even people with money have more sense than this 😂 This is just influencer sheep culture. Her fans probably wanna support her but let's be real for a second... That shit isn't worth it and Emily does not even interact with her fan base enough to warrant this kind of support. Delulu fr
I have a similar sized Chanel tote with their iconic leather straps woven through metal hardware that I got for $100 😅 I appreciate the LL Bean plug too! I needed a reliable grocery store tote 😊
I wouldn’t spend more than $60 on a tote bag. I still use my DoorDash one, it’s insulated and it has a zipper
I think the problem with the high price is that it is an exclusion of a majority of her fans by her. Her fans have the right to want to feel included, since they also follow and support her
dude one of my favorite artists Harry Styles has a luxury brand called Pleasing he has a bunch of tote bags and they're one of the most popular items EACH BAG IS AROUND $60 I BELIEVE😭 AND IT HAS A ZIPPER AND IT CAN HOLD SO MANY THINGS SINCE HE'S ALWAYS PAPPED WITH HIS AND ITS LOADED WITH STUFF
Hahaha I love how you put Machayla in the beginning
Looks thin and cheap. If it were a freezer bag it be worth it but this? Nah
I like baaaaaags and I have a bag too I put things in it like pens and a notebook or sometimes even candid bags are really my style
Yay first
Do we still believe when something shows as “sold out” online especially by an influencer clearly trying to make fake hype?!
She should have come out with ebook cookbooks
The economy is fucked up because of stuff like this.
if you cant afford it don get it. like??? its obviously not for you if you cant afford the $120 dollars, you werent gonna drop that on a tote bag anyway why is this different? EVERYTHING an influencer puts out is a cash grab. you will always find something better and cheaper from somewhere else. the whole novelty from buying something from an influencer is cause you want to support them, not cause youre getting the top notch quality. cause they cant bring that and never will. if even the top brands cut corners and are shady, what makes you think an influencer is any different? they will use the same practices with lower quality for more money thats on you if you purchase it. if you bought it, for $40 or $120, you were ripped off. but dont act like you are seriously affected by this. this isnt some big drama, influencers have been using their fans as cash grabs for years now and thats on you if you thought she was any different. buying anything from an influencer comes with the notion that if you look hard enough you can find the same thing for cheaper. you guys just need something to whine about tbh
@@ll6wd The whole point of my explanation flew right over you lmao you totally didn't get it. I don't even follow this influencer, I don't care about the tote bag. I explained why buying overpriced stuff actually affects the economy.
@@lucycarnaghi8534 this isnt affecting the economy though when there are already literal $3000 tote bags out there she isnt doing anything else to change it. one singular influencer brand that wont last more than 5 years doesnt do a thing. if anything shes proving to people that yiou can always find something for cheaper. the ones who but it, buy it, the ones who dont, dont.
FYI, the LL bean tote is high quality. I remember we had a bunch of them growing up for things like trips to grandmas or even just storage. They held up for a really long time and LL Bean has a really generous policy when it comes to damaged items.
“Demonstrating how to use them”
… a bag. lol.
You should talk about the ceramic mug drama
For $120 dollars that bag better have bluetooth and be waterproof and vibrate.
Preach !!😊
it better carry itself 😭😭
