I‘m Chinese and find it sickening that she essentially says her viewers are xenophobic for calling shein out. It’s very much true that China often gets villainized in the west, but that has NOTHING to do with this situation. This is about a company, not about the entire nation of China. She is using an actual issue that is irrelevant here to make her point seem more legit, it’s pathetic
Especially because she furthers the western idea that products produced in China are bad quality when it’s not… SHIEN IS BAD QUALITY because they exploit their workers
Exactly. Also, I'm not from China but the whole "this trip changed my life, I could see their environment and talk to them" sounds icky to me, like oh look at me I visited this far away foreign country and talked to those people
And they talked to employees on company ground. There is no way for them to be unbiased without fear of losing their job/other consequences (Shein could’ve also threaten to sue to them - who knows).
It's basically her attempt at privilege shaming. Trying to make it seem like Americans are just uninformed and easily manipulated when she's obviously the one being easily manipulated and doesn't know how to do any research or how to remain objective when a company is obviously treating you nicely just to make a buck.
No way, she calls herself a human rights activist and call people racist, because they criticize her painting an awful company in a good light.. Just wow... The nerve!
this is how most people are TBH. Their values are very flimsy and don't hold up to any actual pressure. They are not willing to make even small sacrifices to enact the change they claim is so important to them. They just want to use a trending hashtag and pat themselves on the back. I'm pretty far to the left but I roll my eyes at a lot of young activists because the instant they have a falling out with their group they will do a 180 on their beliefs because it was never about the values and was actually about being part of a movement. If someone in that movement is mean to them or if the opposition offers them enough money they will disintegrate. I've seen it happen like a million times. This is one reason real progress takes multiple generations

It's so gross, I can't even deal.
the fact that the first girl had to physically go to china to realize how propagandized we are told me enough. the followup of her getting propagandized was just the icing on the cake
She can't, with ANY level of self-awareness, call herself an "activist for humanity" and yet openly endorse a company that forces its employees to work 18 hour days with pennies paid per item. She can't in good conscience, call herself an "activist for humanity" and not think to herself that she needs to do some research before going on this "brand trip". But then again, "influencers" don't really ever have much thought behind what they're doing except "How much money will this make me?" In the end, that's all this will be about...money.
What a joke! Her 'activism' is all performative for self grandiosity - she's from a super wealthy privileged family and CLEARLY cares zero for vulnerable less fortunate people but is the first one to accuse others ism offenses
How is this girl an "activist for humanity" if she supports a company that blatantly exploits its poor workers. Sure they don't do "child labor" but the families of these workers hardly see them, probably struggle to get adequate food most certainly don't have any health insurance or benefits. So yeah they don't do "child labor" but their practices most certainly hurt children.
An activist for humanity is SUCH a nothing statement… I want to know exactly what she’s done that is “ activism” she probably posted a black square in 2020 and said her job was done
So happy to say I make my own clothes and have not shopped at stores like H&M or Shein in several years. Honestly once you learn how to work a sewing machine making your own clothing is so fun and empowering because you can make anything to fit you, in any fabric, in any style. and Ngl the stuff I make lasts WAY longer then anything I would buy at the stores.
SHEIN gaslit the shit outta her, and she just parroted all that shit back to her followers. 💀😭 That’s like going up to an alleged murder and being like “ah no I had dinner with him! He was nice! Said he didn’t kill anyone!! Y’all are just tripping!” Of course SHEIN is gonna go above and beyond to hide their gross negligence. If they didn’t, their numbers would drop DRASTICALLY.
Like we’re the opposite of xenophobic. We are concerned for the Chinese workers. We’re against them being exploited. We have an issue with the company, it’s owner and high ups not Chinese ppl. Ffs
Those influencers should all be deeply ashamed of themselves. It’s disgusting what people will do for money. All they did by accepting to go on this brand trip was making people think it’s okay to continue supporting Shein. Of course they showed them the factory that probably looks better than the rest. “I would never in a million years support a company that uses child labor”. I hope she loses a huge amount of support, I am so so ashamed of her. What a fraud.
She's the kind of person who'd go to North Korea and eat up everything they tell her about how perfect and wonderful life us like there. Dani the investigative journalist: out to investigate the unethical practices. Gets paid for trip, presented all the info, heads home saying “all good, nothing else to see here.” Good investigating, girl.
Imagine pretending to be this blind just for a paycheck. There are COUNTLESS brands to work with that aren’t like Shein. I’m so disgusted at that girl trying to blame racism and prejudice on our dislike of Shein. I’m speechless.
Whenever we have visitors in my work, we also make sure we clean everything up and are on our best behavior. It’s almost as if people prepare for things like that. Weird.
Right, I remember when I used to work in an office and we'd get big deal visitors, we'd be told in advanced to remove things from our workspaces and tidy, to dress nicely, etc. The idea that the company wouldn't have done the same is absurd.
People prepare to not lose their jobs. It's only natural to feel at jeopardy if you are not on your best image when visits arrive; and even more if they are going to publicly record and broadcast your work day. Even your normal clothes and attitude can get you in trouble if you do not give the extra performance your boss expects of you. Visits are for marketing and showing-off purposes, so not showing-off can really make you stand out in a bad light; and no one wants to be the guy that "lacks involvement and motivation" for just beign their normal self.
The money has gone to their head, I can’t imagine how much they were really being paid to gaslight their audience into believing fast fashion is good. They seriously cannot believe that type of environment makes thousands of clothes daily?
If you feel guilty for buying clothes from shein please don't just throw them out, it is not the economical or ethical way to deal with this dilemma, instead keep wearing the durable pieces you've got from there until they wear out, and maybe use any badly made ones as fabric scrap for projects
A few months ago Laura Lee & MannyMUA made a live video and Manny slipped and mentioned that Laura’s sponsorship with Shein helped her buy a beach house in Destin Florida and she shut it down quickly and it was obvious she was annoyed with him. Also, her faux 'activism' is all performative for self grandiosity - she's from a super wealthy privileged family and CLEARLY cares zero for vulnerable less fortunate people
her saying that we all have fast fashion in our closets is not the hot take that she thinks it is lmao we have it in our closets because we have no other CHOICE. if we could buy sustainably we could but for a plus sized broke girlie like myself, I cannot afford to buy $100 dress when i barely make enough to feed myself. she’s the problem and so are all the influencers filming their big hauls from fast fashion when they have the $$$ to make sustainable purchases.

This has opened my eyes even further. This is disgusting and inhumane. I am done with these fast fashion companies and those who support them. The quote; "we all know where these cloths end up" is so true. I've embarrassingly admit, I ordered from there a few times, and every time I was disappointed! I kept thinking, it most be the pieces I ordered because it felt like EVERYONE was bragging about these great affordable pieces they got, so I ordered twice more, only to be disappointed again. Quality over quanity, ALL THE TIME for me. I am unsubscribing from these influencers. There's zero integrity anymore. It's all about them getting paid off of our ignorance, and yet, we keep supporting them like dummies. Not I..
Everyone’s gonna have their own opinions, but it doesn’t sit right with me how SHEIN paid influencers astronomical amounts of money to promote their business yet can’t even give their employees the bare minimum 🤮
What made me cringe, was when she acted like people were worried that the influencers they worked with were being underpaid. Nope, that's not who we're worried about.
It's cheaper to pay off a few people handsomely than probably hundreds of thousands better living conditions, and that's the only thing Shein cares about
My mom worked in one of these factories growing up where it was 2 cents per piece of cloth sewed together. I remember getting off of school and my brother, sister and I would help her or spend our evenings there just so she could finish. By the end of the day, there would be dust inside of our nose and ears. That’s why I refuse to buy from companies like she in 😞
I'm from the States and worked in China for a shoes manufacturer and when I got to visit the actual manufacturing lines, the conditions were so poor that I could not focus on anything but the human beings in front of me being abused with long hours, unrealistic productivity goals, super low wages, forced to live on campus and costs deducted from their meager salary. I still remember their faces and the children who were living there with their parents. It pushed me into a depression and I left that job as soon as I could. My spouse is Chinese, and I love China and the Chinese people. But, not telling the truth about what goes on there when it comes to labor and basic human rights abuses is a disservice to the kind souls who treated me as one of their own while I was there.
“There’s a narrative fed to us in the US” yes and they’re selling a narrative to you and you bought it, hook, line and sinker. These influencers gives me the ick. 🙄
Listening to this video is giving me MAJOR EYE ROLL 🙄 to sit there and say you investigate and get all the facts is insane, knowing you only seen what they wanted you to see. They put a contract in front of you and now “they’re the best company, seen with my own two eyes” yes you got to see China for free 🤦🏽♀️ Sad
Love how she starts her response to all the very valid criticism with video proof with " stope telling me to kill myself" the victim and gaslighting cards are way to strong
I rarely ever buy fast fashion and when I do buy, I make sure the pieces are going to be worn for as long as possible. I can't understand how people can trend hop and be so wasteful. People need to realize we don't need all these material goods and that it's okay to repeat outfits!
I only buy jeans off Fashion Nova because they actually fit my body shape and I usually can keep them a long time, and I try to not buy too often either
I havent grown much since I was 13, and I literally still use a lot of H&M and Zara clothing to this day, that I have gotten back in the day. (I am 23, size wise using the same as when I was 13, except where bust size matters…) After 10 years, one of my favourite shirts are those I had for the longest. You can buy fast fashion (especially when you are young and broke) but make sure you buy stuff you are actually going to use. If handled with care, timeless pieces, even if cheap in material, should be good to be used for atleast 4-5 years.
@@CamilaOliveira-yh4ut to my defense I didn’t know Zara is a fast fashion company😭 because in my country their price range is in the higher side and their store locations are only in big cities and big shopping malls. Yes and as if it wasn't bad enough, Dan is a very entitled from a super wealthy privileged family yet spouts performative activism as if she cares about less fortunate people, i.e. it's all for clout and self promotion. Truly vile person
If she’s so buddy buddy with them why not say “hey SHEIN, I think a great vlog series would be if I came to visit all your factories!” Let’s see how they feel about that & let’s see how her opinion changes.
That's basically a PR factory. Designed and presented as an ethical workplace. But we ALL(including these sellouts/influencers) know that Shein did not dominate the "fashion" industry in such a short amount of time by utilising ethical business practices or working conditions. It's disgusting that these ppl can afgord sustainable clothing but decided to sell their souls for the most predatory fast-fashion conglomerate in existence.
“I met with the people getting rich off of the suffering of others and got paid while I was basically lied to. Don’t worry guys, I’m like, an expert now!” I feel like her SHEIN content is the perfect example of performative activism. Her words are chosen so carefully it actually makes me sick. Then she has the nerve to call people xenophobic? Is she that dense? I genuinely can’t believe it.
I feel like not only are influencers responsible but so is the consumer. Whether it's shein clothes, car parts, or food, over consuming is the real issue here and we as consumers need to be responsible with waste. So ppl need to also be responsible and make sure before they spend they really tell themselves "am i really going to wear this or is it just a good price that is enticing me." Don't get me wrong when I was younger it was easier to say yes to trying different fashion trends but now that I am older I've realized we all take part in taking care of our planet and helping our communities. It's all a learning curve and we are all learning to shop smarter:)
I lived in China for 2 years and friends of mine worked at factories. They told me that many companies will have one factory that people tour through that looks much nicer and the conditions look good, but the others aren't like that at all
Those influencers cannot possibly be that naive. Shein takes them to a “showroom” and either treats those employees better than the rest or the employees know never to speak against the brand out of fear for their jobs. Also saying they didn’t get paid for the trip when Shein obviously paid airfare, hotel, expenses, etc. is another lie.
If all these so called Anti Shein are "human rights" advicate. Are they even aware theres growth of migrant child labor in the United States over the past several years is a result of a chain of willful ignorance. Why not they do something about their country's problem first instead.
So an influencer is called out for selling out to a dodgy af fast fashion brand and they clap back by calling people who are holding them accountable xenophobes? Yikes
That first creator literally sounds like a brand mouthpiece- could not even wrap my mind around how you could claim these conditions are simply rumor and propaganda amidst so much evidence
"90% of the clothes in your closet are made it horrible conditions." SO SAY SOMETHING. CALL THEM OUT ON IT! that's the point of this! Don't let them buy your support. 😭😭
I love how that was her defense. She debunked her own pov immediately because if she points that out as hypocrisy… wouldn’t that mean shes defending horrible conditions as well(Shein conditions) ????????? pea brain
The girl literally said, that factory is where the samples are made before they go to the manufacturing factories, they should be taken there, not the fancy place. So ridiculous.
Oh my god this is vile! Yay let's all take a trip to the sweatshop! How disgusting! Oh and don't forget the blatant lack or worker rights and art theft!
ngl thrift stores make shein clothes more expensive than what is was originally. Fast fashion is bad but thrift stores dont make it easier. Even on mercari and Offerup people overprice their fast fashion pieces like crazy its not fair
also once an influencer attacks back and gets defensive that's when you know that they are getting called out by the truth and they know it but you know how these influencers don't like getting called out and admitting the truth 🙄😒
How can you be so insanely out of touch blows my mind. Did she think they were going to show her the kids being exploited to make her shitty clothes? Like what was she expecting? They're paying her to do their dirty work for them and clean their image
it's like when travel influencers go to Xinjiang and their gov minders take them on a very strict tour and make locals prance around for them so they'll turn to the camera and tell their audience "there's no genocide happening to the Uyghurs, see? they're dancing!" it's gross.
I am very into secondhand shopping, and I have noticed a huge recent increase of SHEIN clothing in thrift stores. Even if something is cute, I'm always concerned about the quality and the reason it was donated in the first place. Plus SHEIN clothes are already so cheap to begin with, that it doesn't hit the same as finding something vintage/high quality/designer for an insane bargain price in a thrift shop. And while this is sometimes true of other affordable/fast fashion brands, the ones that have been around for longer used to make clothes with the intention of being worn more than once in a single try on haul, so you might still find, say a perfectly decent pair of GAP jeans that was produced 20+ years ago
Of course "@itsdanidmc" could care less about these factory workers. Her parents are millionaires and help fund her lifestyle. Her father is Bruce Carbonari, former chairman and CEO of Fortune Brands.
As a Chinese who used to work in China, I can barely find any jobs that offer 2 days off per week, and that is the normal for most of the Chinese. Most of the workers have only 1 day off per week. Unless you work in the government owned institutions, most of the private owned companies were forced to compete with each other and that’s why most of the ppl only get 1 day off.
Yes SHEIN is bad and this doesn’t excuse what they do but why does nobody talk about the Nike, Louis Vuitton (basically big name brands) that use the same tactics? Sweatshops and unfair labor is a part of more brands than we realize, everyone needs to be accountable fr
I will literally never buy another silk shein headscarf for cheap again. I'd rather pay an extra few dollars than support a business that actively and maliciously victimizes workers.
@@BarronVonU I love etsy! I'm not even worried about it being vintage or special honestly, just something of at least moderate quality that will protect my hair.
At this point I just have all my clothes tailor made. Last longer and much better fit and materials since I can choose the fabric. I live in Vietnam so that’s a privilege, tailor made goods here are cheaper than fast fashion brands (Zara, H&M, Shein etc). I feel so blessed to be able to afford to support local seamstresses and wish people from all over the world can experience the same thing.
Her response when getting called out was essentially: “I know myself, I know more than you, and don’t be racist against China.” lol. Their best argument is to always gaslight and bring out the racist / -phobic card. 😂
Not only that, her 'activism' is all performative for self grandiosity - she's from a super wealthy privileged family and CLEARLY cares zero for vulnerable less fortunate people
Sinophobia is a very real issue but comparing her shein influencer trip to Chinese workers working at dehumanising environment is honestly beyond ignorant 🙄
The fact that she is working with SHEIN even with the amount of evidence of shein overworking their employees and other horrible things and she calls them RUMORS is in insane to me
I feel bad for the workers cuz it’s disgusting inviting influencers to the factory to see the reality of fast clothing. I hope they get paid for the poor workers😢
As someone who is half Chinese and has family in China, I love how this girl took one trip there and is like y'all don't know anything. I personally have never been there, but my family says that it is not great. My uncle briefly moved there for his job and would complain about how conservative people are, the government, and how people drive. This girl is acting like she knows everything about China just from taking a trip there. When if you actually did research about the country it literally sucks.
@@Madynes.musing people who make money from media is what they did. They specifically targeted these women because they r in the minority. They manipulated them thinking they r special to shein and it’s company causing them to fall for the money, contract and trip period they picked the minorities because they thought that that would allow for less backlash like what ur doing rn defending the company by saying it’s the influencers fault or if someone went against this trip someone else can state that well they are being inclusive to minorities. This is a huge marketing tactic and u need to realise these big company’s choose the influencers specifically for their own monitory gain and not because they care about them or the minority group. This is extremely common everywhere in the world. They could have picked any influencer but they chose them because no1 they are a minority and no2 they gain money from try on hauls and are “activists” (even tho we have been proven they are not actually) so it was easy for them to manipulate them into thinking wow we are getting a real tour of the factory even though this infact is one out of 1000s of factories owned and operated by them. Then thinking they r getting a real tour and them thinking they r special for getting a dinner with the ceo is why they chose this and we need to hold the companies manipulation accountable whilst criticising the influencers not saying the company isn’t in the wrong when they r clearly equally as weong
Ahmmm are we not going to talk about shein stole designs from small businesses 🤧 arghhh i don't know how can she blatantly said that she's 100% transparent even tho there's underlying issues ??? yo girl istaphhh
I have never bought from Shein, and I have always encouraged my friends not to as well. I try to shop as ethically as I can. I'm not perfect, but I've gotten more aware. The women employees at Shein factories were washing their hair in the bathroom sinks on their lunch breaks because they had no days off to maintain basic hygiene. They found that workers were penalized two-thirds of their daily wage for making one mistake on a piece of clothing. Even if you know fast fashion is produced unethically, Shein has a much greater impact than some of the other fast fashion companies. Between Shein, Zara, H&M, and Boohoo Shein puts out the most styles. More styles equals more unethical treatment and waste.
There’s a HUGE difference between buying fast fashion because it’s all someone can really afford (because let’s be real- sustainable is way too expensive) and outwardly supporting and promoting a terrible brand and company when you CAN afford better. I’m honestly glad the creators are being called out.
Shein is one of the largest companies in the world at this point. They have the money to build a factory at which tours can be hosted, similarly to how North Korea takes tourists to places that have been carefully curated and artificially prepared. And I'm saying this as someone who lived in China for an entire year and loved it there. I got so heated when she claimed "you've never been there". Some of us have, and not on pre-arranged tours. I agree with her about travel broadening our perspective. I disagree that this has anything to do with an unethical company. Also, having clothes in our closets that are made unethically is completely different than promoting a company to hundreds of thousands or millions of followers. Independent purchases do not equal such - for lack of a better word - *influence*.
She’s talking about how all of the clothes were done by machines, but that’s because their workers complained, so instead of giving them better pay and working conditions they fire them and replace them with machines.
It's so easy to just show the good side, of course they wouldn't show us the abusive labor, the employees that don't get pay enough, the suburban factories, of course they wouldn't show us the ugly true, just the beautiful lie
I followed Dani for a long time - this has been a real disappointment. Plus size women have very few options for cute and trendy clothing, so I get the appeal of Shein, but we should be using our platforms to push more sustainable companies to make better options for us. Or at the very least be critical about what these companies are doing.
I learned a lot from all the beauty influencers all their scandals. Thank god I now know better. Not to follow the advice of any influencers or anyone that entertains this sort of pattern and behavior no brand trips. No sponsorships I just do my own research and I buy what I personally think it’s best. If I can’t return something I don’t buy it.
When you're partnered, legally bound ("I signed a deal with them"), and in the pocket of a company you literally cannot be considered a 'free thinker'. It reminds me of those people who are given special tours of North Korea, where they only see shiny happy citizens and are only allowed to take pics of what the government wants them to see. One second she says she was paid well, then later she says she wasn't paid at all. Girl. "you have no right to say anything because you probably own some fast fashion" is a - textbook - example of flawed logic. I can't stand vapid, self-absorbed, virtue signaling social media influencers.
Wow that influencer is delusional!! End of story. I know it for a fact as I have a degree in fashion production been to factories around the world and the way Shein works is unethical. H&M is already used as an example of an unethical company imagine where people in the industry categorise Shein 😂
buying shien when they obviously have the money to shop sustainably is so gross

I'm pretty far to the left but I roll my eyes at a lot of young activists because the instant they have a falling out with their group they will do a 180 on their beliefs because it was never about the values and was actually about being part of a movement.
Exactly everyone does that LMAOOO
Exactly! everyone has a price
If you feel guilty for buying clothes from shein please don't just throw them out, it is not the economical or ethical way to deal with this dilemma, instead keep wearing the durable pieces you've got from there until they wear out, and maybe use any badly made ones as fabric scrap for projects

Performative activism has the sense of at least trying to pretend that you're actually on the right side. This is full mask off
I feel like not only are influencers responsible but so is the consumer.
“ to make her shitty clothes “ !!!!!!!! Ahhhhhh tew good 🤭
I am very into secondhand shopping, and I have noticed a huge recent increase of SHEIN clothing in thrift stores.
"I will never work with a brand that uses child labor" Ok cool, but what about the adults who are getting exploited?

Do you know if it's the same for the things like decoration?
The only thing I really know about Shein is that it's basically the fashion version of Wish.
It's the same thing, ebay, Amazon, shein, zaful have identical items
Her price to sell herself was so cheap! Shame on her..
This makes me so angry. The ignorance and privilege these creators have. Disgusting.
She’s talking about how all of the clothes were done by machines, but that’s because their workers complained, so instead of giving them better pay and working conditions they fire them and replace them with machines.
props for another amazing video!
Well said.
If other companies offer plus size clothing, Shien probably wouldn’t be making money.
