I called it just over a month ago, when people were claiming that Rashford is Southgate's favourite player and that he always picks him because he often plays well for England:
"Apart from costing us Euro 2020, what exactly has Rashford done for England?"
"Rashford has been poor for most of the last seven years and particularly awful since March of last year and is getting worse!"
"People have got the impression that Southgate loves Rashford so much that he always starts him but that just isn't true."
"Yes, he's nearly always put him in the squad but in the four major tournaments Rashford's been to, he's only started two games in total (one of those was a dead rubber) and he's only started six England games since October 2020!"
"I really don't think Southgate will take him if everyone is fit."

Marcus Rashford being left out of the England squad for the EUROs, it doesn’t come as a surprise to anybody. Even if he wasn’t injured, he still wouldn’t make the squad. Gareth Southgate has come under criticism for picking his favorites over the ones who are in form, but he made the right call in leaving Rashford out of the squad. For the entire season, he just hasn’t been good enough. Even though Manchester United as a whole have struggled this season, Rashford has been out of form as well and team performance doesn’t help, but the player has to be more accountable and responsible for his performances instead of coming up with excuses and blaming the fans for why he hasn’t played well. Having a season where you scored just 8 goals altogether after scoring 30 goals 12 months ago, that’s a massive downgrade in performance and isn’t he one of the highest paid players in the premier league earning more money than some actual world class players. It’s not just about his lack of output, it’s very obvious that he doesn’t do anything on the field, he’s walking being lazy not tracking back or helping the team.
There’s been a lack of professionalism and decision making outside of the pitch as he has been dropped from the squad on multiple occasions due to breaching disciplinary rules getting caught going to nightclubs and parties and he’s wasting his career with this sort of behavior as well. This isn’t the attitude of a player that a manager would want to take to the EUROs. It’s not just him being left out of the England squad for the EUROs, his future at Manchester United is uncertain with the fans having enough of his laziness and inconsistency and they want him to be sold immediately. Is he capable of bounding back, absolutely, he just needs to get his head in the right place or maybe he needs a change in scenery and environment like leaving Manchester United in the summer.

Mark's colleagues all stick to the same script that says Rashford was the best player in the world for the whole of last season and that this season is just a blip in what has otherwise been the greatest career any player has ever had in the history of football!
Rashford has been poor for the vast majority of the last seven years and particularly awful for just about every minute of the last 14 months and I just don't know what it will take to make those who matter realise that he has no business playing for United or England ever again!
*I do take slight issue with the term "incredible run of form". He played well in about 10 games, most of which were against poor sides.
