will Apple Vision Pro kill the iPad?

- After spending nearly 2 months with the new Apple Vision Pro and with new iPad Pro, iPad Air and more coming basically next month... I've been contemplating the question: will Vision Pro or more so visionOS eventually kill off the iPad Pro or iPad in general? On the surface they appear completely different, but in practice they accomplish a lot of the same things like media consumption, gaming, productivity and more. In this video, we compare the two platforms to see if we can uncover if this is truly in Apple's spatial computing future gameplan. Also massive shoutout to Anker for making this video possible with their Anker iPad hub products, which help you MACximize your Creativity!

Personal opinion, The Vision Pro will replace monitors, rather than actual products. The days of "cable management, HDMI Cables, TB4 Docks" are numbered. I see VisionOS evolving to be the ultimate "infinite monitor" workflow. I can see Apple opening the VisionOS monitor functionality to Windows Desktops/laptops giving gamers the ultimate 4K 300Hz+ experience. The iPad, iPhone and Mac will aways be around. After see the Vision Pro + Mac combo, I'm convinced that monitors and cables are going to be phased out within 5 years.
love your take! :)
5 years is not a realistic take, though. I can see this happening, but in the next five years all we will get is a new model of Vision Pro and a couple major software updates for it. If your scenario is correct, which it isn't btw because of eye safety (spending 7 hours in front of a monitor 40-50cm away is not the same as spending 7 hours with a screen a couple of cms from each eye), a plausible time span is 10 years or so.. By then, replacing monitors partially will be possible in some contexts where using a Vision Pro would be useful and not just a gimmick. The real applications for these types of technology will be, in my humble opinion, augmented reality in real time, with devices not bigger than glasses and with real information provided in our field of view whenever needed. Pulling up a calendar in the right corner of our field of view is what we really need and could use. I'd give these applications 10-15 years to get developed and properly hit the market. For now, the best thing you can do with a Vision Pro is watching movies. To be clear, I feel like it's a great leap forward, but until we'll be able to actually see through the headset it won't ever, ever ever ever, replace monitors or be mass-distributed.
The Vision Pro is better for your eyes than a traditional monitor. the screens may be a few centimeters from your face but your brain perceives it to be 4-6 feet away (focal distance). So your eyes should have less fatigue and should improve your vision over time if you are looking at things up close. @@jack_2612
Nobody wants to wear googles! The futur is retinian projection
I vaguely remember mention of Vision Pro when you have prescription glasses. How does this go with your vision requirements in regards to prescription?
After about 3 weeks with the Vision Pro, I hadnt hardly used my iPad. I ended up trading it in. There's about 2 apps I regularly use that arent available yet for Vision Pro, so I just use my phone for them. Haven't really missed the iPad but I understand that may not work for everyone.
I think for a very select demographic, this very well could replace their iPad, computer, and eventually even their phone. However for the general public as long as the iPad iPhone and Mac’s are more affordable than the Vision Pro, it won’t replace anything at all large scale
WHAT IPHONE CASE DO YOU USE! THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR REPLYING....
your videos are amazing
One of the things that I don’t like about the Google type augmented reality is the ‘unsafe’ feeling I get, blocked off from my surroundings. It looks here like you’re still able to see your surroundings live?
I think you nailed it though. And I can’t see myself wearing that out in public😏
I got a Meta Quest 3 coz of all the hype Apple created in MR/VR... and it totally replaced my iPad... instead of picking up my iPad for CZcams and X... also for web browsing while watching CZcams/Meta Socials like Insta, WhatsApp, FB, Messenger ... and also for Netflix ... Movies via HDMI to my TV... same with VPN for BBC iPlayer and UK ITV... also use it for a screen for my Mac... so... totally killed my use for the iPad, I can't imagine how good the VP is for iPad replacement... HMD's are awesome!
You mentioned something about a teleprompter app (?) at the beginning, maybe "A roll" or something like that?
This 1st generation AVP pro wont kill the iPad, but in a few more generations of AVP when it’s smaller lighter more comfortable with better battery life, more useful polished complete software and more affordable for mass market sale, then it will replace many devices
I truly believe that the Vision Pro is the iPad's replacement. It's just a matter of time and price. Apple abandoned the iPad a while ago and the Mac has become very good... AVP is the future of the iPad.
I personally don’t see myself buying a pair of Vision Pros to be honest, I’m not a VR/AR person and find these headsets so uncomfortable. I love tech but these AR/VR googles concern me a lot. And I love my iPad
I don’t plan on buying another iMac or iPad. I’m saving up for Apple vision
Vision Pro will never be my bag… love my iPad Pro 12.9 cellular “non M chip”, hoping the next version in May gives me a reason to upgrade…;) I enjoy the iPads form factor tbh
get a Meta Quest 3 ... is the same and is amazing.. it replaced my iPad needs....
I still can’t believe that for this price they didn’t give us a single USB-C port! 😠
11:00 me Meta Quest 3 has an USB-C ... I loaded the 512GB Quest 3 with movie files from my Mac!!! go Android File Transfer!!!
It needs to get A LOT cheaper first. I hope it doesn’t cannibalise iPad sales, iPads are great
Vision Pro is at least five years away from being viable and probably longer. Tablets will be around for years to come.
could you elaborate a bit? I know where the minority of the minority but it’s been viable for me since getting it lunch weekend… My issue with it now is purely curiosity based for how long I can go and how far I can go without like my satchel or something for example… I’m looking for easy slipping in a pocketable power banks to just put in the various like side leg pockets in my Carhartt pants of which already fit nicely the Vision Pro battery but I basically wear it all thbut I basically wear it all the time most of the day if not all of the day and all of the night again pure research based science reasons mostly curiosity lol but I’ve taken a nap in it and slept in at my not trying to set a record, record lol is 50 hours plus the most important thing is to find your proper size it might take a few tries. I was lucky that all three of my scans were not only identical, but apparently correct some people got different scans different sizes each time, but ultimately found their size battery life and extending battery life since I’m not or lighter, but finding that comfort in the light seal makes all the difference adjusting the solo knit up and down, which is a little different every day small price to pay for the experience which I love you know ADHD or otherwise lol the weight disappears and you forget you’re looking through cameras and at least I’ve grown to love it more than I already did definitely recommend everybody go at least do the free demo and help pull the trigger 14 day moneyback guarantee
excuse the typos I did this with voice to text through Vision Pro lol and also I don’t know why can’t edit CZcams comments on safari in Vision Pro hopefully, the CZcams app is worth the wait
🍏
Some iPads still have a fairly reasonable price. I would be worried about the APPLE VISION AIR.
Naw I don’t want something on my head constantly I like having my iPad playing in the background with AirPods in while being productive. Unless it becomes glasses with screens in it maybe it can be a alternative but I still prefer actual screens when it comes to editing etc
The next Vision Pro with all the features will come an M4 chip and skip M3 chip just like it skipped the M1 chip
I ain’t gonna give up my iPad!!! 😂
16:30 Meta Quest 3 is brighter than the VP!!! Go Quest!
I think it could in most situations. I didn’t shell out the money for the AVP but I did buy a Quest 3, and I just realized last night was the first time I’ve picked up my iPad in two weeks when I used to use it every day.
The inception was 2015 not 2018
This is a great comparison video. I do find my usage of my iPad Pro has changed a bit. The Apple Vision Pro is so much better for video and some games that I’ve switched over to it for those use cases, even away from my AppleTV (unless it’s social viewing). For productivity use cases, I think of the AVP as a “desktop iOS” device like a Mac Mini and my iPad Pro more like a laptop now. I can get almost all of my work work done with iPad apps, and the ability to keep multiple apps open around me increases productivity, much like having a bigger monitor is a boost to productivity from a smaller laptop screen.
I don’t think half of the customers want to put heavy binoculars on their head to view the internet…not for everyone.
Reductive way of viewing the Vision Pro. This is literal Tony Stark tech, available today. I for one use it daily and it’s become the center of my Apple ecosystem.
Not yet.
We used to say the same about smartphones. “Why would we want to view the internet on such a small display when we can use our computers with 20+ inch display?”
And now most customers would use our phones more to browse the internet.
it wont thats the conclusion
Unless vision pro can become 700 or 900 then no
How many iPads can you currently buy for the price of the Apple Vission "Pro"?
I haven't touched my iPad Pro since getting the Vision Pro, and I think you make some really good points. Another great video - and I'm really enjoying your Vision Pro content!
Replacement… I don’t know. But I do hope that the inspiration visionOS got from the iPadOS will vitalize iPads as well again. Apple will but a lot of resources in visionOS so hopefully we will see some good stuff on iPadOS as well. :)
no it wont cause this product is way too expensive for anyone. not alot of people can afford it
iPad Pro did not have its inception in 2018
i shoulda said "since its massive refresh" in 2018 to be more clear ;) i also said 2015 around 15:30 so i know my stuff 😂❤️
No cuz im not wearing that all day the 12.9 be on period💕 love me a big 4:3 screen🥰
Apple Vision Pro will NEVER kill iPad. I love my iPad.
I need a new iPad Pro
I don’t think it will, and if it will it’s not gonna happen until a lot of years pass by
we'll have to see :)
Since I pads don't cost over 3000 dollars and you can cast to a TV with an Apple TV, I think they will be ok...for now.
Noaah 😃
My iPad feels like a caveman toy by comparison. The headset has dev to go over the years for more mass adoption, but no way the experience it gives isn’t going to keep going to become more the norm until one day simple screens will be the new rotary phone
People out here thinking they are going to keep using the phones they know today for the rest of existence except maybe what… fold 😂.. are hilarious
I don’t agree about people replacing the phone with the headset or glasses. Some things will always be done better on zoom phone especially taking photos and videos (go frame your picture with your head…). And having a device on your head all day long is not really that great…
Don’t getvme wrong it looks like a great device that i can’t wait to test but it is the iPads or the macbook airs that it is more likely to replace in the future
Reaction before watching the video:
How is this even a comparison? The iPad pro 12.9 fully maxed with everything including applecare+ on top of it is $3026. The vision pro is a whole 500 dollars more while also needing another (mac) device that costs at least 1000 brand new to be useful. I really don't think anyone thinking of buying the VP will be swayed the other way by the existence of the iPad pro
Reaction after watching the video:
The title of the video is insanely clickbaity, because you answer your own question in the second half of the video. There realistically is no comparison to be made between the iPad as a model Apple sells and the VP. Again, even a fully maxed out iPad pro with every accessory apple offers you on the way to you adding it to your cart adds up to less than the VP. The vast majority of people aren't going to be buying a 2TB configuration of the iPad let alone add EVERYTHING for this for this comparison to be valid. Because the vast majority won't, it makes the whole "kill" the iPad thing obsolete. The only thing capable of rendering the 12.9 inch iPad pro "dead" is a 12.9 inch air. Otherwise they will remain two distinct product lines
if you use this thing everyday... you begin to realize where it overlaps with the iPad :) it's a valid question, less so short-term and more so longterm!
@@NoahHermanif you use it everyday, one lasts you around 4x the time and allows you to take notes quickly by hand. It feels like comparing the iPad to the apple watch.
@@messicomps344 are we likening the Vision Pro to the Apple Watch?? 😅
@@NoahHerman it's hyperbole
@@messicomps344 i can see that but it still doesn't make sense (to meat least haha)
Vision Pro is 🗑️ waste of 💰
Tablets didn't destroy laptops and Laptops didn't destroy desktops.
TV didn't kill radio and radio didn't kill live music.
Streaming didn't destroy traditional television.
So no the vision pro won't kill ipads.
Def not that’s why I returned it
Probably 10 years away, until the technology can have this power level in a normal sunglasses form factor, it wont replace it. VR has been around for quite some time, not everyone is even remotely interested in having that huge thing on your head.
I used to have no interest of VR until I bought quest 2
No way man this might be the most niche product of all time
If you found out how many people have bought Meta Quest. It is pretty good as a product lines that have only been for 3 to 5 years
I’d say it won’t , first the price is ridiculous & second it looks dumb asf
It’s more likely that iPads kill the Apple Vision Pro.
In a word. No.
