Last year in religion class we had to chose a song that represents violence. So I chose this song because it fits so perfectly and has so many important lines. I translated the whole song (I live in Germany) and my teacher was so impressed by Marina and the whole song. So thats how I made a 39 year old man who isn't able to speak fluent english obsessed with Marina.

Things like equalrights, demokraties and the fight against pooverty are all more ore less new concepts unimagineble hundreds ore even tens of years ago. Humanity should try to make itself better. I love Marina's style of writing lyrics: they're very straightforward (no deciphering necessary, well, maybe some), yet really effective.
If she writes all the lyrics its amazing to have talent like her, she is such a presence as well. This song is timeless. Wales is a little hub of culture. Never underestimate the Welsh. Look how how hard their football team punch above their weight.

This may just be me, but I kind of prefer Savages over To Be Human. Savages may be more abstract about human conflict and all of that bad stuff which comes with humans but To Be Human is trying to say something more by referencing modern groups of people and locations in the world but ends up saying less.

Can we please talk about Marina's deep lyrics? Honestly, I think that's what really draws me to her songs. Her voice is amazing, the beat is always catchy, and the vibe of the song is amazing as well. But the lyrics. Goddamn the lyrics, that's what really got me hooked. It has happened multiple times with Marina's songs. If I don't particularly like it at first, but the lyrics are beautifully written, I will listen to it over and over again. (Then I start loving the song as a whole meaning the tune, melody, beat, vibe, music...)

Agreed I got a lot of leverage from electra heart when listening to the lyrics. This song is more relevant than ever. It’s 2024 and we need to see a stop to the violence that only seems to have got worse in the last decade.
Marina is a powerhouse of modern storytelling. She genuinely changed my outlook on the world with this album - and this song, in particular is almost a grounding element in my life.
Do you ever just listen to a song and wish you could get every single person in the world to listen to that song just because you think that one song could change the world? This is that song. It manages to always put my thoughts about this terrifying world into one song. It pains me how underrated Marina and the Diamonds is, she is a true talent. I wish this was the kind of music that was in the charts.

As a non-believer I can assure that people are killing for money and power and not really cause of religion. Religion is, however, a really good tool to control people and make them kill for you and it's been found out very early therefore most religions have been altered a lot throughout the history to suit those who are in power so they could manipulate masses to reach their means. Nowadays, you don't even need religion for the same goals since people discovered and mastered propaganda in 1910s-1930s and war evolved into hybrid warfare that we have now where brainwash can be achieved via modern information and communication tools. There are many factors that divide and can be used to control people, not just religion.

This particular lyric in the song interested me and stopped me in my tracks because there's so much craziness in the world today: the pandemic because certain people do not want to listen to science; the war in Ukraine, Iran's revolution. And some people are just killing each other in the name of their religion when it says not to.

All her discography is so deep and significative, you just have to think more in the lyrics, instead of thinking "Oh, in Primadonna and Hollywood she just want to be powerfull and succesful, no matter what"

My mother still cries over the people she knows who died or now suffer severe PTSD. It was a tragedy that now brings together the city.
