    Relight and depth map in Davinci Resolve. I imagine this will improve over time, but is currently pretty good when color grading certain scenarios. Subtle moves work well. Another crazy tool in a crazy world.

    You had me at hello. Another perfect video from the best channel on youtube for the modern film maker. I always looked enviously at what lightworks could do in terms of being able to break apart and isolate the image elements. These tools in davinci are fantastic and given how AI will easily make sense of an image like this, it seems pretty clear that this should be a pretty standard way of capturing and working on images. Assuming the capturing images will actually be necessary. Thx again.

  • @JimRobinson-colors
    @JimRobinson-colors Před rokem +4

    Relight tool should be split up where you get the surface map and then cache the node and then feed it into another node with the first relight into input 2 and the image into input 1 and then change the surface dropdown to input 2- then you can pick any light and move it around and it will respond a lot better because the surface map is already cached and set, so all the heavy lifting is done in the first node.

      @@BlaineWestropp1
      I think you misunderstood. I wasn't describing a feature request. I was explaining how you were applying the plug-in incorrectly - the way I explained it might be at fault.
      Maybe this is clearer.
      In DaVinci Resolve 18.5, the caching and processing of the surface map in the Relight OFX plugin can be separated across different nodes using the following steps:
      Create a node where you apply the Relight OFX plugin to the clip. This node will be responsible for generating and caching the surface map.
      In the Inspector panel, locate the settings for the Relight OFX plugin. Look for an option related to caching or generating the surface map. This option may vary depending on the specific plugin you're using.
      Enable or activate the caching option for the surface map in the plugin settings. This will ensure that the surface map is calculated and stored in the cache.
      Add another node downstream from the Relight node. This node will be used for the actual relighting operations.
      Connect the output of the Relight node (with the cached surface map) to the input of the new node.
      In the new node, adjust the parameters of the Relight OFX plugin to perform the desired relighting operations. Since the surface map has already been cached, the relighting calculations will be applied to the cached data, which can enhance performance and efficiency.
      By separating the caching and actual relighting operations into different nodes, you can optimize the processing workflow in DaVinci Resolve 18.5. This approach allows you to generate the surface map once and reuse it across multiple nodes for relighting, reducing the computational load and improving efficiency during editing and grading

    • @BlaineWestropp1
      @BlaineWestropp1  Před 10 měsíci +1

      yes I have experienced that too. I am hoping over time it improves, but this is why I have been exploring shooting footage with the lowest possible noise I can get (some of my most recent videos) as I feel like features like this will work better with perfectly clean footage. that being said, to reduce flickering you really need to fine tune your settings, and make sure you are making subtle moves to the different layers. the bigger the moves, the more issues you will encounter.
