Einstein did not use Minkowski spacetime to create his theory of special relativity. He treated time as a separate entity from spatial dimensions. The spacetime model was proposed several years after he published.
Although spacetime is the most popular conceptual tool for describing relativity, it has been largely incompatible with quantum mechanics which emerged decades later. And the recent LIGO interferometer observations have shown a surprising lack of the distortion one would expect to see if gravity waves were traveling through warped space.
In short, utilization or "belief" in relativity is not dependent on a literalization of the spacetime manifold model. Feel free to follow my link in the video description (George) if you want to know more.

Science must be a continuous process of doubt and validation. As we make new discoveries and more refined observations, we always need to be open to the idea of finding the next more true theory even if we must admit we were mistaken previously. Even the most outlandish idea may lead, even if indirectly, to a new discovery.

    • @steveblack8017
      @steveblack8017 Před 7 měsíci +1

He believes it because he doesn't want to admit he's wrong, that's literally true for every flat earther. There is so much evidence the earth is not flat and NO EVIDENCE the earth is flat. They say "pictures of a round earth are photoshopped" meanwhile they don't have a single photograph of a flat earth, they're all DRAWN plus they're all illustrated DIFFERENTLY, they can't even agree on the same idea of what a flat earth would be, they illustrate countries being in completely illogical places, like we have planes you know? We can visually see where countries are on the earth. They are hypocrites. It's so incredibly simple to prove it too, without even thinking, travel in one direction and you'll return to where you started. But not a single one wants to do this. There's a documentary from a few years ago where flat earthers use a lazer to prove the earth is flat, it proves the earth is not flat and you know what they do? They admit they were wrong. LOL NOT, they say they must have made an error in the testing. Also the "travel in one direction" thing I mentioned earlier, a guy in the documentary said he's got the funding to do it, it's been multiple years since the doco and guess how long it took him to the do the trip around the world? Oh he didn't, because he knows it'll prove him wrong and my first point in this comment was they don't want to admit they're wrong, so they're obviously not gonna do a test that they cannot lie themselves out of when it prove the earth is not flat.

As someone who dipped my toes into those ideas, I think it's 80% distrust for the government and 20% distrust for scientific hubris. A very large amount of what we consider to be 'facts' about space comes from people that are not credible or trustworthy. A common theme is that there is something either in space or "beneath Antarctica" which is so valuable or powerful that the government misrepresented space in order to access it. Another is that aliens project space onto a dome or bubble around us. I came around to the idea because while pursuing my degree, I learned that a lot of concepts about space that are accepted as fact are based entirely on mathematics that can't be tested or verified. I also learned that a lot of the things we consider to be 'tested and verified' are actually very inconsistent in observations.
My go to example is that we accept it as a fact that the speed of light is a constant. and all of our measurements of the distance to and composition of objects in space rely on the assumption that the speed of light is a constant. Yet in reality, every single test that has ever attempted to measure the speed of light had yielded a distinct and different value. We have actually never performed two tests which yielded the same value EVER. If we were to accept that the speed of light in a vacuum is NOT constant (which should be obvious when we know that gravitational forces bend light) then we would have to accept that every single time weve ever measured the distance to anything in space, the values are almost definitely wrong.
Point being, when you don't trust them to actually know, and you don't trust them to be honest with what they do know, it leaves a lot of room for whatever idea someone throws at you that they can make sound credible. I am skeptical and rational and it didnt take me too long to realize they dont have any credible evidence, so I dont believe the Earth is flat, but I also don't believe that the vast majority of information we are taught about space is accurate or true.

      Tesla - Electrons don't exist.
Hubble - The universe is eternal and static...and accelerating...but forever...?

"Common knowledge" is not scientifically sound. The times in history when "common knowledge" was turned on its head by a maverick are uncountable. There are hundreds of citable examples and even Einstein faced a hundred scientists who opposed his Theory of Relativity. They all signed a letter challenging his beliefs and presented him with it. "Why a hundred?", Einstein reportedly asked, "If I am wrong, one would do."
And no, I am not a flat earther but that is because I have actually investigated the proofs of a round earth and found the "globist" argument to be sound. I cannot say the same for a few other widely-believed "truths".

It has answers to what causes all of our natural phenoma, but as soon as you dive into how those things work, their model is just faith based. One classic is their explanation of gravity, I've heard too explanations from flat eathers on this, 1) that the earth disc is simply moving upward and our own momentum is the gravity we feel. This falls apart because the earth disc would need to be accelerating at 9.8m/s/s which means it would be going well beyond the speed of light by now. The other i that its merely buoyancy, that we are sinking in the atmosphere, which is technically true tbf, but this fails when you explain that materials of different densities do absolutely separate, but the heavier one going down is due to gravity. So I then ask, "yes we are more dense than air, but what makes us separate downward toward the earth? if its just buoyancy without gravity, we could all settle to the side, not down" then they just shrug their shoulders because at the end of the day flat earth iis just religious faith in a new package.

Each idea must stand or fall on its own merits, unfortunately. I say unfortunately, because it takes some amount of expertise to know whether a given idea, with a field of pursuit, is valid or potentially so.
All I'm saying is, people go around taking for granted the truths of what their teachers and textbooks tell them. In economics, this is a disaster for society that cannot be gone into here. But for instance, the fact our money is managed by a privately owned entity disguised as a government agency ought to give one a decent indication of the 'disaster' I'm referring to. But it goes MUCh further than that.
So if it can happen in econ, it can (and, importantly, WILL) happen in other fields, too. Simply to serve the interests of whoever runs the show in those fields.
And I've seen enough critique of the conduct of academic science to know that, yes, it too, is VERY far from the scientific ideal of disinterested and objective truth seekers.

And if it can happen in econ (where $$ incentives dictate people --- and more of them --- will seek truth more diligently than otherwise) it can and will happen elsewhere. This goes for physical sciences too. Again and again I've seen examples and arguments (indeed entire books) speaking to the lack of objective science being conducted. I'm not saying THEREFORE everything must be thrown out, I'm saying take nothing for granted. Each idea must be examined in and of itself. Painstaking and slow, but necessary.

I strongly believe I was a much smarter person senior year in high school than I am now. You are constantly being challenged by your teachers, you're constantly critically thinking and training your brain. After high school, it's all about learning how to be an adult, taking care of yourself, and how to survive in society which doesn't take much brain power. When you stop working your brain and critically thinking, it goes downhill from there. It's like working out your muscles. If you don't train them, they shrink.
So yes I believe these younger people are more educated than us older people because their priorities are education.

I'm writing this at 09:50 while George is saying that he thinks SPACE is flat, etc. Which is something I have very recently been very curious about. I believe Earth is round, just as the rest of the planets. BUT, if you do research on space, it's a bit of a different concept. Scientists are not 100% sure if space is flat or curved. But they think that if space is flat, it will be infinite & go on & on & on & on forever. But, if space is curved, it just gives the resemblance of going on & on & on & on forever but really doesn't. My thoughts.. If space is curved, that means there is something beyond space. What could it be? But if it's flat, how can something just continue and NEVER END. Space is something the mind cannot even comprehend.

Though, this applies to our physical dimension, perhaps outside of “existence” there is a different dimension that is non-physical awaiting. I don't question the math, and I agree with Einstein's own explanation of the "fictional force" of gravity. However, with another 100 years of observations since and the difficulty with resolving it to quantum mechanic theory, we should be open to consider what the next more inclusive model will be. 🤔

Outside of his beliefs, I think his point has importance that is often overlooked - that we ARE taught a lot of things as facts, where in reality we're learning just about our current level of understanding.
Historically, there were wild swings in levels of understanding of natural or scientific phenomena, where "facts" would change completely - on top of that, there definitely is a bit of an entrenched elitist attitude in the science community that sets a non-insignificant hurdle to individuals' "question everything" approach and "free thinking". While I absolutely ridicule groups like flat-earthers, I do think we would benefit from emphasizing to our kids that what we're teaching them is just the current way we see and understand things and there's surely more to them, still to be discovered - even in "basic" topics, such as gravity, or cellular structure.
There still WAAAAY to go to deepen our understanding of nature and universe, and we should encourage kids to be open about it and explorative - HOW to think, like he says - although I can't grasp how you can apply analytical thinking and believe in the flat Earth...Oh well...

I do agree with the sentiment that we are tokd what to believe more than we are told how to believe. I believe that the Earth is round, but my entire reason is that people I trust have told me that it is round.
Even though I do understand why people smarter than me believe it is round, I have gathered absolutely no evidence of it being round personally. I think that is true of most people.

@@Globeishoax LOL Go away. All I said is that I agree with the sentiment that we are told what to believe more than we are told how to believe. That is a failure in out education where we do not provide the inquisitive with the tools they need to understand the world. That isn't a sign of a global conspiracy.

He had an opportunity for a nice sales pitch here, & ran with it. Credit where due: He’s _nailed_ the communication skills of charismatic High-Control Group leaders. It’s only natural to find him engaging or hypnotic, his message intriguing. This is by design- not by what he says, but _how_ he says it.
This isn’t a condemnation of him; I find his communication abilities genuinely impressive, if not also somewhat unnerving.
