MUNCHIES: Chef's Night Out at Bao Bei Chinese Brasserie

Tannis Ling is an ex-bartender and chef Joel Watanabe is a French Japanese ex-Montrealer. Together, they run Bao Bei Chinese Brasserie in Vancouver's historic Chinatown district. They let us follow them around for a night to their favorite Vancouver haunts-Keefer Bar, Damso Modern Korean Cuisine, and Cascade. But to finish off the night right, the crew headed back to Bao Bei, where Joel cooked up copious amounts of fried chicken and pork belly.

That's the case in downtown I think, but if you go across bridge to south, there might be something going on. There is The Naam Restaurant at West 4 in Kits opens 24 hours.... It's vegetarian restaurant. Further south, then there are more late night joints, but like the lady in the video, some can be quite disgusting, but for me, most of them seem to be pretty good. Hey, anything is better than my own cook. So, I can't complaint.

I finally found the Vancouver one! And they are riping on the city. There are tons of places to go to :( They didn't check out Commerical Drive, Davie, Granville...Not a very good interpretation of the city :(
But you gotta admit. After 8-9pm its hard to find places to eat at. There Fritz which is my personal favorite but other than that I don't really know anywhere else.

True..Belgian fries does horrible poutine. The best poutine I had in BC was at this mom and pop fish and chip shop in Williams Lake.

Vancouver is amazing but both times Ive not found really great food. The best I found is the sushi bar across from the old smelly Fairmont.
Anna Lena and Catch 122 are great places.

not regular tofu. its made with chickpea and is insanely delicious.
and it's Asian cooking so makes a lot more sense....
please do not use "chef" so easily. anyone can make tofu taste good, just dash sesame oil soy sauce sugar and garlic on it and fry. It's like rice or pasta... a blank slate with subtle flavor ready to be dressed up. A person who can make a pb and j can make tofu taste good. Chefs are made with years of experience and extensive knowledge on how to run a kitchen well. Not trying to be an asshole >..< I just can't stand people calling themselves chef when all they've done is cook a few meals and never step foot in or run a full kitchen.
Go to Bao Bei, then tell me Joel isn't a chef. Your long winded response is rediculous.

The thing I hate about munchies night out is the ending where you see a horde of hipsters come to the restaurant post working hours to mooch off the free food.
