I think Rohin died a bit inside being called a "medical influencer".
At least he wasn't called a medical vlogger
haha I thought the exact same thing haha oh man Brady buddy
You mean the proudest moment of his life?
You can kind of see it
That was one of my favorite moments in the video. Stab to the heart! 😂💗
I am glad they revived him with old medical documents instead of leaving him in that sorry state.
Can we stop for a moment admire the immense details of the drawings?! There were no photographs but the drawings are so precise, I can imagine the real things so clearly 😲
If I had a penny for every "believe me, doctor, it didn't look like that yesterday" and then being shown necrotic tissue that had to be in development for weeks, or massive tumour growth that had to be developing for months...
I assume that most such cases that “didn’t look like that yesterday” must have looked pretty bad the day before, even if they didn’t look _exacty_ like when you saw them.
So I’m too stoned and undereducated to be taken seriously so bear with me, but could those be cases of like acute hyper body dismorphia? Like to them it actually wasn’t that bad and that day was the straw that broke the proverbial camels back and “broke the spell”?
@@hamslicemcdooogle8080
Sudden worsening of an otherwise very gradual development? Sounds plausible.
@@hamslicemcdooogle8080 It's psychological I agree but more in a denial way "it will go away if I ignore it"/"If I go to the doctor it will become a 'real' thing" etc. and then when it gets too bad to ignore/function with they show up in the ER and just lie instead of admitting to themselves and their physician they screwed up big time

You also don’t necessarily notice how much worse something has got when you live with it constantly. For example, I’ve only rarely noticed just how out of date my glasses prescription was until I put on the new glasses, because my eyesight doesn’t change noticeably from one day to the next.
Nice Collab! Would love to see Rohin look at some cardiovascular cases and drawings next time, then he can tell us how it's changed in detail.
"He's an influencer" _Shows doctor breakdancing_
So he's the breakdancing doctor
_starts to float_
Oh, he's the breakdancing doctor in Zero G on the Vomit Comet! 🤯
I love MedLife Crisis, Rohin is so funny and has really interesting information. These archives are wonderful, I loved the head illustrations.
In a world where patient secrecy/confidentiality is of utmost importance, I'm surprised to see the patients back then be described so thoroughly as to not leave a sigle doubt or trace to who they were.
Bastards, the lot of them
Well most of them seem to be of "honest repute"
A new Objectivity video, AND it's with Rohin? Must be my birthday.
Excellent collab - looking forward to seeing more of Rohin.
I would not have said Brady and Rohin had similar voices, but a couple times I realized I mistook who was talking.
I thought the same thing. And usually when I hear Rohin's voice it's paired with his face.
I suspect the tapes were produced as there was no standard measurement in the UK at the time. A foot in Cornwall was probably not the same as a foot in Essex, or a foot in Yorkshire.
Always a pleasurable experience whenever Keith and an expert in their respective field shows up. Bradys specialty is film and photography.
Has Objectivity gone down the Royal Society road for the history of photography and moving pictures?
great episode more with rohin pls pls
Delighted to see a new video (as well as the superb content!); because I was concerned since it had been a while.
Many thanks for sharing! Very interesting stuff!
Wow! Nice to see Rohin in this channel !!
Surprisingly good illustrations for the time. Thanks!
Man Brady is really scraping the barrel for guests these days 😉
You might be next!
@@cyrilio Given the tone of this reply I would expect Practical Engineering to already have filmed an episode, pending release
You woundeth me brother
I think that's mean
scrubs!
this channel is edited amazingly, the crew behind these videos could be doing nature documentaries , very cinematic and professional
Loved this episode! ❤
Thanks for sharing
Two of my favorite channels in one video!
That was a really interesting one !
Nice one... Please more with him
Great stuff
Very interesting!
Oh well, in Germany we still use this kind of atlases, nothing digital here... :D But at least in my city medstudents still get to dissect bodys of donors themselves, which is such a humbeling and valuable learning experience!
Man this is an awesome channel
Thank you. Tell your friends. :)

Sudden engorgement… That doesn’t happen to me in my 30’s. But brought me much attention in high school and when singing in the choir.
I know this is the Royal Society but it is Rohin…. so I’m not sure what you expect from this comment section.
Best of luck though
😁
this is such a fun concept
This is wonderful.
Medical history is such a wonderful source of examples for understanding what science is.
I'm a foreigner living in China, and what's on display here is more advanced than a lot of the nonsense that's unfortunately still commonly used and believed in China when it comes to medicine.
The majority of my knowledge of medical science comes from a couple of books by Ben Goldacre and Simon Singh. I'd love to see more about medical history, what we've learnt from the past and especially what we got wrong and how we figured out it was wrong.
Phenomenal!
I don't know about British medical education, but as far as artistic depictions of anatomy, in the US the works of Dr. Frank Netter are still used in medical schools, as well as other illustrated atlases like Grant's Atlas of Anatomy and Grant's Dissector. I suppose that they're not used quite as much as clinical references since noninvasive imaging looks different than gross anatomical sections, and surgical references are usually full of photographs rather than illustrations.
The best guest ever!
Would love to see more Rohin looking at this sort of stuff
best crossover ever!
More Rohin please!!❤
this was really interesting & enjoyable - thanks Rohin, both for the contribution to this, and advising us - I'll have to check out Objectivity when I have some more time. when I was working at Starship (children's hospital for Aotearoa/New Zealand) - I had several enjoyable, albeit brief conversations with the chief resident about the history of medicine - I went, as he suggested to the small but interesting medical museum onsite - only to find it closed each time. still on my to-do list....
So has Rohin resurfaced from the archives yet?
You missed your chance to say goodbye 😔
Brady looks like he's been living the fititron 3000 life.
HELLO INTERNET
Those tapes are still used today, as wound packing amongst other things. Cool
i like that vlogger guy with the beard
Yepp, this video helps a BUNCH with my diet 🤔
I love it though! Insanely interesting =D
Wtf i clicked because i saw dr Francis and how did i never find out that Brady is on other channels than numberphile
wait, Brady has another other other other channel too?
I would guess the bony thing in the womb is a fibroid which might be calcified bearing in mind I'm guessing it's probably untreated for so long that it's a cause of death, or maybe its "bony" in that it's kinda hard and kinda whitish but not literally bone.
Back in the day you weren't a doctor if you couldn't draw wonderfully it looks like. Do the length tapes change over time due to drying out or some stress, or do they last centuries as accurate measures?
I can't fathom the deatil they went into with the veins. Like unbelievable if they both observed and copied in drawing all of those veins exactly and didn't just observe the idea and then illustrate them.
Love Keith's gucci glasses
Dr. Francis? Yup that’s all I need to click on the video
Edit: video is way too short
It's that doctor turned kinda-funny youtuber! He's proof you can always reach your drrams!
I don't understand why sometimes they wear gloves and others (like this video) they don't. Doesn't the oils from their fingers get on the papers? Why isn't it a problem? What dictates when you need gloves and when not?
I’m no expert, but if I remember correctly, with librarians the loss of touch sensitivity when wearing gloves with delicate pages is considered a greater risk than the risk of contamination. Gloved hands are more likely to rip or otherwise damage the pages. Instead, they just make sure their hands are clean first. I can’t remember where I heard that.
More with Rohin please
Rohin*
Now corrected. Finger trouble
the gucci glasses are a statement
I've been away for a bit, but dang Brady got fit, no?
Morbidly disgusting yet intensely interesting.
The lesson I learned from Pete Davidson is that you don't have to look like Chris Hemsworth to be considered attractive. I've said that because he exists beauty standards are out the window. What I really meant was that you don't have to be a jacked and super muscular guy to be considered attractive. It's okay to just be you
So much tape in this episode. It felt like a Techmoan episode…
Keith Moore!!!!!!!!????
Keith: you're not an idiot.
I hope later he'll don the Surgical Gloves of Destiny.
8:26 My cheeks, they flush a scarlet red, whence i am confronted by señor's Gucci spectacles 😳
"poor and mean parentage" 😬😢
Missing the gloves :(
archivists don’t use gloves. gloves reduce dexterity and sensitivity of your hands and increase the risk of you damaging fragile papers
Gotta say: the phrase "medical influencer" is the most disturbing thing in this video...
this was NOT the objectivity to eat brunch to
Keith, if those 'so-called' experts were smarter than you, then how come now of them can read? 😉
Money can't buy good repute. Ill, sure, but good? Nay.
isn't doctor a subcategory of medical influencer?
Are these really historic though? They are certainly historical, but it's a bit of a stretch to call them historic.
@@JorgTheElder I don't think it does. Historic means something historically significant, like if it was medical certificate for a monarch. But if it's just bunch of medical records for everyday people, I wouldn't call them historic.
A doctor, unmasked, inside... wow.
Nah
