"Wise surf guru"--I don't know if I've ever heard someone hit the nail so squarely on the head. Keith is delightful!
The guy in the gloves can also see the future, as gloves will be required to visit the library, despite the CDC stating that Covid-1984 doesn't spread easily on surfaces...
@Boco Corwin "Hit squarely" means "with pinpoint accuracy"
@Boco Corwin That ain't funny enough for me to consider a joke lol, though you tried, which is the more important thing here :))))
Finally, Keith is the object!
XD
Keith was the object all along
He did not seem to object to it.
Really, really loved Keith's dry humour such as when he was talking about his astronaut training.
"wise surf guru" made me cry, what a great man Keith is.
Wouter looked straight into my soul
12:24 That chainsaw casually sitting on the cupboard in the living-room... brilliant :)
YES. I can't decide if it was there because it had just been in use or if it's a statement piece. I believe they are equally plausible though it looks too dust free to have just been in use. Maybe just sharpened.
Keith is such a great person and I'm thankful for this channel. Because of it and Keiths amazing ability to read old handwriting I took a course at my university to learn the old German Kurrentschrift and we gathered a team of 5 students to transcribe and maybe publish the minutes of the local government from 1848.
How cool is that, best of luck to you and your team
Very interesting! 1848, because it was the year of Revolutions?
@@Schizopantheist Yes exactly!
As a 35 year NASA fellow, I've come to know those people who press launch buttons. Hop over Keith, we'll happily launch you. I should mention however, due to budget cuts we'll need you to hand crank the fuel pump during ascent. Enjoyed the video!
As I hear we don't have the tech to back anyways lol
There is something about Keith that just makes me trust him. Keith says something and i just assume it to be true. He just has so much integrity.
Brady your interviewing skills are of the chart, I feel I got to know Keith a bit in this 20 min.
You'd think so, considering he was a journalist and his entire life has revolved around asking questions.
@@thitherword He's better than most journalists at asking the *right* questions.
Listen to the Numberphile podcasts. You don't have to like maths or even watch the channel. They're just amazing human stories like this one.
Thanks for allowing me to ask my question Brady, and thank you Keith for answering it! I think there's your new video series idea. I would love to know what the fellows wrote down, and if they did have some polite "beef" or if it's generally scientific stuff.
I think that having the library accessible and a living thing for everyone to see is a great way to make knowledge accessible. I'm glad it is that way. A true library
You looked straight into our souls when you were asking the question.
The video we've all been waiting for...the best thing to come out of this lockdown...
Folks, it's here!!
Keith is so eccentric yet so humble! I love it :D
He truly is a wise surf guru.
Commenting on 14:52. Knowing that archivists do speak of historical injustices is quite impressive and very much encouraging. For my grandfather, getting access to archival records of his father being shot near Moscow was near impossible, and only a few photographs could be taken back.
For a long time, before seeing libraries in Sweden and Denmark i always assumed that libraries are those places in which the visitor is the most unwelcomed (unlike what's mentioned at 3:03) and that the archivists would keep things secret to preserve the glorious victorious past.
Hopefully the view of importance of opening up, and importance of looking at inglorious past could one day spread globally.
half the reason I keep watching Objectivity is Keith Moore. The man is a rock star; he's cool as hell, intelligent as anyone that shows up on a Brady Haran video (if maybe not as educated), and has the best hair of them all. His charm and wit just emanates from the screen. He truly is the Wise Surf Guru. You need to add the silhouette of a surfboard to the title screen for Objectivity videos now Brady.
I think Brady is quietly hunting quiet intellectuals and turning them into youtube legends for the good of mankind. Well done and well presented. Thank you.
this man is someone that people should know about. humble and intelligent. this is the kind of person i would like to be around. what a good guy.
The video we've all been waiting for! It's a good point Keith made, that slavery would have been considered a commonplace part of life for many historical writers and it wouldn't even have occurred to them to highlight it. I'm glad work is being done to help out scholars in that area.
9:50 Keith, your answer to the question "how did you get into diving" is the best answer ever!
Truly two remarkable people there in this video
A Keith silhouette with Wise Surf Guru is a t-shirt
Or maybe his name followed by W.S.G, with and asterisk, and Wise Surf Guru in small letters
Shut up and take my money!
A circle with Keith in a flower shirt and a tropical island scene in the background, of course saying 'Wise Surf Guru' underneath in a bubbly font.
Crushing so hard on Keith!
What can I say, every time I see a video with Mr.More my spirit rises a bit, and I'm always impressed by his thoughtful and humble yet witty demeanor.
And so I want to thank him for sharing his time and knowledge with us.
And while I'm at it I have to thank "the Objectivity crew" (who ever they are) and of course Brady for both "finding" and then bringing these excellent videos featuring Mr.More to us.
My heartfelt thanks
"accidentally went cave diving" omg terrifying
Really, really loved Keith's dry humour such as when he was talking about his astronaut training.
That was a joy to watch. Thanks to the whole crew, including the wise surf guru, for making such interesting video content.
Keith is an absolutely fascinating dude. I could listen to him talk about impressive, or even not so impressive, things for hours. Great video and thank you Keith for doing this and Brady, as always.
Keith, you’re a real human being; humble, kind, generous and funny. I’m glad you and Brady found each other, so this channel could be as great as it is. I know that your not always like your ‘on camera’ persona, but I’m guessing that even grumpy Keith is not half bad to be around. And with that, thanks!
No joke, I love the chain saw in the background @12:30. Fits very well next to the decorative plates and cups.
In Brady’s email he said for audio quality “not to record next to a chainsaw or anything.”
Ah, now I get it!!!!
While I am absolutely thankful for this video, a part of me wishes Keith would feature in your Numberphile podcast and we could listen to a few anecdotes of his.
Brady, you're an excellent journalist.
I've quite recently re-read The Name of the Rose, so Keith's conviction that an unused library is a dead library rings even closer to home than usual! A great sentiment
Young Kieth looks like he could've been the singer for an 80s new wave band
I think he looks like Steve Howe.
“Bob, from Twin Peaks”. I loved hearing that.
We need Moore questions and answers in the future! The future is now.
I loved all the smiles of the people on the channel as Keith pulls out the various objects from the stacks. Keith is the image of what we think of when we think of Santa Claus.
Keith is the quintessence of the concept of cultured man
I watch this channel because of Keith. He is so humorous. I love it.
Keith is such a legend!
Wonderful that Keith in his best age. haven't forgot to dream big. And why should space not be on the bucket list. good on you Keith. And never give up.😉👍
FINALLY. THIS WAS FOR THE PEOPLE.
"Bob from Twin Peaks" I love that show and to hear Keith reference it made me laugh and smile. Great job!
Nice to hear from Keith.
Brady handling the question paper with gloves is just 😂
These little snippets of the man‘s life are just as interesting as the scribbles in the margins of ‚his’ books. What an utterly interesting man; so many stories, so much knowledge. You just want to sit down and listen to everything he has to say.
Wow. This warmed my soul, thanks everyone♥️
Finally! The gloves of destiny chose ... the Keith! I'm so giddy, I have to like & comment before watching. Thnaks to you both, you're appreciated around the world
This wise surf guru is my favourite person of CZcams. I hope he and Brady are doing well! Can't wait for more videos.
Keith is a legend, so glad you've allowed us to experience his presence in so many amazing videos! I'm always ecstatic when I see a new one in my feed, can't wait for more!
Oh, wow! I hadn't realized that Keith is such a multi-faceted man! Cheers to you both!
Keith comparing his hair to Bob from Twin Peaks was one of the most pleasantly surprising things I've heard all year.
6:20 arrest that rebel!
Post - data: I also voted for flaggy flag ;)
Me too! I gasped slightly when it appeared!
This is my favourite Objectivity video of all time!!!
I have said this before, as an American, I see Keith as what I imagine a "proper English gentleman" to be.
This was really awesome- You're a great interviewer, and Keith is endlessly interesting :)
Love ya Keith ! Hey Brady I cant find part two or three of this interview.
Probably on the wrong shelf.
By far my fav Objectivity to date.
R.E.K. Karlsson flying a cheeky Flaggy Flag at 6:05! That's the one I voted for, too. The Nail & Gear is the official one, yes, but I'm still obstinately happy to see FF in the wilds of the internet.
Keith describing where he learned to dive, then putting Monterey Bay on his wish list, made me laugh. That’s where I got certified. “Can’t see a thing, cold...” pretty good description of a Monterey Bay dive on a typical day. :-) (To be clear, it is indeed an amazing dive site for all that.)
I saved this best for last in my Objectivity binge catch-up and now I’m sad that it’s over.
Brady for president (of the world) and Keith for astronaut! Your videos always have an idyllic quality. Are all the people you interview or talk to always genuine and good-hearted or do you use some kind of magic? Thanks for doing this! :)
Keith is like that one owl spirit from Avatar, except he shares his collections.
huh, people have been referencing Avatar a lot on CZcams lately, even here. These always brighten my day.
@@morezco Oh yeah, during quarantine I decided to watch the whole series for at least the 5th time, and a lot of my friends keep sending me Avatar memes, so I guess I can't take my mind off of it.
Yeah, Wan Shi Tong - he who knows one thousand things. :)
Keith is a treasure!
I wish I could "like" this video a few hundred times. Thank you Dr. Haran and Dr. Moore for this fun conversation!
Look at that Flaggy-Flag in the second video question, the rebels hold strong!
We that voted for it will never let go! 😉
We need some Moore
Now that is a pun worthy of Keith
Brady, you should get Simon Whistler to visit the archives.
He would be interesting in most likely anything considering that he covers a lot of historic content on his various channels as is, allegedly.
His humor is so dry and I love it xD
Keith, what a man!
I really enjoyed this video.
I know it was officially an interview, but it felt like two friends, both very interesting people, having an enjoyable and illuminating chat.
Much appreciated.
This is gold. Love ya Keith.
And I suppose you too Brady, you scheming Aussie troll.
I almost feel like 7:08 is Keith getting a very clever pun in.
Brady! Please change the name of the numberphile podcast to "Brady's podcast" or whatever, and put people like Keith on! You know so many interesting people through your job that aren't mathematicians!
This video was absolutely fantastic and so much fun to watch! Thank you Brady and Keith!
"Wise surf guru or Bob from Twin Peaks." Keith is full of surprises.
keith is fantastic - thanks so much for this video, love these interviews, and all the two of you do at objectivity
I absolutely loved this. Thanks Keith and Brady!!!
Some time back Keith mentioned his fossil collection.
May we see it?
I second this question.
This was such a delight, thanks a lot!
Literally every single thing about this video was so perfect. We love Keith and his amazing team of archivists.
Pimp your library with Keith
Keith dives and worked for the Welcome collection! he keeps getting cooler
This is the video I've been waiting for! I laughed, I enjoyed, I learned. Thank you!
I stumbled on this channel some videos ago, and I just skip any video without Keith. No offense to everybody else, but he's just delightful.
I'll have the next 22 parts now, please.
The Most Modest Head Librarian Ever To Never Want To Be On Camera Nor To Be The Center Of Attention In All Videos Made Thanks To This Modest Head Librarian.
I have loved each and every Objectivity video, but none more than this one!
I love this channel so much
Utterly charming.
I'm relatively new to the channel, but I've already fallen in love with the idea and this video was just so wholesome and wonderful! Keep up the great work!
Enjoy the backlog of videos! You have a lot of catching up to do, objectively.
Aw, come on. That was worth at least one applau.
Wish this was longer also I have to comment on Keith's comedic timing the man's a genius of words! Loved the video, are there outtakes?
Just wonderful!
I agree that finding things stuck in the pages by a previous reader or owner is a joy! I often "adopt" old books that our public library is selling or getting rid of, many of which were donated to the library by someone else. I have found all manner of interesting book marks, from post cards, letters, and once even marijuana leaves!
Whatta man, Keith
Keith is a Twin Peaks fan. That's all I needed to know.
💙💚💛💜🧡 That was wonderful! Thank you for another fantastic video.
Very interesting. Wonderful info and answers. Thanks for sharing.
A much expected episode! But as a scientist and a diver myself, I was hoping Keith to mention his favorite pieces regarding diving history. Since JS Haldane and his son, JBS Haldane, were both FRS, I believe that the RS Archives may have great material about this subject - maybe even some records of the experiments father conducted over his son!
Awesome. Keith is the greatest!
Fuck yes Brady I've been waiting for this since the birth of this amazing channel. I'll like before watching because the videos are always fantastic. Keep up the hard work and dedication. 💙🍻
That was so brilliant!!! 👍🏻
