I totally agree, the customization was confusing and didn’t appeal to me.

Even though I wasn't a fan of the graphics and animation, I wanted Life by You to succeed. Too bad they took themselves out of the race to be the top of life Sim genre.
As you have mentioned in Life by You seems interesting with customizations way up to the stratosphere, but I don't find the gameplay itself is interesting. (This opinion will definitely make LbY fans come at me lol) Which is a shame since this game is set up as the main Sims competitor.

It was just too much, they tried to give everyone what they wanted, then people wondered why these life simulations lag, and have problems even with a great laptop or whatever, life by you was too much and too complicated, we would never make it to the part to play wondering how to make your avatar 😅 people expect too much and then complain when there’s so much issues, if people want more reality than go live it.🤷🏻‍♀️

What does it mean LBY was cancelled…honestly the other games get more attention as people grasp hold of the hope of them rising from the ashes of LBY, even Vivaland is getting more attention post-LBY cancelation.
Also Cities 2 just released Economy 2.0 and the Detailers FREE package. I would say they are making way more effort to fix there past mistakes.

I never have much faith in sims 4 competitors, so I never had any real interest in life by you though other simmers I knew were talking about it and seemed pretty excited. I can't say I predicted the downfall, but I knew it wouldn't be worth the hype so I never watched any content on it or got excited about it. In a way I guess I was on the winning side because I turned out to be right about not being able to put high hopes on new lifesims. I think the only real issue that causes people to get excited when someone dares to challenge EA is basically how much DLC the franchise relies on and how people are tired of minimal content for far too much money (it's no secret EA has become more predatory as of recent, just think about the newest expansion pack), and just the game being buggy, but otherwise I think it has just about everything you'd want in a lifesim, plus mods.
I guess we'll just have to wait for the real TS4 killer.

The real TS4 killer will never exist, at most we’ll get some games that co-exist in the same space. What people want, for the most part, out of the many optional ways you can play a life sim game varies by drastic measures. Which is why you STILL have people who prefer Sims 2 over 3. And why you get the Maxis Match vs CC argument over again. There’s different levels of argument about ‘realisim’ needs. And so much more. Right now sims 4 has enough tools for those different playstyles, however imperfect they may be. And if you are on PC, enough mods to iron sims 4 to your personal taste. And you can still buy and play Sims 3 “officially” (unlike Sims 2 which is harder to find and get going on).
By the time Sims 5 or Renee or whatever they call it comes out, I just hope Paralives and Inzoi and maybe Vivaland too at least have noticeable thriving communities. And the lifesim genra is actually a GENRA.
