    Lakers just had an incredible roster that year so many players that could play multiple position and they could just come up with lineups that would be a mismatch for any team in any era.
    Magic/Scott/Cooper/Worthy/Kareem is the original lineup of death.

    I was almost 6 years old when this FInals took place. Two things I still remember most from it: 1) Magic's junior skyhook to put the Lakers on top in Game 4 at the Garden, and 2) Big Game James diving on the floor to save the ball for Magic to throw down the dagger dunk in Game 6 that pretty much sent the Lakers on their way to their 4th NBA championship of that decade. Showtime basketball = Lakers basketball at its finest!!!

      Correct. The Lakers had too many weapons and they had the greatest player ever in Kareem Abdul Jabbar. He scored 32 points in the 1987 close out game at age 40.. I’ve been watching and attending NBA games for the last 40 years and the best teams I’ve seen have been th 1985 and 1987 Lakers and the 1986 Celtics. The Bulls were good but not in the top 3, despite Jordan.

      @alexandervillagran3621 Před 4 lety +4

      This is 1987, not 1977, you are implying that and Parrish Walton were a more effective combination than Jabbar Thompson, which they were not. A healthy Bill Walton would not have made a different. The 1987 Los Angeles Lakers were the greatest NBA Team in history. The 1985 Los Angeles Lakers were the second greatest team in NBA History.

    • @dwashington1333
      @dwashington1333 Před 4 lety +3

      @@alexandervillagran3621 It went 6 games without Walton, a healthy McHale and Parish. Why is that a stretch to say 7 games with them? I didn't say the Celtics would definitely win. I think the 1996 Bulls and the 1986 Celtics and some NBA experts would disagree with you saying 87 Lakers the best and 85 2nd best.

    • @alexandervillagran3621
      @alexandervillagran3621 Před 4 lety +1

      Each game in Los Angeles was a blow out. Walton played in that series, although he did not play much, which was a K.C. Jones decision. The only regular/rotation player who did not play due to an injury was Scott Weidman, which is not a big loss. NBA experts based in the east coast. You would never get them to admit the Magic, Abdul Jabbar, Worthy and great supporting cast were the greatest.

    " I'm back " .... this era represented smart basketball. And while I think about it this rivalry, Celtics : Lakers, had some of the truly best and smartest players ever. HOF'ers for Boston - Bird, Parrish, McHale, DJ (Dennis Johnson R.I.P.) & for L.A. - Jabbar, Magic, and Worthy. Larry Bird said many years ago that Dennis Johnson was the smartest player he ever played with. Pretty high praise ....

    People go on about Super Teams these days. 86-87 Lakers had the best PG of all time, best Center of all time, and another Hall of Famer in James Worthy. Meanwhile that Celtics team had 4 HoFers in the starting lineup. And some of the teams they had in prior years were even more loaded. Far more often than not, NBA championship teams have had at least 2 HoF caliber players performing at a high level in their lineup. It's always been part of the NBA's makeup.

      Very true. Of course a majority of the audience will complain about the matchup, maybe because their team didn't make it as far, or just because it's "repetitive". But at the end of the day, we're all going to take a look back at this rivalry and say that it was one for the books.

    • @dave_dynasty
      @dave_dynasty Před 7 lety

      FlashStep2013 it wasn't lakers vs Celtics in the finals for like 3 years in a row. lakers did play the bad boys pistons and Celtics did play the rockets once in the finals

    • @SwishScopeOfficial
      @SwishScopeOfficial Před 7 lety

      Nope. The Sixers, Rockets and Pistons stopped those two and threatened them for the entire decade. You had 2 of those teams actually steal several championships and finals appearances from the Celtics and Lakers. So in total for the 80s you 5 legit contenders who consistently made their way to the finals or championship, and to spice things up even more, the GOAT was playing on an unimpressive Bulls team. Unlike now when it's just 3 teams: Spurs, Warriors and Cavs.
      No matter what other current team you try to mention like the Clips and Rockets, it won't matter, they've never even made the finals to be considered legit contenders.

    • @ckendall67
      @ckendall67 Před 7 lety

      - The Celtics & Lakers were the class of the NBA throughout the '80s BUT it's not like they completely dominated, both teams had their share of adversity & challenges along the way; the Celts had to contend with the Pistons & Sixers AND a Bulls team that, though they weren't the eventual powerhouse that would dominate in the '90s, showed lots of promise & were tough to beat especially with MJ coming into his prime. The Lakers had to compete with the likes of Houston, & yes Dallas, Denver & Utah, they weren't powerhouses either BUT they often stood in the Lakers' way of getting back to the Finals. And a lot of those series went the distance. Often times, yes, the Celts & Lakers wound up clashing in the Finals BUT they both did endure plenty of competition along the way. Today, you've got the Cavs & Warriors simply barreling their way through the entire league with barely a sweat.

    • @computerlove0168
      @computerlove0168 Před 6 lety

      Wrong Garcia. The Lakers and Celtics were legends BEFORE the 80s. The Cavs and Warriors were garbage teams FOREVER and wont come CLOSE to Laker and Celtic dynastys. How many titles do the Warriors and Cavs have now? 2-3? Do the math.

    I'm not saying Boston would've won the series, but the Lakers had 2 things that worked in their favor: 1) Bird missed an open game winner(which is rare) after Magic's hook shot and 2) Lynn Bias had passed before the season started(God bless that family). I think the Lakers still win it in 6, but it would've been a bit more interesting. But Pat was right, they weren't losing that year. Question: how was Boston able to draft Bias when they had just won a chip?
