If you want gold you have to have very low discrimination, I set the discrimination at iron mark on the control knob. The Compadre will hit on silver coins no matter what discrimination you have. Super simple detector. Have fun and good luck Tom!!
It escapes me how any new detector out performs White's Spectra V3i and the Tesoro beep machines! Other than bragging rights: I paid ($1600) sixteen hundred dollars for my metal detector! Whoopie doo! lol. R O F L.
Would you like me to explain the settings for it to you. I also have it's little brother the DFX. It will slaughter targets with 85% accuracy on its ID and nail pretty deep targets with just the 950 coil. The D2 10 inch coil is a deep shooting coil for the DFX and the 12" hot shot coil is a monster if you can find one for sale they were custom made by one of Whites engineers for high minerals and gold sniffing abilities. Most detectors of today are using technology on one form or another designed by Whites. But if you can't get performance from that detector study the manual and learn what each setting actually does first because it's not a turn on and go machine as it's made for the pro's who know how to adjust a detector for every situation you may face. If you needed a turn on and go you should've bought the MXT or the sport.

Turn that internal sensitivity up man, it's a 5 min job and it will be really helpful with those iffy targets.
