From my experience using the Compadre for many years I learned early on that setting the discrimination dial on the F of foil eliminates picking up all iron targets, and small foil/wrappers but still brings gold, 90% of the time. It’s definitely fun and informational with the ID display. The quintessential beep and dig from days gone by. I found so many amazing finds with this machine. It’s 100% responsible for my detecting addiction.... great Vid
@@DigginSoCal It’s a mindless metal detector, and just plain fun at times. I actually killed it today with my Silver Micromax, one step up from the compadre. Sometimes i just don’t wanna think too much💪🏻
Thanks Bill for the comments. HH to you and Christine. Next time you’re coming up the Oregon Coast lmk if you’d like to hit a few hot spots, I’ll bring my fleet of Tesoro’s.✌🏻
I'm having a great day today. Bacon and scrambled eggs for breakfast with fresh coffee. My day became complete once there was bee dew! Bee dew is my absolute favorite.
People think the tesoro compadre is a toy but little do they know that-that detector can mop the floor with that minelab in park settings. Can literally swing coil all most up against chain link fences and metal post without it going nuts and is sensitive enough to find thin gold necklaces or bracelet that are made of super thin wire gold that many high end detectors would miss, I wouldn't consider it a depth demon but can get solid 6"-7" where 90% of your finds will be anyways. Found more gold with a compadre then all other detectors I've owned combined
One of the things I used to do with my Tesoro is once I would find a Target and all metal I would slowly move the Discrimination up and it gives you a little better idea of what's under there before you go digging in the grass that way you can avoid some of the iron targets at least
Tesoro’s actually have great discrimination. When you get a signal, what you do is slowly turn the discrimination knob until the signal goes away, and see where the knob pointer is . There’s actually a name for it. It’s called thumbing the discriminator, or some people call it thumbing the Tesoro. It is actually very accurate and after you do it for a while, you can call it almost every time. Tesoros are great TotLot hunting.
That's awesome SoCal I have the same machine but mine has two knobs on it . your right good for tot lots and not the grass . I wanna test it out in the desert maybe find a nice lil tooth nugget 🤣🙏 anyway have a good day nice out today in Torrance 👍.
Awesome job showing the new detector👍👍. That would be a sweet machine for the tot lots for sure, as I always dig everything in a tot lot and most everywhere I go. I can see how it would drive a person madd that uses vdi and is a trashy area as well. But all in all, I think it has proven to be a great lil machine👍👍. It's perfect in tot lots in all metal mode👍👍. After all, no matter what machine we are using we don't want to notch out things that get us the silver n gold 🧐. Well, great job Bill. That's just my opinion, right or wrong we all have one👍🤓👍. I wouldn't shake a stick at that machine, it does what it's intended to do ."finds metals"🙂. Bill& Christine, you two have a beautiful day. ❤️From Michigan

That was a good hunt Bill, you did really well. I love the Equinox that you use. The Tesoro looked almost vintage, since there wasn't a digital screen on it. It seemed that it worked pretty well. Take care. Looking forward to the next video. Tell Christine I said hello.
Great you had Christine do her Famous car noises in the video :) One of my friends had one of those Tesoro's with the dual discrimination on it and he could tell you if you had a gold ring, or a pull tab, or a nickle in your hand.He was Scary good with that machine in it's time.
I have the Tesoro Mojave and I paid for it with clad the first year I had it. You paid for the Compadre with one coin spill... LOL... Great little machine...
I have a Tejon and an Outlaw with a few Nel/CORS coils for each. Even with owning a Nox800, my Tejon is the jewelry finder. With the Tesoros, its all about how the target SOUNDS. The Outlaw is similar to the Compadre in that the discrimination is amazing and it is just plain fun to swing, pure detecting! GLHH!
Very interesting hunt as the Tesoro did a great job keeping up with your Equinox. But I especially like the necessary car sounds spliced in courtesy of Christine which makes the hunt complete. And that coin spill of quarters was just ridiculous.. I mean how do you lose $3 in change and not know it.. crazy. The Tesoro is a well-regarded detector but as you can see it's old technology compared to your n o x. Would make a great Tot Lot detector though.
The NOX is my go to but this detector did do a great job and I agree.... how do you not try and find all those quarters. I can imagine someone hanging upside down on that bar and all those coins spilling. Who knows???
Awesome hunt with this detector. The totlot was well stocked with goodies. I have never found that much in any totlot around me. My machine (a Bounty Hunter Pioneer 202) has 3 tones and that certainly helps over just the "there's something here" single tone. It has served me well for two years, but I am ready to upgrade. I fear there are many targets I may have missed because I have become more discriminating in my choices to dig every tone... and a machine with better target ID would help there. Cheers.
Nice Hunt Bill , interesting little machine it definatly finds stuff , but I'm kinda spoiled with my 800 Nox and Vavanquish 540 with the Taget ID numbers and the multiple Tones , lol Love your content variety, keep em coming Bill you guys are one of my favorite channels to watch my friend ! Thank you very much. I feel you, I love my Minelab detectors. It would be a good detector for when I have someone new coming out with me...kids especially. It can def find targets.
Too bad Tesoro went out of business in October of 2018. They made some great detectors. Gold can fall anywhere from foil all the way up to a zinc penny. So if you want to find gold rings or jewelry keep the disc. below foil and just above iron.
Use the "tesoro roll" method. Start by all metal, Keep sweeping ober a target and turn up the disc while sweeping until it stops beeping then back slowly until it beeps again and look at where it is to help identify targets. Then set back to all metal for next sweeps for more targets. That way you find everything but then can decide if you want to dig it. Later as you use it youll notice alot more about that single beep. Can be rounded, "smacking", crackling, double beep when close to coin or ring, etc etc.
Great Job Bill, You recorded Christine and her "Car Sounds" 🚗 🚔🚘🚕🚓🏎 I was so surprised that she got to be part of your "Hunt" 🥰😍😘🙂😀😃😄 I laughed out loud!! A Very Happy Surprise 😮 So Sorry about your "Scammer" some people need to get a real job!!! What's the point in doing that 🤔
Thanks. I showed her what I did and she thought it was funny too. Only after telling me I stole her lines. Lol. I don’t think I will use the GAW words ever again. I pent a lot of time deleting the spam comments and answering emails about it. Price of doing this I guess.
Another thing ive done is put small labels around the disc knob before and put lines where quarter, dime, etc discs out but notmally the roll method works really well. However to find small gold you kinda just want to put the dosc low just above a nail diwc out amd dig it all lol If you havent read up, the knob discs out anything below where the setting is. Copper silger and dimes and quarters are up top. Theyre famous for their awesome disc circuit. You can disc out foil and put a culoin under it and it wont beep on foil but will hit the coin.
Definitely a good hunt. Agree with previous comments that is fun just to have a hit and no hint of being iron or a coin. Just dig it. Would like to see it on the beach (dry and wet sand). Too bad about the spam, I guess that’s life in the big city though.
Yes.... It was a nice experience with this detector. The only drawback to the beach is the size of the coil. But I am sure it would do well at least in the dry. I may try it out after an initial hunt just to see how it does. Yeah...spam bots suck...lol
Put a piece of foil, a nickel, a pull tab, a zinc penny, a dime and a quarter on the ground, and thumb the discrimination knob while going over each target. That way you get an idea of where each target discriminates out. Usually if it goes all the way to max and it’s still beeping, it is a quarter. After a while of using a Tesoro and thumbing it. You will be just as accurate in identifying targets as the detectors with a screen and target ID. Even though I now have an Equinox and a Deus 2, I still love my Tesoros and will never get rid of them.
Yes, I received them a few times from other vloggers for Telegram. I knew it was a spammer. I have sent many comments to CZcams about it and have not had a response about it back. Hope you were able to get them to get rid of that spammer. Coin spill equals lots of cupcakes.

Nice little hunt, Bill. I think the hardest thing for me would be the tones and lack of VDI readout. While I typically go from the tones, having the VDI to confirm what I am hearing is always nice. Still it looks to be a quality little machine, especially for someone just getting into the hobby.
Very true.... that is why I would stick with the NOX in the grass... It is fun in the tot lots and yes, I will use it if I take someone along. It hits the targets well....
Did you ever take it out of all metal mode? If I left it in all metal mode around here, I’d have enough steel to build a car. L O L you should try it with the knob turned up to discriminate a little bit more and see what it does with the knock
I started with it dialed all they way to the right and did not even pick up a surface bottle cap. Then turned it all the way back to all metal. I will get it out and play with it more.
Dig it all. Forget discrimination unless it is an area with huge amounts of similar types of trash. The more you dig the more you find. Edit: some of my best find would still be in the ground with discrimination. All metal for the win.
I do dig every thing. Around here in the parks, there are plenty of pull tabs and bottle cabs. That’s why I prefer going to the beach. And while I am at the beach, I know it’s ringing up as a bottle cap, or a pull tab, or a piece of foil. But I still dig it. I had a one. Which is usually foil. If I did not dig it up. I would not have found a platinum ring. Good luck on your hunt. Thanks for the reply
Most of the time I would say yes. If I ever have a yard sale I am sure I could get a buck or two for some of the bling rings.... I will take the cash though
Is the Tesoro an older detector? I don’t think I would use this , because you can set it like the Vanquish or Nox. Thanks for the information, nice coin spill. 🤗🤗🤗🤗⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I had a Cutlass II Umax for several years. The old Tesoro's are fun machines. They were way ahead of their time in terms of weight and balance. I used to like to use mine to give my head a rest from all of the settings on my Explorer.
Where did you find the Tesoro? Set to disc. Using a pull tab increase till it crackles test with a nickel and gold. When you hear crackles sound move on.
With you cutting out the zincs, only problem with that is it might cut out Indian head cents and gold and silver rings. Keep up the beep, good luck and happy hunting
Hi bill the only thing thats off putting with that tosoro is you have no idea what you are picking up so its a dig all with it and could be a lot of un necessary digging if you know wat i mean bill

Well the name fits. I like the discrimination but would run it on all metal for my hunts. Maybe if I was looking for wheat pennies in a spot where I was not looking for anything else, I might try zinc disc. but it would cut out gold so not sure.

Hi Greg
You should try the Stryker z60. Other metal detectorist have done depth test on it. They say it can detect targets at least 10 inches down the ground.
I will look into that one. Thanks
you are getting rich and richer by the moment mr bill
Unfortunately the gas tank takes all my change... well what Christine doesn't get....lol
Finding a bling ring is cool but wouldn't finding a quarter have more value!
I have been wrestling with this idea
Most of the time I would say yes. If I ever have a yard sale I am sure I could get a buck or two for some of the bling rings.... I will take the cash though
Is the Tesoro an older detector? I don’t think I would use this , because you can set it like the Vanquish or Nox. Thanks for the information, nice coin spill. 🤗🤗🤗🤗⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I believe it is retro. I was told the company is no longer. It was fun in a tot lot but I agree.... would not use it in the grass.... thanks
I have a tesoro cibola and I am very satisfied.
the fire with the characters they look like the fry crew characters from McDonald's
Yes... I showed Christine and that is the first thing she said....
It seems like it’s a very good machine for discriminating. Next thing we need to know is how deep will it go? Catch you on the next one. Happy hunting
True... Someone who has one said he could go about 7 inches down with it?
Have you ever talked it to beach yet I have one walk around Nevada desert all metal finds every bullet and shells
Where did you pick up the Tesoro? Fun machine in its day. Not much for depth but a lot of fun to hunt with.
It was sent to us by one of our followers. Very kind gift.
I had a Cutlass II Umax for several years. The old Tesoro's are fun machines. They were way ahead of their time in terms of weight and balance. I used to like to use mine to give my head a rest from all of the settings on my Explorer.
That was a good treasure hunt. Wonder if the cars lights work? Getto buy yourself lunch.
I love unearthing a car like that.... lights are for show only... I did go and have a nice lunch after... thanks
Where did you find the Tesoro? Set to disc. Using a pull tab increase till it crackles test with a nickel and gold. When you hear crackles sound move on.
It was sent to us as a gift from a follower. It is awesome and thanks for the great info. Gonna play with it some more.....
With you cutting out the zincs, only problem with that is it might cut out Indian head cents and gold and silver rings. Keep up the beep, good luck and happy hunting
Very true... since I am gonna use it mainly in tot lots I will probably just keep it on all metal mode. Safest way to go
massive coin spill, comon Bill leave something for the rest of us
I was getting the same Spam-Thanks what site should I watch your metal detector or other videos?
Our other video channel is called natureszoom. Trains, hikes, scenic and drone stuff.
Huge coin spill.
Right... I think it is one of my best... and mostly quarters and not pennies....nice
Still curious if it would detect gold nuggets? interesting detector.
Hum... I don't have one to try it with but it would be good to know.
Hi bill the only thing thats off putting with that tosoro is you have no idea what you are picking up so its a dig all with it and could be a lot of un necessary digging if you know wat i mean bill
Exactly.... stick with the NOX in the grass but it is fun in a tot lot....
@@DigginSoCal think id stick to the nox for all the other wud be ok for someone that visits you that dont have one i have one that i think is older than that one it takes 3 of them 9v pp3 batteries in it
@@johnsalt19 agree... this one takes a single 9v battery.... not bad. The Vanquish takes 4 AA's....
Hi bill, great video as always! Have you any idea of where i could get a tesoro now they are out of business? Been thinking about if for a while for introducing my gf to the hobby
Where did you get that ? They stopped making them sadly
One of our followers offered it to us. I am thrilled to have gotten it.
Tesoro is the Italian word for Treasure...very cool hunt...discriminate zinc??
Well the name fits. I like the discrimination but would run it on all metal for my hunts. Maybe if I was looking for wheat pennies in a spot where I was not looking for anything else, I might try zinc disc. but it would cut out gold so not sure.
So today how are you liking the Compadre ?
Whats that tip you have on your pro pointer? I use plasti-dip but interested in other options.
Thanks
They are protective tips. We have some links in the description area in some past videos. Check about 4 months back. They are the best and save the pointer. They come in a 3 pack.
Found the link
