Most Anticipated Queer Releases of 2020 | April-June

- PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU WATCH
As I mentioned in the intro, a lot of release dates are currently being delayed for a few months or even a year. Just between filming this video and editing it, nearly 10 release dates changed. I did the final edit and included updated release dates where I know them, but for the next few weeks I will regularly come back and update the dates in the description so they always reflect the newest info. Thanks so much for your understanding! I hope y'all still appreciate hearing about 50 queer releases, even if they aren't actually releasing from April to June of this year.

Is it weird that I prefer to read queer middle grade? I love YA books but there's something that just warms my heart thinking about a young middle grader picking up a book and seeing there's nothing wrong with how they feel and they're not alone.
No, its not weird at all--i love them too, especially since my parents often want me to read those instead of YA 😂 but it does feel great just to see it slowly become normalized
I honestly can't believe that there were 6 whole queer books I had no idea about that I found out through you and this video. Honestly, you're doing the lord's work
also my birthday is on may 5 and i already know how I'm spending my birthday money
Okay I didn’t even know about half of these and I just added SO MANY to my TBR 😭❤️
Feel ya 😁🥰
My little gay heart is bursting with joy, I can't wait to get to pretty much all of these!
Hi, as a gender nonconforming gay person living in Turkey this video warmed my heart with joy. I appreciate you and the safe space of wonderful content you created! I'm so glad I discovered you through Samantha (thoughtsontomes). You've just become my new favorite channel and i am going to go ahead and devour all the content you create. Have a great day/night! 💜
The cover for The Friend Scheme looks like Draco/Blaise fan fiction and I am here for it!!!
I am SO HAPPY you made this! There are so many books on this list I didn't even know about, and I'm really looking forward to all of them!
My TBR just skyrocketed, thanks for this!
I’m so happy that this sort of video gets longer every year! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤
Thank you so much for making these lists they are SUCH an amazing resource ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I added so many books to my TBR 😍
So many amazing recs - and lots I didn't know about ❤ I may have just pre-ordered quite a few of these - ha ha! The Ship We Built is a definite stand out!!
AHHH!!! literally squealed when I saw the notif for this and holy fricking heck?? I would’ve missed out on almost half of these??? :0 you’re truly a life saver lmao ❤️
I just subscribed to your channel. I love all your videos. I Just grabbed my notebook and pen. Loving these upcoming book titles. Ready to spend some money. Great video!!! Stay safe😊😊😊
I met Zeyn last year. He's super cool (and cute). Didn't realize his book would publish so soon! That's dope!
yay! got so many recs! bless you 🥺❤️
The scapegraces sounds soo good. Well many of these do. The falling in love montage is one of my most anticipated books of the year.
Wow I have got to read Her Lady’s Honor, thanks for mentioning it! Sad that there are so few historical f/f romances but I think that may be starting to change.
I live for these videos!!! I'm so glad that you are helping us find f/f rep in books cause I've only been reading straight romances in books lately and it's making me sad lol!
Ohhhhh, guess my book wishlist got at least seven titles longer. And all these covers are so stunning??? The cover of the friend scheme is probably my favourite, though closely followed by Felix ever after. Also I'm not a romance reader (yet) but her lady's honor speaks to me. Thank you for putting all of these together in one video and going the extra step to try and keep the list of release dates up to date! :D
I’ve been unapologetically stalking your goodreads to see all the queer books you’re anticipating so I knew already about these and already added them 😂💚 I cant wait for all of them
most of the books i was interested in i went to goodreads to add them and they were already on my list😄, but this was a great video and reminder to look out for the books in the future
sometimes i find it hard to find queer books so i’m so grateful for you & your vids :* thank you thank you thank you
All Boys Aren't Blue absolutely blew me away!!
Because of your videos, I was able to snag the library copy of Bonds of Brass before anyone else. I just finished and I need the next book asap. It's not just a rebranded Star Wars fanfic like some people led me to believe
So excited for all of these!
I love these type of videos! I'm so excited for the friend scheme, cemetery boys and meet cute club😍the Dark tide is also pretty cool
I'm really just out here binge watching your videos with a pen and paper and writing down all the books
"I will read any queer novella that Tor publishes, it's who I am as a person" honestly the same! I adored every single one I've read. Plus Zen Cho's writing is super fun. Plus setting reminds me of The Untamed. Ahhh I can't wait for that one.
I've also added 10 other things on my tbr so thank you so much for this video.
I usually try to find books with specifically bi characters on Goodreads and most often it ends with tears. These recs are perfect. Again thank you.
I got an ARC of 'Bonds of Brass' from a convention in February and I just ordered a finished copy because I LOVED IT!! It's such a fun read, I love the characters, and am looking forward to the rest of the trilogy! I added 'Spell on Wheels' and 'The Order of the Pure Moon Reflected in Water' (that cover is AMAZING!) to my Goodreads. Thanks for the video!! ^-^
The “where we go from here” is really famous here in Brazil btw! It’s a book I’ve been meaning to read for so long but I know the topic is really hard to read so I’m waiting for the right time for me. But this book was really well-received I’m Brazil when it first came out ❤️
I'd like to add Sword in the Stars.
It's the 2nd book of Once & Future (which is an female King Arthur retelling) and came out on the 7th of April.
Snow White and Red Rose is my favourite fairy tale of all times! So Circus Rose is the one book I need YESTERDAY o.o!!
Thank you a 1.000 times for dedicating so much time and effort into this video! 💖💜💙💚💛❤
I am so excited that there is going to be more Spell on Wheels!
YAAS Check Please!
I hadn't heard about most of these. I don't know what my problem is but something about the cover and description of The Falling In Love Montage had me tearing up - I'm so here for it (Maybe that's a lie - my problem is that Im a pisces. and a mess). Some of the ones I'm most excited for are Felix Ever After and Subtweet. I'm also stoked for Cemetery Boys even though it's been moved.
uuuhm all I can say is thanks, I put alot of books on my list because of this.
The ones that stood out I put on a To Buy are
The Order of the Pure Moon Reflected in WATER
Stay Gold
Bonds of Brass
Check Please
AND I already had The Fascinators on my list but you reminded me to go ahead and preorder since we're really close to its release date and I love when book surprise me in the mail haha
Hi Cece. Thanks for the list.
I clicked into this video not expecting to hear about multiple books with demisexual and asexual representation, and it brought me to tears. It means the absolute world to me to see ace rep in books! Thank you so much for making this video! 💜
Oh my gosh there are so many I just added to my TBR 🙈
I just read "Check Please!" and oh my goodness, i started screaming and i fell in love with the couple!!
Why so these all sound so good?! My wallet can’t take this!
I had no idea that the lead of Six Angry Girls was asexual, I’m even more excited now (if that’s even possible lol!)
I was already so sold with the cover and the title but now the excitement level has gone off the charts
So many books I just added to my TBR. I think I'm most excited to read Elysium Girls because I love historical fantasy so much, oh my gods, so queer historical fantasy is just the best thing ever.
That’s a great list. Thanks.
The Scarpegracers sounds fantastic!
Conventionally Yours is one of my all time favorite books!!!
💜😭💜 I just added every single one of these and my poor TBR.
Ou my god I just stoped at 14;07 pq one of the main characters is Brazilian or half Brazilian and I’m so happy!!! I’m Brazilian and I have never read a foreigner (for me) book with a Brazilian character in it! So excited aaaaaahhhh
i would like to thank you for giving me a BUNCH of excuses to not do schoolwork because I am reading
Out! by Miles Mckenna needs to be added to this list!!! although I think the release date was changed too :(
I knew this video would be so bad for my TBR
holy shit I didnt know Spell on Wheels was going to be more than a standalone!!!!!!!
Im reading a book currently named "Date me Bryson Keller" and I got to say so far so Freaking Good!!! It reminds me a little bit of To All The Boys but it´s so funny the main character it´s hilarious , it was just what i needed to read during quarentine, it was published on May ninetieth
I'm suprised you didn,t include Clique Bait I think you already mentioned it before? :)
I had to constantly pause the video to go add books to my goodreads reading list....
OMG, yeah the cover of Bonds of Brass really looks like Finn and Poe. Hahaha
"And the cover is rainbow glorious..."
Somewhere Elizabeth Moriah is shaking her head in annoyance... 😂😂😂
I thoroughly enjoyed The Love Interest by Cale Dietrich but didn't hear a single person talk about it. I really hope his new book gets more buzz
my TBR just doubled in size
If you're interested in (more) non-fiction anthologies - Non-Binary Lives, edited by Jos Twist, Mega-John Barker, and Kat Gupta just came out on April 21st. I'm waiting for my copy in the mail.
BONDS OF BRASS SOOO GOOD!!!!
I know this was posted a while ago but does this book have a happy ending
Have you watched Motherland Fort Salem? It’s about a military school for female witches and there is a f/f relationship and it’s so good!
Yeeeeeeees 🏳️🌈
zeyn joukhadar is an amazing person i had the privilege of going on a google meet with him today. his books are really interesting!
The state of us gonna get compared to Red white and royal blue, especially since the protagonists are a Latino and a white blonde too.
omg, i *am* brazilian and did not know about that book wtf
Swimming in the Dark sounds amazing but it might be a little too close to home given that I'm Jewish and my girlfriend is Polish and living in a still very conservative homophobic Poland.... and I love Giovanni's Room. Lol what are the chances
Aaaah I love covers with representation, but I don’t want to put myself to my parents by reading or buying some of these books :(
Why does Verona Comics sounds like You've got Mail but like.. gay?
where is CEMETERY BOYS 😳😳😳
Tori Ashley Matos the release got moved to September so it will be included in my next video!
Maybe dumb question but I really don't know.... what is a sis person? "One was trans and one was sis."
KC Watkins it’s actually a “cis” person which is shorter version of the word “cisgender”. It just means that a person identifies as the gender they were assigned at birth. So I was assigned female at birth and I identify as a woman so I’m a cis woman ☺️ hope that helps!
@@ProblemsofaBookNerd Thanks. Something every day right?! Appreciate.
I love diversity and representation in books as much as any other person in the LGBT community...BUT, some of these books just sound AWFUL to me, there is a difference between representation and tokenism. The characters in some of these books literally gave me a headache. Cara is mixed Chinese-black, Muslim, trans woman with dyslexia with two adoptive dads who sit in wheel chairs and are native American. Meredith is demi - bi curious Syrian Jewish girl, who is overweight raised by her abusive Indian carnival show father. They fall in love in a world where everyone hates them etc etc.... it's like common people, just write a good story. Just checking off all the boxes so that you can win the prize of most WOKE book does not make a good novel!
Ok, or, just think about the fact that these can and are real people. Just because some people's lives feel like "diversity checklists" to you does not mean that their stories are less valuable. I know the people that are in these books, they are friends or acquaintances who have yet to see their own story in fiction. A book being about a white cisgender heterosexual christian boy on a football team with divorced parents isn't any different, its just that those people have decided to believe that those qualities are the "norm" when they aren't. Just because my friend is a queer woman of color in a wheelchair doesn't mean that she doesn't deserve to be at the center of a story just as much as Chad from next door.
I'm glad that you've seen yourself represented in fiction - and so have I! I am a white cisgender ace lesbian and I have seen elements of that in a number of books I've read. In fact, I have more than one book to read that will feature a character who is like me. But queer people don't all have the same luxury. White trans people don't have that luxury. Trans people of color don't have that luxury. Disabled queer folks don't have that luxury. So, no, these books aren't checking off lists. In fact, I said on book after book "this is ownvoices". This is an author writing about their own experience. A trans Syrian-American guy is the main character of a book because an author was writing from their perspective. Queer black girls are writing from their perspective. Queer women are writing rom coms because fuck, if heterosexual white people get that then we should too.
I'm sorry if this answer seems longwinded but this comment is exactly why I make videos like this. Read what you want, but just because a book features someone who is extremely different than you doesn't mean that that book is forced representation. Stories are universal, but there is no reason for the same type of person to be the main character every single time. In fact, it seems limited to think that should be the case. Look at all of the comments on this video, or any other video where I recommend diverse queer books. There is always at least one person saying "Oh my god, I'm finally going to be able to read about myself in a book". I make these videos for them.
@@ProblemsofaBookNerd I think you missed the point. The point is the books should be at least somewhat believable or the vast majority of readers aren't going to appreciate them.
As much as you may ''dislike'' the ''boring'' white, straight, male story, the reason these books sell is because a lot of people pick them up and can enjoy the message.
What some of the books on your list have done though is become SOOOO niche that they will never even reach the mass market. I get what you're saying it's written so people who are ''niche'' can have something to identify with, but arguably if you want to celebrate the advances the community has made then the community is more helped by having broad appeal.
No one is saying you can't have a black trans person as a main character in a book, but then put them in a setting where there are other characters at play the ''majority'' can relate to. We need the majority to read our stories and to see them as normal and mainstream so true changes in attitude can occur. That won't happen when you write a book where every single character (except of course the bad guys - who are white and straight) is some incredibly niche individual. It's not realistic and it's pandering and honestly kinda insulting. It's the gay equivalent to someone saying. Black people will watch any movie as long as the lead character is black.
No - gay people deserve smart books, with smart characters, with realistic settings that have a chance to reach a wide range of people.
