Solid video brother a lot easier to watch you do it then through messenger the little things I missed when I first did my tune
Cheers man, thought it may help people with how to do it themselves
Bro, this vid is going to be my guide and tutor for the next month! Thanks heaps for your content man, been wanting to tune the ecotec for so long now. Just get laughed at when i ask pros to tune a stock eco.... welp, ill just do it myself now 👌
Thanks for the hard work it takes to share this information
Anytime mate!
Hi Mate , thankyou for posting this video very helpful indeed , I had intermittent no start with Vy wagon now it starts first go every time cheers
James
Glad it helped mate!
Thanks for the vid. Im sure this will help a lot of people. I've linked to this vid from pcmhacking to get some more eyes on it.
The BCM heart beat is the syncronisation between the ALDL devices in the car. The BCM sends a 'heartbeat' and then all the other modules in the car send their message at given times after the heartbeat. This stops the messages from the different devices in the car colliding with each other. Then once they've all done that there is a really small gap for any connected tool to announce that its on the bus. So, when its syncing its the PC getting the timing right, then finally announcing to the car "Im here, please stop talking to each other (disable your chatter), please go quiet and let me take over so I can flash the PCM".
The 3 ways to achieve this are to
1) let OSE Flashtool do what it does in the video where it syncs with the car and tells all modules its taking over
2) pull the BCM fuse which stops the heartbeat in hardware so all modules go quiet
3) flash on the bench so that there are no other modules.
1 and 3 are best, in 2 the modules are not silenced and if they start talking again mid flash your going to have problems. The reason you saw the bar graph go across 4 times in this vid is because the flash chip is 4 banks big, so each sweep writing is one of those banks until all 4 are done. Then finally the last bit was fixing the checksum. The checksum includes some of the data on the PCM, so the checksum in the bin you started with can not be correct as its not known in advance whats data is on the PCM eeprom which includes the car vin. So at the end of the process it knows what the correct checksum is and can do its update. I think the very last part after the flash successful was shown was the PCM resetting and booting up and OSEFlashtool showing that all is good and it can still talk to the car on the new bin, finally leaving you in 'connected' state with the new operating system.
Hey Antus, appreciate the wise words of wisdom! Also would like to thank you for the great work you and your team have done at PCMHacking!
I have also made a video about how to bench flash and make that harness up, it is floating around on my channel as well, feel free to link that one as well if it helps you guys out 👌
@antus666 hi mate is it possible to flash a vy PCM with a diy ALDL cable, i made one up a few years ago using i think an rs 232 chip and wires into the obd plug with only 2 wires. wondering if it would be safe to flash with that. or any chance i can buy a cable through you, cant contact through pcmhacking.net as it wont allow me too make a profile...
thanks
@@ryhans1172 yes you can use a homebrew cable with this software as shown. user signup will be open again from tomorrow.
That is awesome! Love the lumpy cam note! Subbed and liked 👍
Legend! Appreciate it mate!
Gotta love the cruiser in the background
Cruiser?
This is gonna sound mental in my 3.8 ecotech open headers 👌
Actually sounds worse. No where near as defined
I love This bloke , keep it up love the content
Cheers man, appreciate the support!
Awesome information mate cheers
Cheera for the support 👌👌
Verry much appreciated cheers man
Dude you are an absolute legend! Would love a bit more info on safe tuning a turbo ecotec. Just finished mine and I'm a bit stressed on getting it to the tuner as unfortunately trailer is not an option.
Leave the intake pipe to the throttle body off and drive to the tuner, put it on at the tuners and she will be all good man
@@RKGarage hey mate sorry to bother you again, been playing around with tuner Pro but I can't seem to get the lumpy idle. Any chance I could use one of your bin files please?
Any chance there could be a vs commodore v6 ecotec vid coming??
Just for anyone curious about all the files he loaded in.
Bin-> The actual PCM / tune data
XDF -> A "lookup" file of sorts for TunerPro, it enables tunerpro to identify / label what is in the bin file (that's where all the folders and drop down menus come from @ 2:43). Without this file tuning would involve sifting through pages of HEX data.
ADX -> This is a definition file for the dashboard in TunerPro, the ADX tells TunerPro how to interpret the live serial data, it allows you to log parameters and view real-time data (O2 sensors, MAF sensor, Speedo, etc).
He doesn't really go into logging and tuning the car in this video so the ADX is irrelevant, although the Bin and XDF files are necessary.
This guy knows 👌👌
I have a standard vys2 auto I flashed this file VY_V6_$060A_Enhanced_v0.9e.zip and after flash iv got no spedo , how do I fix
Legend 💯
Can you reflash a vz ve sv6s and ss's mate if you got a video up could send me the link cheers
awesome stuff. is there a way to get a map sensor working with the stock pcm to replace the maf?
Yeah there is, but only with Kalmaker tune, $1400 from select few tuners only
Pretty sure that heart beat stuff it's looking for is something to do with the bcm and if I remember correctly I'm probably not but you should be able to stop it from looking for it in the options for the car I beleive...
Yeah I remember reading somethibg about that, and you can pull the bcm fuse out too apparantly
@@RKGarage yeah pretty sure you just turn chatter off I think it is or there something you can select to stop it but I can't remember
Its correct that it comes from the BCM but its a necessary part of getting the car ready to flash. Just let its do its thing. More details in my other comment.
Keep up the awesome work cheers mate you're a legend! how do you get it to lumpy idle is it in the timing? Sounds sick
Cheers man, i had to change about 17 things to get it to work haha
@@RKGarage good work great videos to.explained well nice and easy
Hey mate I have a v6 auto first time tuning download all the programs and everything what do I need to change for vats on or off and what is vats meaning
Vats is security mate, have it turned off otherwise it wont work
@@LTurboDieselx czcams.com/video/4G73US9m4WE/video.html
Hey mate, i was wondering if you would be willing to share how you made it idle like that. Ive tuned my stuff before but never figured out how to get them to do it with the stock ecu parameters.
Check out my latest vid mate
You essentially 'force' real cam overlap by making the idle ignition tables advance and retard very quickly from positive to negative values (in degrees). The movement away from MBT (not really MBT cos it's hard to find at idle) really quickly screws with the torque and makes stuff move around giving cammed idle. On a more sophisticated ECU you can use cam phasing and change the actual overlapping period in the cam timing (if you have variable cam timing).
There are no idle ignition maps touched in this. Not possible on the factory firmware and software available for these to do that.
@@RKGarage Keep your secrets then 🧙♂
That's why I haven't made it public yet.
What you stated is the normal way to cheat it 100% haha.
Sadly tho, that isn't an option for V6 commodores vs-vy at least
Yo, guessing you k ow a bit about ecotecs, just curious...how much extra power could you make from a tune when the engine is stock?
5-10 hp maybe
Just like you mate I was waiting for something to fuck up. Fuck'n glad it didn't.
Anyway thank for being our lab rat cause I know there's a lot of us out here that were probably second guessing ourselves on a few things? So thanks mate I appreciate what you did. Cheers!
Haha yeah, was the millionth time i've flashed an ecu, but I have bricked enough of ecu's with them in the car 🤣
Is HP tuners work for vy v6? And what i shold do when obd not comunicating to scan devices? I wish to help me
Nope, hp tuners does not work. This is also obd1/aldl not obd2 like your scan devices would be
I know its an older video, but was that a stock exhaust on the red vy?
Just had a catback with 2 mufflers in it man
Hey mate, love the content but I’m just wondering I’ve put a big camshaft in my VX and just wondering if I posted you my ECU could you flash it for me and how much it cost roughly thanks mate
Hey mate, definitely can do. Hit up my business page RKGarage Electrical & Performance
Any chance you could show more in-depth to changing the fueling graphs and any other similar related graphs , tried looking for your lumpy idle tune on pcm hacking couldn't find anything
There is no need to change fueling or timing, the1's enhanced files are basically optomised as best as they can for standard ecotecs and l67's
@@RKGarage I mean in the event where I'll add a turbo and be pushing more fuel and air ?
Is your lumpy idle tune available to download somewhere ? I wouldn't mind an idle like that on my 2002 WH Statesman v6
Sorry it isn't as this is not a tune that can be used on the street.
It also isnt safe for the motor
Is lumpy tune safe for the motor and to drive as normal or will it blow it up
So having flashed the enhanced bin file, with making edits do I simply need to 'get bin' with the flash tool then open it in Tunerpro? After that with putting the edited file in the ecu do I simply just 'write cal'? Is there any chance of bricking the ecu like with writing the bin? Any info on this is appreciated as I'm pretty new to this.
Thats completely wrong
Re watch the video and do exactly as it says
@@RKGarageNo no, what I'm trying to understand is about editing the file in the car, I've already flashed the enhanced bin file into it and everything works as it should, I just want to know how to then edit the file that's currently in it and update it to the car.
Literally that...
Edit the tune thats in the car and write the cal...
@@RKGarage Ok and is there any further risk of wrecking the ecu or is it fool proof? Sorry for asking a million questions, just trying to understand it and not ruin my car.
Have you tried to flash an L67 bin onto one of these ECUs?
No, it bricks the ecu.
Awesome. Does this allow you to turn off things like an o2 sensor, egr
It sure does
@RKGarage cheers man, that's sick. Is it pretty straight forward just to do basic on/off stuff like that? I fucked one of my o2 sensor bungs in my dump pipe and I can't be bothered fixing it 😂 rather just turn one off.
At WOT throttle im getting over 500 G/S on AED diagnostic? Transmission slip at 1100 rpm at 5200 rpm? Is that ok? I need to tighten up the shift pattern! Any reply appreciated cheers 👍
Yeah thata correct from memory mate.
Unsure when it comes to the auto, I only deal with manuals
Thanks heaps for the quick reply 😊
Do you mind me asking what you change for the lumpy idle ? I dont understand tuner pro 🤣
there is a few settings that need to be changed to make it happen
@@RKGarage any chance you could email me the file or let me know what need to be changed ? I wanna do this to my skid car 🤣
Ok do a tune for my wh statesman supercharged and a lumpy idle tune as put it all in a ecu and sell it to me my car is running a 10 psi pulley ?
Sorry mate, cant tune L67 ecu's
They are memcal based not flash based
You are a legend
Cheers for rhe support 👌
@@RKGarage Hey mate, what table should I be in for the lumpy idle?
There is about 17 of them you need to change to make it work
@@RKGarage Oh true, can I contact via email about how much to mod my bin?
@@RKGarage convinced this is a conspiracy with cam manufactures, I've been researching for a week now and have not been able to find how to do it lol
What did you use to connect obd2 port to the usb port in your computer
Isnt an obd2 port for starters
And in the video I stated it was an Envyous Customs ALDL cable bro 👌👌
@@RKGarage yea thanks man just researched it definently going to try it now ahaha
Yeah man worth it, only 80bucks and can do a tonne with it
Can you tune l67 With stage 2 cam on this Website? Thanks
If you have the gear to erase and write to memcals then yeah mate
Also the idle is in the cam FIRST then in the tune to either smoothen or roughen it up. I would like to see someone smoothen up one nasty overlap cam.
Lol no. And have done.
I want that BIN file 👌
Hi there just wondering how much you would charge to do a computer for a v6 vy do t wanna bugger mine up doing it
What do you want done to it mate?
@@RKGarage can I get your email?
@@RKGarage the vy has twin 2.5” exhaust straight through, extractors and twin tunnel ram. Need maf and air flow sensors removed. Wanting a tune thrown in it car is being used as a burnout car
@@RKGarage can u send to nsw
@@braydenmccann3579 need to go kalmaker tune to remove maf, $1300
can we get lumpy idle tune?
You can if you figure it out.
Hey mate can this be done on a vs series 2
Hey mate, VS are all memcal/chip based. Need a eeprom burner and uv eraser to do them.
When is it appropriate to write cal?
After write bin
Will this work with a 1997 vt commodore
No it wont mate. Vt's are memcal based, or more commonly referred to as "chips".
How common is it to brick an ecu? I think that’s probably my biggest fear 😆 also, do you need to have your ignition on?
Easy as hell, and yeah key to on
@@RKGarage sik! Cheers bro! I’ll have to write down all the steps and have a play. I’ve got an old ecu in the shed I’ll plug in and play with first
Hey man any way of you doing a hectic crackle tune on manual vy v6 man ?
Yeah man there are ways to do it
@@RKGarage if you can play around with it and get it to crackle hectic I'll be happy to pay for it man and get it
Ill give it a crack in 2.5weeks when I'm home from work man
I have gotten it to crackle a fair bit but not enough for how people generally ask for it haha
@@RKGarage sweet as man keen as
@@RKGarage thought I would check in any updates on it yet
What windows software do you need
I literally state it in the video, and state I have left links to it all in the description.....
Hay mate 1000cc injectors boush what would base injector rate be
For tuner pro?
83.546 msec/g. Fuel pressure may screw around with that, gut hit me up if she doesnt start like that and i can re calculate with your exact fuel pressure if you know what it is
Hay mate how do I adjust cranking fuel on vx v6 car won't start and when I pull plugs there wet with fuel every plug
Check for spark first
Sounds like it has no spark if every plug is wet
Shouldnt have to adjust cranking fuel unless if injector settings and or fuel pressure isnt correct
Deff got spark on every plug pulled them and checked them
Hey mate, love all your content since i found it. Was wondering if you would flash an ecu and send it over to me in Qld if i payed you for it?
Cheers
Cheers for the support
And yeah mate can easily do that!
Bro how much for you to flash my ecu
Page up for power :)
You know how it is 👌👌👌
I wish I found u two months ago when mace sent me two junk tunes
Oh boi, their tunes are junk half the time sadly!
am i able to get this tune?
Not really for road cars man
@@RKGarage have all the software and cables to do all this just not sure how to make it idle like this have only fucked around with simple shit on a $200 vx
Vt the same ?
Nah vt is memcal based
Lol i tried, i failed bricked my ecu buy another one try again retries just kept failing
Can I have your ldel tune
There is no need, factory makes the car idle perfect
there are flashers that allow you to rest the flash count of the ecu to prevent or undo bricking. all those bricked ecus can be brought back to life !!
where would you be able to find the flashers?
