@@geok9765 Weapon switching is the same as reloading, you can't auto attack during the weapon swap, and your weapons do have limited ammo so you WILL end up swapping your weapons, making you unable to auto attack for a short time.

I think Vars is underselling how versatile graves is in the jungle. It’s not just about build and runes, it’s also about play style. He’s not just a strong scaling champion and power farming jungler, he’s strong early and can beat most junglers 1v1 which allows him to invade. He’s one of the few junglers that you’ll see gank at level 2 because he has one of the strongest level 2 power spikes in the game. He can split push and team fight, and of course, he can power farm. Being so unpredictable makes it very difficult to play against him, but the graves player has to understand what combination of runes and items and pathing is required to win a game, which helps explain why challenger players have such high win rates and bronze graves players have such low win rates
Level 2 Graves is one of the best champions in the game
I was always scared of playing him because he was such a Pro Player jungler and I didn’t want to mess up. But one day he was free to play and I tried him out. Instantly I was like “Oh, I get it now! This guy is insane.”
Someday I’ll come back and put some serious time into him. But I want to focus on my mains (Eve, Kayn, Hecarim) and learning to climb.

I love hearing new players learning and experiencing the game. I’ve been playing the game for 9 seasons now so sometimes the game can get stale and seeing the game from another person’s perspective is so cool.
Graves IS the carry jungle; tho he's so hard you can simply play kayn, hyper farm, and basically do the same BUT graves has a lil problem compared to the other carry junglers.
Kindred: he's hard as fuck but scales very very safely and has a lots of dashes to not get fucked, he also can get "fed" with marks; and his ult is very very strong even if you're 0/10
Kayn: like kindred he has very safe scaling and an almost impossible to screw up gank, even if it doesn't end in a kill, then after getting red (because blue is useless rn) you're just immortal.
Then, what does graves miss?... UTILITY AT ALL and a non interactive way to farm; you HAVE to invade you HAVE to gank you HAVE to outfarm and you HAVE to win 1v1 to be usefull; he's hit or miss, no way in the middle; and since he's a melee you get in a kinda toxic place where
Graves won early: "lol i dash in oneshot everything that moves and have 300 armor"
Graves lost early: "i cannot even kill my raptors!, why?!"
Graves is broken because he's an hypercarry who can fuck half the jungle early game; but you have to be ahead or you'll be outscaled very very easily

Hecarim and Graves are what I call "Toolbox" champions, because they provide a good amount of everything essentially, therefore good players are extremely strong because they can utilize everything he has to offer properly, and bad people still can do well because his kit is simple enough and provides enough simply utility to make it possible to play even if the pilot is bad

@@calmrag6143 But high elo/pro players still main him. You wanna know why? because just like this vid mentioned graves can just stop doing risk, ignore his team and focus on powerfarming so he can hard carry at lategame.
Of course not everygame is winnable but the fact that graves has multiple options like powerfarming for lategame or tracking enemy jungler for early game pressure and invades is exactly why the best junglers in the world favors him.
@@blurryface5744 Yes, I completely agree, but the comment is saying anyone of any skill level is able to do well on graves which is completely false. Playing graves requires a certain amount of finesse and understanding of jungle pathing to excel with, and is not as simple as hecarim.
@@blurryface5744 what?, if graves powerfarms he's a clown; you have to invade and win early or you'll simply get fucked in melee; lategame is also very hard because if you get caught out say goodbye to life
I think Graves is also an extremely strong early game as well, can invade most junglers in their first clear and can tempo and snowball hard.

Every time I play Graves I always have a ritual of putting on a DOOM track and playing with it on. There's just something about Graves and his whole kit that just illicits boomer shooter vibes to me in ways I cannot put into words, but I love every minute of it no matter if I win or lose.

Idk what it is about him, but for some reason I feel like I deal half the damage anyone else playing graves does, despite hitting all full combos. I’m an asol onetrick, I don’t know how he feels better to play than graves
Requires practice on playing graves. I too am an asol main but I also play a lot of graves mid. My guess is that your playing him like a ranged character when you more or less just want to get right up into their face.
Graves has animation cancels and rythem combined with some good positioning to get those Q bounces off walls. Just takes practice just like Aurelion swole

you are probably hitting people with your autos from max range and missing some of pellets if you auto someone with graves when you are up close to them every pellet will hit which will make you do 20 to 30% or even more damage than you normally are, like a shotgun in real life the closer it is to the target the more effective it is

Graves is the definition of "no shit all skill." Even when an item becomes OP on him you still have to be mechanically good at Graves to manage his weird hitboxes. He's very easy to learn but very tough to master and while a Silver can play him effectively and get decent farm seeing an incredibly good Graves player is scary.
You can also kill lane graves if he runs out of mana. Nobody ever thinks of it bc he is mainly a jungler, but he has huge mana costs, and his prefered playstile is to perma shove the wave, meaning he will probably have to use 1 q every wave, or every 30 seconds, more if he wants to poke under tower
most lane graves takes presence of mind instead of triumph (if they go precision tree of course), as long as u hit ur auto to ur lane opponent, ur mana will not run out quickly. the only time i would see a lane graves ran out of mana super quick is when he's playing with the standard assassin build where u would go domination for the main tree with coup de grace + alacrity instead of presence of mind + alacrity in secondary tree
@@slavchems4759 you underestimate graves mana costs. Q is like 1/4 of his mana pool early on. If you are forcing him to quickly push the wave and fight you he will run out of mana, even with presence of mind
@@alex2005z yeah Q is 1/4 of his mana early in the game, but u literally dont need use it everytime to shove waves, ur auto can wave clear better than most fighters/skirmishers. u would only need to use Q a lot when ur fighting mages, cus most mages has better wave clear than graves
@@slavchems4759 yes, thats why I said "if you fight him". If you just stand there and see who can clear the wave better he wins, but you can fight him to prevent him from just pushing the wave and getting away with not using abilities

Same can be said of any low elo player playing anything with even a little skill expression.
@@butterflyfx57 My friend insisted on buying cull because he said pro players do it all the time. We told him that it only work at pro level because they are not playing solo they have teammates to protect them from harass and they don't have mediocre cs like him. I love how people read pro builds and think they can just copy it.

So, I experienced an interaction with Graves on Teemo the other day. I blinded him then he proceeded to auto me and do less damage than normal. Another two times in the same match I blinded him and he proceeded to auto for less damage on a different champion. Just felt the timing of this video was a well-timed coincidence to alert people about this whether they have the Graves or the Teemo. I believe the Teemo blind only blocks one of Graves' auto attack projectiles instead of all of them.
Reworked graves was the original Tank Assassin champion, due to his old E as you said and his sustain with items.

When I play graves, the biggest problem I have is running out of mana if I don”t take at least 1 mana item. That’s pretty much one of his only weaknesses.
I've only had this problem when playing him top lane since jungle has mana regen

It’s funny i’ve never played graves in the jungle only in the mid/top even tho I main him, his gameplay is just so unique than most laner and it’s true you can avoid gank easily
I fucking adore Graves. He was the reason I downloaded League back when that “A New Dawn” cinematic came out and saw him in that being such a dude.
When the jungler change happened it broke my heart because I just couldn’t keep up playing with him in a role I can not stand and seeing him thrown into constant overpowered and underpowered states when before, he was such a reliable and easygoing ADC pick for me. I quit league awhile after that but even to this day, he’s one of my favorite characters ever (not too thrilled with the lore tweaking him into being an absolute idiot/slob storywise but I don’t hate it that much either).
For a second I thought you were going to whine about Riot making him gay and I was gonna burst out laughing.
Everything you said is exactly my experience. I loved Graves in s5, I still do, but its not the same.

Ironically enough, I had a graves who was Jungle and carried the game. We won.
The Graves player had like 18 kills. 2 deaths and 8 assists.
And its new information to me that they changed his lore.
I only been consistenly playing League since October or September.
I played some in 2018 and 2021 but that was that.

great video, however graves can do really well into tanks by going crit : shieldbow /galeforce(if you're courageous ) into ldr and IE/BT make you unkillable and shred tanks with cut down.
Wish you could have delved more into just how broken his W is. Literally turning off your monitor if you cant get out of it fast enough. Nocturne ult except the area you can see is smaller than the tri-brush.

Basically you technically get Melee bonus in form of range bonus
using only AA AA E AA does truckload of dmg but this is situational item on bruiser itemization

Mid season 8 through 9 graves is the reason i had to quit jungle for so long until recently after quitting league for under a year and coming back to play the roll that got me hooked. While graves being still amazing brothers me at least shyvana rn isn't hoy garbage and is so close to getting her much needed rework
i dont if anyone can relate to this but the reason i like playing graves is that he sorta reminds me of doom guy from doom when it comes to gameplay, i would go fleeting footwork and run and gun my enemies shouting "FUCK THEM DEMONS" in my discord withmy friends.

You mean the Ranged Bruiser Assassin Marksman Caster Hypercarry is popular? No way! It’s almost like he has the most broken jungle kit ever conceived of and has been hilariously overpowered since his rework!
He is one of the least autopilot junglers to me. I have to constantly calculate how to preserve my e and kite monsters toward the other camps to maintain my e stacks as much as possible and get them high, i know this is useless but i just want to have my e stacked, he is only under udyr with whom i have to get 100% eficiency of cycling the stances in the correct order and make use of my passive and empowered stance.
why no one plays idea: Vladimir/Kassadin

Justifiably popular. Even though I'm an iron 2 with a 14% win rate, I still think that Graves is one of the coolest dudes on the rift, as well as an example on how to write gay people in stories. Also, I like shotguns in FPS, so I usually gravitate to those that have a shotgun. Sadly, I'm trash at this game, so I don't main Graves or Kled. Instead, I main Bel'Veth, because she's Neji Hyuga.
I tried playing Graves today and felt like glass. Two games later, I played against him and he seemed unkillable, at least before I got him.
Conclusion: Shotgun go boom boom

I think it makes sense that Graves is so popular. He's probably the most selfish jungler to ever exist (yes, even above Yi or Karthus), but he's selfish for a reason. There's probably no worse feeling as a jungler than playing vs a decent Graves that has winning lanes. You can't do anything about it, he will choke you out of the game (and not in a sexual way). He can invade you and kick your ass because he takes no damage in the jungle, his damage is dumb early to compensate for his slow reload mechanic, he can nearsight you (god Riot, please I BEG YOU, REMOVE THIS STUPID MECHANIC), has mobility that also makes him tanky, you can't invade back because he most likely cleared his entire jg on respawn due to how fast he farms and on top of that has lane prio.
As a jungler, I hate Graves, I hate every time he's remotely good because he's everywhere and god he's the most annoying champion to play against. But as a jungler, I also play Graves. He's a really good soloqueue champion, he's strong at every stage and has the tools to carry any game you do well in
And that's the problem with graves:
If i'm playing a support jungle i'm suppose to give up my own farm to gank and pressure lanes.
If i'm playing an hypercarry i'm saying "fuck my lanes" and giving up early pressure to carry late, i also have to macro my way to not be invaded and hope my team doesn't fuck up
Invades/1v1 junglers are supposed to win early by getting fed or else i'll fall of...

He can gank basically everything from 3 screens away pressing w and e, if lanes are behind he can hyper farm and if lanes are ahead he can invade; he can basically do anything alone

Ww main with almost 1 mil mastery 960k, for me he is not problematic but he is problematic to everyone else on my team. I'd still say my winrate vs him IF my team if seasoned is still pretty good...his evades are just annoying af tho.

ok i know it aint just me, but i know my skill level and i know i cant solo carry, so all i do is play top lane tank (mainly orn) and sup cause i know i have to rely on my team to win. Maybe just me? i doubt, but its something ive felt when playing rank especially if the enemy bot lane (when im sup), top lane (when im top) and of course jg are just very skilled and i just get steamrolled by em

You say you'd much rather deal with Graves than Evelynn because he's just a ball of stats, but stats are much harder to counter than mechanics. I cannot kill a graves that heals more with one auto than my entire team damages him for 5v1, but I can predict an Evelynns map-movements and place a control ward to counter her gank.
Quite frankly I don't think that any champions should be able to be both tanky, and have high ranged dps. If you have high and relatively safe dps, then you need to be squishy.
super-damage and super-tanky on graves are pretty much entirely mutually exclusive. you can still feed the champion and make him feel unbeatable, but that's an issue in player performance, not champion performance. grit stacks only grant armor, take a long time to build, and fall off fast, so you can play around them if you understand the way they work. a fairly simple solution is just picking an AP champion. he *can* still be tanky through his goredrinker build, but that build gimps his burst damage very hard and he loses most of his mid/late-game pick potential from building it.
@@beppermint4092 Few counterpoints to that: A. You don't always have the choice to pick an AP champion.
B. You don't need to be super damage to be an issue as a ranged character that can tank. Mostly because you can skip a part of the gap closing process and have a much easier time sticking.
C. Grit falling off fast helps you in 1v1ing, but the main issue with graves is his 1v9ing. Generally you don't get to pick the fight against him, your feeding and tilted teammate does. Leaving you to fight a very poor fight or lose baron. Where if you as 5 cannot kill him, and if he doesn't kill all of you he will get at least two (when he is powerful) leaving baron up for grabs for the enemy team.

A: picking bad fights doesnt make the champ op, thats just skill diff. There is nothing on graves that means you wont get to pick your fight when you want it.
B: he is only really tanky with the bruiser build, and you need to go in melle range to get your full value or you wont be in range for goredrinker.
C: his defensive stats need him to hit people and do almost nothing against burst dmg, against which he is quite vulnerable.
D: his effective range is much lower than other ranged champs as he wont get 4 bullets to hit at max range, so his dmg falls of a lot if he isnt close
@@alex2005z A. You haven't played solo queue if you think you get to pick your fights.
B. This video is about graves in general, not just graves right now. He easily gets out of hand in both tankiness and damage.
C. Again, great if you can pick your fights _but solo queue is chaos and bad people are the ones starting the most fights_
D. The advantages of range allow you to chase and kite, both those advantages remain.
Now excuse me while I do more useful things with my life.

I really love playing against Graves as a support, map is perma dark thanks to umbral, i can't facecheck without risking getting smokescreen autoed and ulted instantly dying while getting lung cancer from the smoke. I understand why people abuse this guy. Pretty sure he's the only champion in the game who can just get objectives for free 99% of the time thanks to smokescreening the opposite jg and he's also so good against most matchups.

Always felt like graves was a badly designed champ. After watching your video I can only confirm that. Yeah he packs a lot of dmg, but he's more stat-check than anything at the end of the day.
Feels like Samira, where they need to snowball really hard early game in order to carry. Cause once they get fed, their numbers are more than enough to burst anything in their field of view, even if they buy resistances.
While other jungle champs can still oneshot when even or behind, if the target is not too ahead. If graves is even, it feels like having a 0 kda lee sin at 25min, minus the utility lee can occasionally bring.

graves (as well as kayn) is probably the least favourite jungle to have amongst other super hyper duper playstyle thats all about them and he offers almost nothing for anyone else. its not even a champion issue but the fact that its like 9x amplified by ego (aka their unwillingness to help others unless its something in it for them aka taking all the kills and the whole double wave) makes it a nightmare to have on your team. and to top if of they dont ever do objectives cuz "i couldve done grump by now"

Graves does a lot of things well except for his below average ganking. But ever since power farming became the norm, Graves became a staple since bad at ganking is more of an inconvenience than an actual weakness these days.
