    Do you think that Amazon will force the new OS (Vega) to older devices? Vote 👉🏿 www.youtube.com/@Triple_M/community

    They are under pressure to stop side loading, we all know that. It will back fire and people will move back to Android TV boxes. Time to dust off my Nvidia Shield.

      Maybe they going the legal route, don't forget they got there own internet company coming, maybe they dont want anything to do with sideloading and 3rd party apps anymore sense they will be selling internet soon

    • @mw7967
      @mw7967 Před 15 dny +1

      It won't backfire. If the ability to sideload was truly a massive selling point in the streaming space, the Roku, and its locked down OS would not be the current market leader. Amazon isn't likely to care too much about losing the sideloading segment of their consumer base because these users were not likely invested in the Amazon ecosystem to begin with.

      @@mw7967Umm... Dude, when was the last time you used a Roku device?? The 2022 models and up (the ones that are more than $35) have a service where you can side load a few apps like KODI, Plex, etc.

    You nailed the reason that Amazon is going to their own software. They will most likely not be able to update the older devices if the system is Linux based. The reason that they wouldn't be able to update the older software is it probably would violate the terms of the user contract. If you remember the lawsuits that Roku had with Google, this would be even messier. Third-Party software usually has ads that will not get Amazon paid, an example is Bee TV. Somehow I don't believe that the ads run through Amazon or Google.

      You may be correct, however Roku controls 40% of the market and they don't really allow third party aps (ha ha). The truth is, the majority of the market for streaming devices doesn't know or care about the things that we do. They want to stream Netflix and chill. I actually hope Amazon fails with this. However, when people go to Walmart or Target, the two brands that they see they buy and Firestick is one of them.

    Sales will take a big hit. Good thing Walmart positioned themselves to scoop up all those lost sales with the to be released Onn box pro with 3gb and 32gb of storage …No restrictions , forced ads and apps , no blocked
    ADB function. Fire devices in the trash bag

    I'm not very technical but I've been wondering for a long time why is it that amazon can change operating systems at a small scale and at a larger scale windows can go from windows 7 to windows 8 and 8.1 and to windows 10 and now windows 11 but Nvidia shield tv pro can't go from Android TV to Google tv ?.

    A few quick observations: Although it appears likely, Amazon has yet to confirm a move away from an android based OS, specific to its fire devices. Additionally it's important to realize that Amazon's market share in the streaming market sits in third place, at just 16%. In fact, the leaders in the market are Roku at 49%, followed by Googles Chromecast at 22%. This would suggest that Amazon would likely benefit from the development of its own OS, offering better/longer software support and greater hardware longevity than the current approach allows. Frankly, the sideloading community represents a small but vocal minority and those who might leave the fire stick behind, because of Amazon's assumed move away from an android based OS, likely aren't part of Amazon's target audience anyway, as those consumers who do opt to sideload aren't likely subscribing to Amazon's services. I would advise against sideloading, if you use Alexa for home automation anyhow, as doing so could present security risks. The vast majority of firestick users are using these devices in their factory default configurations. Even if Amazon loses some market share, they will still see it in terms of a net gain, in terms of a tighter user base.

    Given that Android was built on a modified version of the Linux kernel, I would think that at least the 4K models of the Firestick, might be compatible to accept Vega, which is built on Linux. Time will tell, but your right about 3rd party apps, although who knows, there are clever hackers out there which can probably get some emulators to work on it.

  • @hehfahq
    @hehfahq Před 17 dny

    There is not enough storage on most fire sticks to download and install a new operating system. So many people have fire sticks with as little as 500 MB storage remaining. That is not enough room to push the update files necessary. This is why all fire sticks don't even get upgrades in Android versions. They only get small upgrades with possible UI changes, security and other minor tweaks. Technically they could push these upgrades to the Cube and the Max with 16GB storage, but that probably only accounts for 10% of the fire TV devices owned. I don't think they'll bother

    I thing Amazon will use Vega for all future devices, update as many legacy devices to Vega as possible and depending on their age and limitations, if there are any device that can not adopt Vega, Amazon will continue to use Android until they are publicly phased out.

  • @jclpuddy

    So funny I heard they released it on Echo 5 and Netflix won’t work, they’ve told other apps like them to make new apps for Amazon new os and they’ve all said no. Saw that they’re putting an android patch on the new os so Netflix etc will work. Amazon seriously never gets it right 😂

    • @mw7967
      @mw7967 Před 15 dny

      Regarding Amazon asking developers to build new apps for Netflix and the like to run on echo devices, this is frankly untrue. The API is standard across the industry, so building apps from the ground up is no longer necessary.

    I don't welcome this change keep things as is. We don't need them to have too much control. Think Google as an unlocked android. This change will turn it from android to Iphone for lack of dumbing it down

    How much ad revenue are they even getting when they are usually only promoting their own shows on Prime

      A lot apparently!! They actually go harder for the 3rd party launchers over the 3rd party apps.

    • @tomscurlock3
      @tomscurlock3 Před 18 dny

      If you look at Roku's annual report, they make about $2 billion per year in ads. They do not realize all of the Ad revenue, they split it with Google. Amazon perhaps can generate more. You should be able to get the ad number from the annual report for Amazon.
