Rambo: First Blood Part II is a 1985 American action film directed by George P. Cosmatos and co-written by Sylvester Stallone, who also reprises his role as Vietnam War veteran John Rambo. A sequel to First Blood (1982), it is the second installment in the Rambo franchise, followed by Rambo III. It co-stars Richard Crenna, who reprises his role as Colonel Sam Trautman, with Charles Napier and Steven Berkoff.
The film is set in the context of the Vietnam War POW/MIA issue. In the film, Rambo gets released from prison by federal order to document the possible existence of POWs in Vietnam, under the belief that he will find nothing, thus enabling the government to sweep the issue under the rug.

Today's generation just doesn't understand creative license. I agree the movie was never laughable or cheesy. Creative license when used properly enhances a movie. It's a stretch of reality. While still maintaining the plausiblity of story. Rambo has always been a plausible action hero never laughable

Just noticed that Rambo Part II and Back to the Future were in theaters at the same time. Imagine traveling back to 1985 and seeing these movies on the marquee.

I really enjoyed listening to this commentary whilst watching this movie. I always learned some stuff whilst watching the movie because I pulled up the trivial track since the Blu-ray collection of this franchise I have has the trivial track of this movie and I learned quite a few fun facts about the making of this movie.
There was elephant glass used for the field sequence when Rambo burns the bad guys in it.
Sly had to swim in filthy waters during the sequence where he kills the Vietnamese bad guys in the boats like half an hour into the movie and he washed his ears with rubbing alcohol I think so that he could avoid infection.
The awesome sequence where he kills most of the Vietnamese people and Russians in the woods after he buries Co was difficult to come up with when it came to how Rambo was going to kill these guys to name a few.
Sure it isn’t as good as the original masterpiece in my opinion and it did kinda miss the point of the original, but I still enjoy the movie. It has great action sequences, some intense sequences, a nice romance with Rambo and Co, a phenomenal music score by the late great Jerry Goldsmith, and overall great action movie fun to watch if your in the mood for some macho and masculine dude mowing down a bunch of stroomtrooper level bad guys. You can’t get any '80s like this movie or any other movie like this that came out around that decade. They don’t make ‘em like that anymore. Gotta love the '80s.
With that said, I enjoy this commentary, you made great and fair points about the movie, and I will continue rewatching these movies on DVD or Blu-ray in the future. Take care.

About Rambo not using exploding arrows in fifth film; In rejected script for fourth film and original script for Last Blood, both of which had very similar stories, Rambo uses exploding arrows. In that rejected Rambo 4 script he uses the arrows to kill dozens of corrupt cops and blows up their cars while attacking the mansion belonging to the main villain, Teasle from First Blood, who in that script turned fully evil since the events of first film. And in original script for Last Blood, Rambo uses the arrows to kill bunch of mercenaries during the final battle which was much much bigger in the script than in the film, and blow up the tunnels and bury some of the others alive. I can't tell you enough how superior both of these scripts are to the final film, even though i still liked it. But man, reading those scripts and seeing what could have been... what a wasted opportunity. Funny enough, James Mangold was in talks to direct Rambo 4 based on that script, and it really would have been like Rambo's version of Logan, which Mangold directed.

They should have used that rejected Rambo 4 script for Rambo 5. Rambo taking on corrupt cops sounds awesome. Too bad it will never happen. Btw I learn so much from your comments. I would have never known about this stuff

@@TotalMeltdown2 Yeah it's too bad that not many fans know more about backstory behind their favorite films. And speaking of Rambo, in that rejected script for fourth film he also fights against illegal immigrant smugglers, voodoo obsessed biker gang, sex traffickers and Mexican cartel. It's really fantastic script which i dare to say would have been even better film than Rambo 4 which was made and Last Blood. There were other rejected Rambo 4 scripts written between late 80's and mid 2000's, in which Rambo would fight against different bad guys like for example right wing militia, white supremacists, terrorists, drug dealers etc...
And there were some rejected scripts for fifth film as well, like one titled Rambo 5: Last Stand, in which Rambo deals with meth dealers who are terrorizing some small town, and of course Rambo 5: Savage Hunt, which was based on novel Hunter by James Byron Huggins, but which honestly i don't think would have really worked as Rambo film, since it was going to be a sci-fi horror with Rambo fighting some monster in Arctic Circle. I know people still keep saying how it would have been like Predator, but that's total bullshit let me tell you, because the story of it was nothing like Predator.

36:29-36:58 Lol. Agree, you don't have great scores nowadays & great composers like Goldsmith, so on. Great job with commentary.

This is the definition of a badass action film and its sad how underrated this and Rambo 3 are. I do prefer Rambo 4 over this, but net to that movie it definitely has some of the best carnage in the franchise.
