Lyrics:
You're caring too much about what I say
You're wondering too much about what I do
And baby, Your Imagination
Imagination's got the best of you
It’s a shame after 52 years together Daryl hall and John Oates go their separate ways I grew up listening to them
One of my favorites Hall & Oates songs, and perhaps the most underrated.
What’s the rating?
I have a lot of favorite songs from these guys because they are just great!
Too bad these two fellows can'T reconcile (for now). Like 50 years of Hall and Oates never happened.
1982-2024 STILL LISTENING TO THESE LEGENDARY ARTISTS
I have LOVED Hall and Oates since the 80"s and am still listening in 2021, who"s with me?
Me!!! My fav band ever💗💗💗
Me
Me!!❤️😎👍
Same here.
I'm ahead of you.... 1975 here.
The most underrated H&O song ever. It's so damn good.
It got a woman whom I knew to like her first Hall and Oates song. She surprised me, she had some soul going on inside that hot mess of a mind that she had!
It's Too Funky, people definitely slept on this one.
Agreed....Hall & Oates were a great duo, some amazing songs...
Exactly me thoughts
@@tall3431 They are still touring.
By FAR the most underrated Hall and Oates track. This song is groovy as *hell*
What was the rating??
Daryl Hall’s voice is like silk. Gorgeous.
Yes
The 80s was ruled by Darryl Hall & John Oates...ahhh the 80s what a wonderful decade
You mean Michael Jackson and Prince?
This song is totally underrated. Have no idea why this wasn't a much bigger hit..
What was the rating??
@@jumpinjojoIt peaked at only #33 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Well, it was a pretty big hit.
A back-end single that just slays. They are SOOOO damn goood!
What an absolutely PERFECT description of one of H&O's most UNDERRATED songs!! Thanks for that! :)
The video for 'Your Imagination' was filmed at the Bronx Developmental Center, which was a treatment center for developmental disabilities. It was designed by the prominent architect Richard Meier. Years later the complex was sold by the State of New York, and was extensively altered. It is now an office building.
I've been wanting to know the location for years- thank you!
🤓🤓🤓
It sucked.

One of their more underrated songs
Out of Daryl Hall & John Oates entire discography, in my opinion, this track has the most kickass instrumentation! The bass, the percussion, the saxophone... Absolutely mesmerizing!
This song is pure gold
My absolute favorite from Hall & Oates.
Such a killer track from the Private Eyes album. Love the groove and Daryl's usual standout vocals. This song should have been a much bigger hit. It's that good.
+Shane Anthony I was thrilled when it finally came out as a single (the 4th from that album, if I'm not mistaken). When I got the album I thought it had huge hit potential, but it stalled at #30-something on Billboard. Still think it's a great track.
+SrTubular
I agree. I actually think this song and Head Above Water are the two best songs on the album for me.
+Shane Anthony Your Imagination was my favorite the first few times I played that album, but Looking For a Good Sign started to build on me later on. Head Above Water is another good one, yeah.
Shane Anthony , I agree with you as well. Yes, this was the Groove back in 1981. There was a DJ in Detroit that played this cut constantly on the R&B station WGPR, 107.5.
So underrated, to be sure. I listen to it over and over and over...it makes my day. I miss the Eighties so much!
One of their most under noticed tracks. This song was and still is amazing!
ThatGuyInPhilly
Funny, because it was actually my favorite on the LP. It was their big hits which were unnoticed by me. Well, not really unnoticed, but they didn't grab me and give me happy feet like this one did. Great song for doing the robot. Their big songs were more pop than whatever this is, funk rock or something. If there was some genre allocation for this, I have forgotten it.
Not talking down their other songs, mind you, just relative to this one. I always liked their music.
Oh you are so correct didn't play it enough.
ThatGuyInPhilly agree 100%
True! And I’m so glad you didn’t say underrated!
The bass is monster. Love it.
Agreed the bass kicks in and that's the hook. Game over.
Killer bass trax
That was 80's
So Powerfull !!!!!!

Right???
T-Bone. RIP.
Daryl's "organ" (synth) part makes it much more special than it might have been. Absolutely unique!
Man I love this beat!........I also love how Daryl and John always includes the whole band in their videos😎
They are one unit. Daryl and John write these songs but without the band where would they be?
@@susanbezio1529 Yes, but why have the sax player and drummer mime DH's vocals, unless they were showing off with DH's permission?
Also, the actual drummer on the recording is Chuck Burgi, a final member of Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, for those who care?
For always this will be my favorite H&O song. Love the whole CD.
I Can Go For That ! I saw Hall & Oates in Las Vegas Nevada in the Crystal Palace which was located at the Desert Inn which no longer exists . My wife was pregnant with my daughter and I always tell my daughter you're first Concert was Hall & Oates. 😂😂. Hall & Oates has so many engraved memories of yesterday. God Bless Daryl Hall And John Oates ! ❤❤❤
Summer of 2022. Can't get enough of these guys. My day feels wrong if I can't hear some of their music.
It's not just my imagination 🙂💙💙
I remember when I used to be the jealous kind
I got over it, now you're taking over my old line
You're caring too much about what I say
You're wondering too much about what I do

@@donaldfewell8908 Darryl Hall nailed it near the end of the song.
@@rooseveltmccarter6087 Yes!
I watch Live at Daryl's House. And it's hard to believe that Daryl Hall is 70 years old! Except for the hair style he doesn't look that much different than here!
mind blown.....thought he was like in his mid to late 50s. he looks amazing

+grungemetal1996
The beat and groove is so hypnotizing even T-Bone appears to be in a trance @ 0:58 LOL
+grungemetal1996 THIS was my favorite song off of the Private Eyes album. GREAT SONG.
+Dashland B yes! I also discovered that this is a great song to play while bowling. I played it on the jukebox and I bowled a couple of strikes during that time XD
***** I was born in the wrong generation. Lol I was born in 1996 and my parents got me into 80's music
u betta be LOL H&O supa cool guys
This shouldve been one of their hits.
One of my all-time favorites. Love that keyboard sound Daryl got.
He's playing a Prophet 5, set to sound like a classic combo organ!
@@organfreakthank you
I remember this video being played on MTV, fell in love with it first time it played, never really got a lot of airplay on the radio, I always looked forward to seeing it when MTV would play their Rock Blocks, when Hall & Oates videos would come up, I secretly wished for this video 👏👏👏👏👏
This song has a serious groove.
Been a H&O fan for decades and don't believe I've ever seen this video before. What a throw back to the 80's. This band is so experimental with their sound.
@#TEAM TRUMP Yeah, it's so cheesy that it's fun to watch!
my favorite song from Private Eyes....., cool
This is my favorite
love the bass line on this
me too
T Bone was one of the greatest musicians ever.
Hall and oates. One of the all time great musical duos. Spectacular
Love them! Can’t wait to see them on Sunday. I hope they do this song.
Daryl.........so damned cool.
Yes he is.
Daryl was mad sexy!
@Dandelion Ducks Are you sure?
Not Freemason, but a follower of Aleister Crowley, British occultist, for a time in the 70's. Converted to Judaism in late 60's to marry his first wife, Bryna Lublin. Raised as a Methodist, but don't think he embraces any particular religion. Free thinker might describe him better.
Have you heard the Christmas album that Daryl Hall recorded with John after his bout with Lyme disease- I think you'll find a very different vibe... And some of the best singing he's ever done: czcams.com/video/hS9ICNlUWGc/video.html
Hall & Oates was absolute fantastic in the 80ties!
The EXTENDED Versions are Killer of huge hits such as FAMILY MAN and OUT OF TOUCH.
BIG HITS, great musicians and Hall & Oates always friends forever...
I remember my good times in the youth...and have a tear in my eye...
...times never come back...
heimkinofreak003 Did you know that Daryl and John prefer to be called Daryl Hall and John Oats, not Hall and Oats? Because they consider themselves 2 separate artists who just get together and are not an act.
Family Man's extended version it awesome!
Summer of 1982. GREAT song!
+D Aiken HBO Video Jukebox...
+D Aiken
Actually it was spring of 1985
+airdriver I was there,in 1981-82 when it came out off the Private Eyes album.
Ur thinking of 'Live at the Apollo' L.P
actually got some air play pn KFI 640 AM Los Angeles
Such a great song, and I'm always impressed to see how much visual credit Darryl and John give their entire band in their music videos. So often now we see just the main artists in music videos, and Darryl and John could so easily hog all the attention, but they don't. Shows how selfless they both are with sharing their awesome music! : )
Good point. G.E Smith was always was game for making goofy faces for the camera :)
G.E. and T Bone always loved to ham it up in the videos...what a great bunch of musicians, their 80's band was amazing saw them 3 times, so underrated by the snobby music critics...
And Charlie the sax player still performs with them! He lives in Orlando. I saw them in September 2021 in Tampa and they still can rock your socks off.
@Shane Anthony Crazy, but I just got the reply notification today that you posted 4 years ago. G.E. was so much fun to watch!
@@alysonsomerville3654 They all looked like such great guys to work with!
I heard this song for the first time on a trip up to NYC to visit my father. I was 11 years old. Great songs have the same effect as forgotten memory, they are most powerful when they sneak up on you, appear out of the blue. This song caught me by surprise then. Just emotionally powerful. Thanks to H&O for this gift of pure emotion.
Wish someone could invent a time machine so I could go back to the 80's and stay there...No internet....no cell phones...just good times...
Amen, brother! And I wouldn't have married that jerk who gave me HPV (and cancer) either. Just saying! LOL
The internet lets you instantly listen to this song any time and not need to go to a record store
Then how are you going to write the comment for us for those that did read this comment?
And the summer of 82 would be the first place id travel back to
Daryl, hope you are feeling well, saw you live in 82. Love from Oz down under.
T-Bone = The Dude
Hall & Oates = Legends
Every song from Private Eyes is AMAZING
It was Commercial but I never heard the whole album H20 was great too ( my favorite). Along with voices all 3 albums got commercial like Michael Jackson Thriller in the early 80s I'm mad I miss them at Covelli Centre I miss the 80s 1980-1988
00:32 MY FAV PART
I never heard this song until a few weeks ago and now I can't get it out of my head. Looking back I think I had a low-key crush on Daryl
These guys were knocking hit after hit in the 80s.I loved this song I was in jr high. All the kids were dancing to this I amoug them.
COOL ASS SONG AND GROUP!!! THESE GUYS ARE ROCK AND SOUL ROYALTY!!!
You said it sister
I still listen to this song once a day. Never gets old
the Back-Up Singer is AMAZING!!!!!!
HER VOICE IS AMAZING
I am an old melancholic song lover. This beautiful sad song is awesome! G.E. Smith certainly adds so much to this classic!
I love everything they put out....
I remember this video. It's was on, Americans Top Ten, with Casey Kasum. 1981. This song should have been a bigger hit. But, Hall and Oates, had so many. This one just got overlooked.
Yeah, still listening in 2021.
obsessed with this song!
I remember MTV used to play this video a lot, and then after I saw Daryl Hall & John Oates live for the first time, I never saw it again. I wanted so bad to see it again! So glad it's here.
The good old days.
Always loved the song, never thought about it having a video. It was cute and interesting. I had such a crush on John Oates!!
And I had such a crush on Daryl 💜💜💜
I hear you sis!
Yeah, now that is really cool.
Of course I fell in love with this song in 2020
Some how landed on this song and remembered that I was actually a huge fan of them when I was around 10 years old...but not knowing there names !!
t bone groove on that bass rip t bone
Great bassline and player just boticed after years of seeing this video, Tom is playing a Gibson Ripper at the beginning , then at 1:33 of the vid he is playing a Fender Precision then at 2:52 he is playing the Gibson Ripper again
T Bone doesn't play bass on this album - he was in the touring band, and in the vids, but not on the album. John Siegler plays bass, as also did for most of Voices.
One of my top favorites legends forever I’m a 80’s baby but I love them much 😊
My absolute favorite song of theirs. I love the keyboards on this tune. Been listening to this tune since the mid-eighties😝
I wish they'd release all their videos on one DVD.
vielmaleo1970 me too...including all of Daryl's House.
Me too IOFFER had it but I think it's a fraudulent sight
Oh MAN yeah!!!
daryyyyyyyyyyl omggg im in lov with this guy
This was the fourth single from PRIVATE EYES. After "Private Eyes" (#1), "I Can't Go For That" (#1), and "Did It In A Minute" (#9), this one didn't chart so high (#33). Perhaps MTV and radio had decided that PRIVATE EYES had run its course, and it was time to make way for H2O ("Maneater", "Family Man", "One On One").
Still, it's an awesome song, one of my favorites.
DallasHammster The country was in a very deep recession at the time, and record sales were very poor.
You're right
.
The recession wasn't the reason, because the song would have charted just as high with lower sales relative to the rest of a flatter market. Two bigger reasons: English synth pop got very hot in mid-1982, and people weren't buying the single when they already had the album. I do think it merited stronger airplay because it has a great groove and a killer vocal.
Bill Slocum Agreed. It’s like “Hot For Teacher”, the last single from Van Halen’s 1984. It had the massive radio airplay and MTV exposure of a top 5 hit but it actually peaked at #55 because millions of people already had the album.
Always loved this one. Another forgotten gem.
I had never heard this song until I got their box set for my birthday. I love it !
I wish more people knew about this song.I loved it the first time I heard it.
"You're the one I like to touch, touch you, you, you, you!"
WE ALL NEED TO UNDERSTAND THAT THE DAYS WE LIVE IN NOW IS ALL ABOUT PRIDE AND E GO EVEN THOUGH THESE GUYS CANT GET ALONG I HAVE ALWAYS THOUGHT DARRELL TOGETHER WITH JOHN OR WITHOUT HIM THIS MAN CAN FLAT OUT SING !!!! KEEP GOING DARRELL YOU CAN DO IT !!! TAKE CARE
best song they have ever done
0:10 the power in that snap tho🤣🤣
lmao
How does this killer vid only have 31k views?? It's a crime!!
Because the tempo is slow, listen to the track on their Essential CD and put it to this video! Amazing! Could of been another #1
because foolish kids haven't a clue about music
+Jaime Acosta it's still a fantastic song
Dave Garofalo love the saxophone
Well ya know what they say, “Crime Pays” 😏
Two takeaways from this: The 80s featured great hair, and this is one excellent song.
one of best Hall&Oates song's and a bit underrated but I love it
i'v watched this video, before he makes part of Vevo Empire. I'm proud of this!
Daryl was very handsome!!!!
Philly heart at it’s finest....one of the guys best songs ever....Philly forever
I would love those jackets! They are cool in every way.
The bass is ace on this one boys.Thank you.
One of my all time favorites. It's just weird enough to be really cool.
Totally forgot about this song......Love this song!!!!! so glad I came across it.... gets me moving every time...
golden nugget song
I just discovered this song in December 2020 looking up classic songs to download. How did I miss the HO song. Damn this up there on my short list of songs to get me going. I love songs that start with just the drums and the bass.
Never knew there was a music video for this song! The vocal mix is different from the album. Great tune!
Mike X Not only the vocal but the entire package is remixes. I always preferred the album mix to this one.
How could this not have been a hit
Daryl Hall's voice is the fuckin magic man. I've also never seen band with this much sense and ability for a catchy chorus and brilliant tunes since The Beatles.
The true star of this video is John Oates' hair and mustache. Magnificent!
Lol..I'm back for a listen in 2019 :) Love this song!
Daryl Hall and Jhon Oates el mejor dúo musical de toda la musica.Sin duda alguna CLASICOS POR SIEMPRE
Should of done this at their RRHOF induction coming out just like this, except with the up tempo version like their Essential track. Wouldn't that blow 'em back a few rolls back?!
I can see myself diggin this riding in a silver 5.0 mustang with the 2005 9 star rims with it. With a Bose system with a shiny plad shirt high on edibles.
This one fell under the radar.for me.
Great group. They should do a tour.
Doesn't look like that's going to be happening anytime soon
The ultimate roller rink tune! :)
Never was a roller-skater, but totally dig your memory. Thank you for sharing!
OMGoodness!! As HUGE of a Hall & Oates Fan That I Am...Only 32, I've Been Listening To Them Since I Was About 8 Years Old...I Have Their Ultimate Collection CD and Their Greatest Hits...I Don't Think I've EVER Heard This Song Before. WTH?!
Awesome song. Love the late Tom T. Bone Wolks bass playing on this gem. Hall & Oates always came up with some great tunes.
Great song! I love Daryl and John! Best band ever😉😉😉
