I would have agreed with you in the 90's and early 2000's. I liked this music when it came out, but hated it after the 90's got started. A long with hairband rock. But, after enough time passed, the good music from this era is resurfacing, given new life by us as adults and a younger generation who doesn't have a sound of their own.

One thing about growing up GEN X , we were taught through music to manifest what we desired. Be it love, money, family or friendship, if we could dream it we could have it. But The Crazy part about that is , we manifested our future back then and why GenX is more at peace with ourselves now than generations before us and after. Long live the feral, the strong, the invisible, the seen and not heard. Love live GENERATION X.
Great song. I remember being in a bar about the time this song came out. Everyone dancing, smiling, drinks, no phones. Now in my 50's those days are long past. I was dressed in a jeans and blazer doing my best to look sharp/cool. Hair on point. I married in 2002 to someone who thought just that. Whew! It worked. 😊
Dan Hartman was a wonderful entertainer and such a handsome guy! This music makes me feel innocent and like everything is going to be fine. Thank you Dan Hartman...Rest In Peace 🙌🏼♥️
I loved the eighties! Born in 1960, I spent my whole twenties in that wonderful decade! I had a job I loved, and friends I loved even more. Young and carefree. Such magical times, full of laughter
You were a whole decade ahead of me....I was born in 1971, and lived my elementary school years through the late 70's, and my junior and senior high through the middle to late 80's...got to enjoy the best of the whole decade, growing up as a teen through it...the movies, the sitcoms, the music and styles, friends, and the goodtimes...🙂🙂
The love of good music should bring all of us together, listening with our heart and soul and instead of using our eyes, often times vision is superficial and biased,...that’s my Hispanic/Navajo opinion.
Yes but I'm old school yes not the 80s old school goes back like late 40s going from their 50s and 60s then the 70s that is old school mom and dad were from that time up to the 70s because mom and dad their pass history
@WinGate Mose This song was played at many junior high school dances plus during my sophomore year of high school at a talent show three classmates and I performed this song
I saw Dan Hartman playing bass for Edgar Winter in 1972 and 1973. He also did a killer Hendrix style guitar solo with a Stratocaster. The voice and writer behind "Free Ride".
I was born in 95' and I still found my way to the treasure trove of 60's, 70's, and 80's music. I have no doubt that alot of younger folks will find this music appealing.
I guess we all wish we could go back to our time as teenagers in the 80’s. My daughter loves all the music we were lucky enough to have in the 80’s all genres. Every month a new top 10
My daughter is the same. She listens to a lot of the music I listened to when I was her age and younger. She loves queen and asked to go to their concerts. I had to explain Freddie isn't here anymore.
This may be an '80s song, but it sounds timeless. It's got hints of Motown, disco, funk, synth-pop, bar-band rock, like it's the ideal synergy of pop music.
Ah the memories, 22 years old and a Jr at Texas Tech University, dang, being a young man through the '80s was such a wonderful time to be alive and truly the best times of my life. Now, 60 and still enjoying this music and I close my eyes and see myself walking to class through campus with my loafers, corduroy brown pants and short sleeve shirt my momma bought me for school and longer hair styled with wings to the sides, ah man, the memories, where did all that time and youthfulness go? Love and Peace everyone.
@@graysonbr Ah man, the best of times and music. Living through the '80's was an experience in itself, we were so very lucky, wouldn't have any other way. We had a great time, didn't we?
The days of no online exams. Lucky you. I hated online exams. It was like being a guinea pig in a big experiment where professors were tech clueless. I had two professors delete major class exams where we all had to retake them. This was around 2011. I guess it was probably a pain in the butt to have to write papers back in the 80's. Like you must be super familiar with the Dewey Decimal System. Ha ha! You probably weren't remotely thinking of the actual assignments as you wrote out your awesome memory in this comment. Meanwhile, I think I've got to Google 80's corduroy brown pants.
The VMA's were just on the other day and the 'artists' are anything but artists. The music is just terrible. So I checked out the Top 100 from 1984 and saw this song... a great song that everyone could listen to, young, old, white, black etc... A song for everyone w/o any hate, violence or division.
The 80’s is the only decade where everyone tailored their music to the same demo. You had Madonna, Prince, Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston who ruled the decade. Then you had older bands like Fleetwood Mac, David Bowie, Aerosmith who went to a more pop sound to change with the time. Even Whitesnake and Motley Crew had their power ballads. The 90’s is when MTV audience imploded because there were too many different types of music. Grunge were playing to one demo, HipHop/Rap were playing to another and Pop like Britney and NSync playing to another. What does MTV play? That’s why 80’s MTV worked.
@@chrisolivo6591 MTV imploded in the 90s because the focus shifted to so-called "reality TV" and talk shows, and away from 24/7 music programming. Also, MTV had a literally racist programming format at its inception. People forget that they would not play videos by black artists until Michael Jackson came along.
Amen....I was in 9th grade in 1981...that summer was my best year as a teenager.....I dated a woman Theresa Troiano in Syracuse NY. She's married now so why would she lie and say she didn't remember me? I dated her the entire summer of 1981....sadly her parents and sister Rita are all passed....? Oh well....weird?! Thank God my Friend Tony recalls....we had met her and her sister at Schiller Park pool....Tony wanted to date Rita and I wanted to date Theresa....she even Taught me how to FRENCH Kiss?????!!!!

Summer of 1984 had some amazing music. The whole year really, was filled with great songs and albums. As a young teenager at the time, this music really evokes such an overwhelming feeling of nostalgia, I can feel the summer of '84 all over again hearing this song.
Joshua Jeffries yeah because you haven’t explored what good music is today, you’re just showing the world currently that you’ve only scratched the shitty surface of today’s music, not to mention during the 80s people hated modern music too
@@kensword73 Not to mention that back in those days, people often claimed one genre or another as theirs, and were put off from a lot of good music by fans that only seemed to like either pop, or reaggae, or hard rock, or synth, and so on, and hate any of the other. The same kind of ignorance happen today: I've seen people claim that Aria Grande makes bad music and can't sing, but yes she can! Same with Sia, several of her songs is especially good if you feel down, heck, did you know she's the singer on "Titanium" by David Guetta? Then there is the songs made by Jeff Williams for the animated series RWBY and sung by his daughter Casey Lee, and it do sound good, just check it out, as well as the songs made by Daniel Ingram for My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. YES i just suggested music from My Little Pony ... but several of them are indeed good, just dare to check them out. .... Me, either...I was 8 y.o. in 1980, and graduated in 1989...got to live the best of the whole decade, I especially remember the launch of MTV, and how much my sister and I loved to watch that channel over the summer of '84....
Facts.
I turned 8 in 8/15 of 84. Between 1st an 2nd grades. .
I really miss this days. Mostly I miss the family that have passed sine then... I miss how life was back then.
Thank GOD almighty I still have my Mom.
@@danlc95 Hear you loud and clear....I was 12 y.o. in 1984, and somehow, we didn't need all of today's technology to have a blast...because it was all human interaction and the love of our friendships, instead of all this social media....
I was born in 1978 but will always claim to be an 80s baby. The music, the style, the movies...that whole Era was just such a vibe. I miss it.😢
One thing about growing up GEN X , we were taught through music to manifest what we desired. Be it love, money, family or friendship, if we could dream it we could have it. But The Crazy part about that is , we manifested our future back then and why GenX is more at peace with ourselves now than generations before us and after. Long live the feral, the strong, the invisible, the seen and not heard. Love live GENERATION X.
stop smoking weed, every generation had the opportunity. that is literally the secret of life
Yes! Gen Xer who was born in Plainfield, New Jersey in 1979!
Man,I miss the 80's! Hands down the greatest decade for music!
I was 9 when the decade began, 18 when they ended. Great time to grow up. Wish I can go back. 😢

😢😢😢😢😭😭😭💔😭💔😭🎼🎸💔💔💔
You should see him playing base in Edgar's Winter Frankenstein.....
Great song. I remember being in a bar about the time this song came out. Everyone dancing, smiling, drinks, no phones. Now in my 50's those days are long past. I was dressed in a jeans and blazer doing my best to look sharp/cool. Hair on point. I married in 2002 to someone who thought just that. Whew! It worked. 😊
Parabéns e felicidades sempre
Extra credit if you still have the jeans and blazer tucked away somewhere.
I was in HS. Memory city! Where did time go!
Who wouldn't want to be here in 2024?! Who wants to go back to when this song was released even more tho!!??

March 2024 love this song
I loved the eighties! Born in 1960, I spent my whole twenties in that wonderful decade! I had a job I loved, and friends I loved even more. Young and carefree. Such magical times, full of laughter
You and me. The same age in the same decade. Loved going out. We always dressed up.
You got me by four years (born in 64), yes the music in the 80's were GREAT!
The same age I know exactly how you feel, going through college in the mid eighties, care free
Hell of a lot better than nowadays
13 yrs old listening to this my walkman, riding my bike to Baskin Robbins for ice cream... WOW have times changed
I am confused.. a white dude sings this? LMA?
Lmao my mom thought this was hall and oates when she was a kid 😂
Good Life dude 🙏
Hall & Oates did do a version of this song.

The love of good music should bring all of us together, listening with our heart and soul and instead of using our eyes, often times vision is superficial and biased,...that’s my Hispanic/Navajo opinion.
There will never be another time like the 80s as far as music goes. I would give anything to go back to that time ..
Yes but I'm old school yes not the 80s old school goes back like late 40s going from their 50s and 60s then the 70s that is old school mom and dad were from that time up to the 70s because mom and dad their pass history

And yes it does sound like a Hall & Oates classic
This is in my top 5 favorite 80s hits
@WinGate Mose This song was played at many junior high school dances plus during my sophomore year of high school at a talent show three classmates and I performed this song

Class of 1984 here, getting old but still rocking it ❤❤❤
I saw Dan Hartman playing bass for Edgar Winter in 1972 and 1973. He also did a killer Hendrix style guitar solo with a Stratocaster. The voice and writer behind "Free Ride".
I'm wondering if this Dan Hartman was the producer for 38 special. Long love the 80s

I remember this being on MTV back when it was actually music television and not the garbage you see on that channel these days
Hi from Ireland
I guess we all wish we could go back to our time as teenagers in the 80’s. My daughter loves all the music we were lucky enough to have in the 80’s all genres. Every month a new top 10
My daughter is the same. She listens to a lot of the music I listened to when I was her age and younger. She loves queen and asked to go to their concerts. I had to explain Freddie isn't here anymore.
Sometimes I want to cry because the 80's went by so fast and now we are living in this shitty world .

Hanan Nimri Hahaha.. That about sums it up ‼️👌🏾
Totally agree. Never really understood how great that decade was.
TheSwabbie....The music was great, musicians were talented, life was slower paced, people were not rude and everyone respected others.

Dan Hartman was REALLY talented, I read about all he did on Wikipedia and was blown away. AIDS took him away WAY too soon, RIP 😔

The 80s music will never be surpassed. Even gets better as the years roll by.
I know. Their song writing, and singing are so pure. You can relate ino matter where you come from ..
Also movies. Sometimes they went hand in hand. If you had a Kenny Loggins song in your movie, guaranteed to be a hit.
You had to be there Mr. Youngun.

That's what happens to fine 🍷
This may be an '80s song, but it sounds timeless. It's got hints of Motown, disco, funk, synth-pop, bar-band rock, like it's the ideal synergy of pop music.
He was into all those styles of music
ABSOLUTELY!!!
Hartman definitely belonged in that select group that can do "Blue Eyed Soul" flawlessly.
you are absolutely right :)
I say most if not all 80’s music is timeless.
Every time I hear this song it makes me want to sing it LOUD.
Blue eyed Soul. what a voice. RIP DAN. Gone way too soon.
Same here sixties now, where did the years go!

That's just class....great memories indeed!

Brilliant words every thing was so good and the music the best ever 💞
The VMA's were just on the other day and the 'artists' are anything but artists. The music is just terrible.
So I checked out the Top 100 from 1984 and saw this song... a great song that everyone could listen to, young, old, white, black etc... A song for everyone w/o any hate, violence or division.
So do I
It was the best
Vdd..
I believe if we only had the 80’s style music being written today, our country would be in a better place.
To me, the 80’s had the best of everything.
The world you mean

Not to mention that back in those days, people often claimed one genre or another as theirs, and were put off from a lot of good music by fans that only seemed to like either pop, or reaggae, or hard rock, or synth, and so on, and hate any of the other.
The same kind of ignorance happen today:
I've seen people claim that Aria Grande makes bad music and can't sing, but yes she can!
