For people who aren't aware of strongman competetions, the shorter guy, Zyrdunas Savickas is considered the greatest of all time. If you go watch competetions, you can see Zydrunas winning them in his 40's while all the young guys can't keep up, truly impressive.

I'm Icelandic and love hafþór and what he has done, but there can't be any fan of strongman who doesn't love and respect Zydrunas for his pure strength and his character as a strongman, outside of the big 3 Icelandic strongmen, or even alongside them, he's my favorite ever strongman.

From when i was just a little kid to now, seeing Big Z competing in strong man was common and expected, that's why Big Z is just one beast of a legend! The most impressive strong man of all time. He might not be the guy who allways wins, but he's the guy that just NEVER quits!
If anyone Big Z is that guy. He‘s got a win rate of like 50%.
Guys like Hafthor and Mariuzs have slightly better winning percentages but they’ve only done half as many comps, which can be argued to be more or less impressive.
Hafthor is strong because of his training matched with his size.

@@grevengriff8609 he got beat by 8 reps on overhead, which is more than twice more reps than he could pull off, Z also got nearly two times more log lifts, with his lifts also looking cleaner. Thor is taller and arguably more athletic than Z, which gave him the upper hand in the 4 events that he undeniably won. He's also crazy strong, but Z, even considering it's past his prime, is much stronger statically and has the single best strongman track record in history. Thor is amazing in his own right, but BIG Z is and will always be the GOAT.

As Recent as 2005, the Deadlift record was 440 kg( from powerlifting) , 410 kg for the Strongman competitions, and now 16 years later, its at 501, it definitely going to increase again in the following years to come...

At the time of this event Zydrunus was out of his prime at 39 years while Thor was in his prime at 26 years so that's a major advantage for Thor. In spite of that both of them were evenly matched (though Zydrunus dominated more strongly in the events he won as compared to Thor's domination in the events that he won) and neither could be judged as stronger than the other. If they were both of the same age then the results would probably be one sided in favour of Zydrunus.

3. He has won more strength competitions than any other person in the world
4. He is the only modern strongman competitor to have won every major tournament
5. He has won more than 20 world-class championship titles, including IFSA, Worlds, Arnold’s etc

Remember there are 14 years in age between these two. Considdering how Big Z did here it truly prove WHY he have 4 WSM titles under his name and Thor only have 1. The washing machine throw and overhead presses was won by a large margin for Big Z. So once again he is truly one of the great without any doubt and this just prove it ;)
Exactly, there's 14 years of difference. Thor hadn't entered his prime yet. He's got way stronger and the only reason Z won 4 times is because the competition wasn't as strong back then.
Thor retired from strongman now, but in his prime, he would absolutely destroy Z in his prime.
Also the washing machine throw represents absolutely nothing. They were 2 completely different throws. Z had more angle, Thor had more height. Z also went over the line with his body while Thor's entire body stayed behind the line.

2nd as time moves forward as it does, people adapt in training methods and knowledge, thus improve them on getting stronger than the older generation.
Big Z have set more milestones during his career then Thor ever wil. The opponents was not easier to beat, Big Z just trained harder
Mariusz P, Big Z, Brian Shaw among others will always be considered Goats in strongman, not only for their 5, 4 and 4 respectable wins. But also for the milestones they've set and how they pushed the sport forward creating what we see today.
Tom Stoltman have more wins than Thor so he have done better just to make an example.

Zydrunas claims his static strength was at it's peak in 2015. I think what happened is that his muscles kept getting stronger, but his injuries kept accumulating.

I don't even think Thor started lifting weights yet 15 years ago.
It seems that Zydrunas have greater upper body strength (throwing washing machine, lifting quad bike) while Thor have greater lower body strength (carrying fridge, pulling cars).
Thor is also quite taller so he can walk easier carrying the fridges, and making bigger steps.

Carry requires upper body as does pulling and keg toss.

Max height keg toss - Hafthor Bjornsson✅
Car Pull - Hafthor Bjornsson ✅
Washing machine throw - Zydrunas Savickas ✅
Battery hold - Thor narrow missed the WR at that time by 5 seconds.
Bike press - Zydrunas Savickas ✅
However in 2014, Zydrunas was in his prime and Hafthor was only coming through the ranks. He peaked 4 years later in 2018.

Health and safety has come a long long way over the last 20 years, especially in strongman events. But I still can’t believe that no safety helmet has to be worn during the keg toss!!!!

A couple of these events remind me how strongman competitions used to be before they got a little too serious with real weights and real equipment. We see real weights all the time. It's much more entertaining to see: a fridge being thrown, weights containing cheese being lifted, arm wrestling, carrying people wagons and the list goes on. Huzzah! Guinness!
