#Eurythmics #Don'tAskMeWhy #remastered
Lyrics
Miracle of miracles
Look what the night dragged in -
It's a pocket full of misery
And trouble on the wind
You spoiled the best years
Of your life
You took them all in vain
Now you think that you're forgiven
But you can't be born again
And you say
Why?
You say why?
You say why?
Don't ask me why -
I don't love you anymore
I don't think I ever did
And if you ever had
Any kind of love for me
You kept it all so well hid...
Promises sweet promises
You kept them from your mind
Like all the lost forgotten things
You never seemed to find
Like all the disappointments
You displayed upon your shelf
Now you've got no-one to turn to
You've got no-one but yourself
And you say
Why?... - Hudba
One of the best Eurythmics songs...I'm surprised it didn't become a mega hit
Peaked at #40 in the States. An insult, really.
#56 in Germany 🥲
I agree, but maybe because it was too dark, too real, too sad, too haunting, although the world has changed since 1989, which seems so long ago now. Interestingly, it came out just at the time that the Waleses' marriage collapsed, and that it did so on camera was a changing cultural event, that such a prominent collapsing marriage could no longer be hidden.
I totally agree. On the other hand Sweet dreams, which I consider an average song (if not boring), is played to exhaustion
Потому что она белая, и это не толерастно. Песню с арийским исполнительницей не дадут быть известной.
Looking back at her old songs now I realise just what a stunning voice she has. She is naturally beautiful.
It never occurred to you in real-time?
I love 80s music but have had annie lennox on my 80s list for 2 months now. I'm enjoying her a lot lately. My co-worker had her on the other day at work in Pandora and I'm like who is that and before she could pull it up i said anne lennox and my boss said good job
NO IFS AND OR BUTS!
Totally agree..amazing woman xxx
Enchantingly beautiful
This was an instant classic for me. One of Eurythmics’s best, right up there with “Here Comes The Rain Again”. 34 years later and this song still moves me. 🥹
Since 1990
That breakdown at the end "and you say..." Always a pleasure to hear.
" Like all the disappointments you displayed upon your shelf.. " What an incredible line to have written.
You’ve got no one but yourself ♥️
Actually Dave doesn't get enough credit. They're both incredibly charismatic.....and he's soooooo yummmmy
Is she not one of the most stunning women you have ever seen? And her voice is divine
Gorgeous
She;s much better looking than you.
sadcore
I love Annie's self respect. She's my hero.
A superbly talented musician. A lovely lady, stunning figure and a perfect voice. She is just as sexy today as she always has been. Check out her 2014 hit 'I Put a Spell on You' for an equally powerful performance. Awesome Annie!
WAS NOT WAS.
Of my generation, she is the best female singer from Scotland.
Gilberto Arroyo-Rivera She is actually from Scotland.......Aberdeen to be exact !
Thank you, Madasa Brush!!!!! So Annie Lennox ,is the best female performer of Scotland!!!
@@gilbertoarroyo-rivera6956
I agree
Her and Elisabeth Fraser
I disagree! Annie is one of the best female singers from ANYWHERE.
Even though this wasn't a big hit. It was a very classy end to the 80's and the band's career. This was their last top 40 single.
Annie Lennox is one of the best singers of all time. Her voice gives me goosebumps
same
SHE WAS GORGEOUS; THOSE EYES LIPS AND VOICE! I LOVE HER WHEN SHE WEARS LONG HAIRED WIGS! THE VOICE IS AMAZING ESPECIALLY IN A WHITER SHADE OF PALE.
Her voice is so rich because she is classically trained in Opera. She's still HOT!!! What do you mean, she was pretty? lol
You're right John, Annie is still very pretty. I deleted my other comment that cast doubt, lol.
Much better singer than people nowadays..
H ΔΕΗ μας ξαναθυμησε αυτην την κομματαρα...!!
Annie Lennox is so beautiful
I've always loved this song. When she repeats, "I don't love you anymore." It's as if she is doing a purge, a cleansing. I think all of us has had that feeling. Love you Eurythmics.
"I don't love you any more. I don't think I ever did. And if you ever had any kind of love for me, you kept it all so well hid." Annie and Dave, geniuses both.
lol are you always this cheesy?
24 years later and I still get chills at 3:28 when Annie starts singing "I don't love you anymore." No one can do a break-up song like the Eurythmics!!
TarotMage ABBA
I do agree
@@pulibcn I'll give you that. But Eurythmics seem to have more of them: "My My (Baby's Gonna Cry)," "Thorn In My Side," "The Last Time," "Would I Lie To You?," "Brand New Day" just to name a few.
No one could deliver that line "I don't love you anymore, I don't think I ever did" in the way Annie does here. It's delicate and sympathetic but frigidly cold all at the same time.
Omg.....I couldn’t agree more...so many great memories of those times
1989 was 35 years ago and was such a rush to be young then.
Yeah
Songs had lyrics, singers could sing without auto tune, men were men and women were women.
I love the darting looks and intense expressions they all have. And of course the song is flawless.
Yes! And I have no idea how Annie swivels her head around so quickly (and progressively faster) to the words “Don’t ask me why!” It’s obvious that her anger towards him is building and building.
The song is flawless and the video is flawless. I must have watched it a hundred times when I first discovered it a year or so ago.
Да, смысл песни, энергетика максимально чётко передана в этом клипе 👍👍
Нордическая внешность самая правильная, соответственно самая красивая
...The moment when you discover that songs talk about real things an feelings
This video is perfection on so many levels: The music video on its own, the percussionist, and most of all, the beauty of Annie Lennox.
well the ending is uncomfy with the editing
Credit to the woman who did so many Eurythmics videos. I saw someone mention her in a comment on one of Matt Snider's Eurythmics reaction videos. (Or maybe SalvoG's channel?) Anyways, she hired such a wonderful lighting director here. The color palate: makeup/wardrobe, is especially lovely. Also great editing.
Annie's voice and Dave's guitar playing is pure magic.
YOU SAID IT!
Yesss
La batería me parece fabulosa también ❤️🔥
Sophie Muller is a brilliant director. This video is stunning.
The video gives me Twin Peaks vibes
Masterpiece.
Sophie also did Sade Adu videos as well

This video is really incredible. What a gem.
Her face is so unique and beautiful, just like her voice.
makeup helps lol
Annie is fucking timeless
I think this video is a great example how a beautiful face can still be beautiful despite the heavy (and in my opinion, somewhat horrendeous) makeup. The voice of Ms. Lennox just rocks.
Cheers ;)
TB Franci her makeup is fine, Madonna's is not

"De gustibus non est disputandum"
I am totally fine if you like a makeup on Annie that I don't like and vice versa :)
I suggest we agree though on that her face is pleasant to look at no matter the makeup, and that her vocal abilities are outstanding.
I have loved this song ever since I heard it in 1989. It is truly a masterpiece. It captures the end of a relationship in an exquisitely beautiful way and hits every emotion. Hard. Dave is brilliant with his musicianship and playing the role for the song. Annie….my god, Annie. That voice. No one comes close. She has to be one of the most stunning woman in the world (I say that as a straight woman). I am grateful for everyone that put their talent into this song. The raw emotions rip my heart open every time but heal it with the almost triumphant “I don’t love you anymore” repeated at the end of this song.
Annie is gorgeous. She should have mercy.
I have listened to this song literally hundreds of times and that line always gets me every...single...time. Just so heartbreakingly sad. Makes me imagine about a relationship ending like this. You've nailed it brilliantly.
BRILLIANT SONG, ALL THE BAND ARE PLAYINNG A PART FOR THAT CLIP!
Annie is extreme talent and her looks, well what can you say. She is magnificent, a performer of extreme talent level.
Annie Lennox should
never stop singing.
Her voice hasn't changed.
It's So Beautiful
She’s just announced that she will not be touring again.
Long term back problems.
How beautiful is Annie Lennox. What a voice, and talent. This should've been a Bond song. Gorgeous.
You're absolutely correct, never thought of that. It's at the same time as 'License to Kill' which would match the dark tone and 'I don't love you anymore' vibe as this film was also dark and marked Bond quitting HMSS in order to fulfill vendettas. Instead, the great Gladys Knight sang a forgettable remake of the Goldfinger theme. What could have been!
The drummer is having WAY too much fun for such a dark song :)
zavinullava He’s more animated in this version than the first one that I saw; maybe he’s recognizing that there’s something particularly special about this take.

It is not underrated quit saying that
@@dougraddi908 yes it is. quit saying it's not.
That rejection is sung so sweetly it's better than a declaration of eternal love.
Eurythmics' songs have a timeless quality. Just a perfect mix of acoustics, vocals and lyrics. Their music will always have a special place in my heart. Thank you ❤x
One of the best duos of all time.
When I blow out candles on my birthday cake I wish for a new Eurythmics album. Sigh
One can only dream😔

Eurythmics: Don't Ask Me Why
Annie Lennox: Why
Simmm!!!
30 years later I'm still listening to this in 2019. Don't ask me why ⭐💜💙🎵?
😂💀💀
Annie Lennox is just an absolute legend, and she seems a nice person too from any interviews I've watched.
Eurythmics put out some of the best quality music during the 80's. Not all 80's music was this great nor did it age well. I can see why some 80's artists don't like singing their old songs, they're probably embarrassed by them. This right here though is a masterpiece and timeless.
BlaqueViolet All 80s music aged extremely well given how we’re well into the heat death of pop culture.
Yes ! Them and Tears for fears came out of the eighties.
A lot of it WAS this great! Acid house and cheap eurodance - techno that came after it - that is totally horribly sounding today as it was back then.
Don't know what kind of 80s music you listened to but I've listened to an untold number from nearly every genre and I would say easily 90% was great and has aged beautifully as kids today continue to prove with their obsession over it.
The line, "I don't love you anymore, I don't think I ever did... and if you ever had any kind of love for me, you kept it all so well hid" cuts me to the core. It describes all of my interpersonal relationships, so well.
So true...and her delivery is perfect.
@MadCarrot
Stick to your carrots, Bugs Bunny.
Is it 'and don't think I ever did'?
Yeah mine too. So many users and fake people about
@E.F. R. I understand, far better than you might think E.F. R. I'm old(ish) too. It wasn't easy being a young gay boy in Texas in the Seventies. Years went by, and yes, I never dared to tell either... but looking back, I can see there were others close to me in the same boat. We passed like ships in the night, afraid to announce our presence to each other. Furthermore, for me love and lust are separate and distinct--though sometimes they overlap. You have plenty of time to find someone who loves you whom you love as well. May I suggest you start with a dog? They'll give you more love than any human ever will. Speaking of humans, the love of my life died in 2012, and even though we were together for 25 years, it was purely platonic. There is nothing pathetic about you or your life. You have many happy years ahead of you, now get out there and make them.
Annie Lennox and her such a beautiful, expressive and perfect face!!!
Miss Lennox has such a distinctive voice. There is absolutely no mistaking it.
I can spot anywhere when I hear it.
Their finest moment of all of their music. Such an achingly sad song of love and loss with such plaintive vocals from Annie and beautiful playing from Dave. I cannot imagine how many times I've heard this over the years but it always sends a shiver up the spine and a tear in the eye.
I've always thought this one to be their absolute very best, too. I'm glad I'm not alone in that assessment. It's such a masterfully done song, full of nuance and detail, and it really grabs so much. There's just so much raw sadness underneath that cool video & the seemingly icy and polished veneer. This one is such a powerful antithesis to the hopeful beauty & warmth of the "Miracle of Love".
I agree. This is their best song. It's a stunner
Stewart plays a great solo and he got me interested in the guitar when I saw them as a 6 year old with my old man.
And yet if you include the video it becomes a humorous take on a shallow relationship. There never was any love, just the electric exchange between two high voltage personalities.
A Goddess of poetry.
Top five voice in female music!
Another brilliant song by these two. I liked them back then, but now I love them, and their videos. How great was Annie's acting in all of those vids!
Annie Lennox: how much glamour and sex appeal...! I love this music, and this group
One of the best intros in pop music history...sublime.
The most sophisticated "POP" song ever made and this is the BEST song they EVER recorded! Composition / diction / intent / vocals / rhythm / execution / class / video & visual. It is definitely the # 1 song of all time dealing with "indifference and contempt" with the edge of complete and utter "disgust and disdain" wrapped up in the BEST vocals Annie has EVER recorded. I want to know which designer made that dress for her - absolute PERFECTION!
YES !!!!!
I agree! This is their masterpiece!
Yes totally!! i just looooove it and the album.
One of my favoriteee songs ever!!
I love both the song and the video too. So simple yet deep. And that striking moment at 3:19... wow!
Eurythmics are, without a doubt, one of my all-time favourite pop sensations from the 1980s. To me, this "Don't Ask Me Why" music-video proves their status of total superiority. Lennox and Stewart were clearly an amazing song-writing duo.
Masterpiece that's it
In 1989 I was 33yrs. old! The music was awesome back then! I always loved this song and still do! I lived through the best of the best! I have a sister 10yrs. older so I vaguely remember 50,s music in the house, a sister 5yrs. older so 60,s and I was 14 in 1970 when the real good stuff started hitting the charts! Look at the rubbish/garbage they call music these days? Tell me, WTF wants to listen to rants about killing innocent people with a Mossberg shotgun? Nobody I know! Thank Christ for You Tube videos, that,s all I can say! Jeff Dusti Age 67
God bless the Uk forever for so much amazing music made there
Yes truly a talented people when it comes to the arts.
The most RELEVANT song that is a cross between pop / jazz / R&B / Adult Contemporary in the past 35 years.
much talent!
those days had many talented and dedicated artists. No shortcuts!
Beautiful in every way
Probably one of the best music videos ever created...
Its very deft. Lots of emotional transitions. A whirlwind, but not incoherent at all.
Yet so simple in its editing. Just jump cuts. No special effects. Just her and her wonderfully expressive face.
you didnt have to hold back...the greatest...potrrays a lot........
Yes
It took me years to realise that
I have got to say that I LOVE her facial expressions in this video. It's wonderful and WILD..THIS is why the 80s and 90s are now CLASSIC in music history.. What artistry and great song writing!!
I miss so much real music like this.
will never see a better pairing of talent like annie and dave again priceless music
This song has haunted me for 30 years while I tried to remember which song it was with that melody and chilling lyrics. Bingo. Still gripping after all this time.
This is by far their BEST SONG ever recorded - it is sophisticated POP that speaks volumes both in lyrical content as well as instrumental arrangement. A true testament to what a POP song should be. Mariah Carey should take lessons from this - her career is done as of this writing / 2013.
It's FANTASTIC. I also think that "Love is a Stranger" is phenomenal!
REAL MUSIC!
Все в ней прекрасно , и голос , и слух , и артистизм.Одна из самых прекрасных певиц в мире.
Полностью разделяю Ваше мнение!

Эта музыка навсегда в наших сердцах.
One of the best female artist
Beautiful music, beautiful voice, beautiful singer
This song really encapsulates betrayal.
I think this is one of their best songs ❤🎶
It reminds me when I heard this song again and again during my strongest heartache...I used to drive nowhere and I stopped by side of the road...I was full of tears in my eyes especially at the end of the song when Annie repeat again and again WHY .she saved my life !
I hear you, my friend. I hear you.

Im so glad I grew up in the 80's with this kind of music., makes you appreciate the class and brilliance of groups like Eurthymics. pure class..
One of the best break up songs of all time, period.

My favorite Eurythmics song......... greetings of Peru.....
Timeless. Pure class and talent. Love it.
In total agreement. Incredible woman.
I know you will never see this Ms. Lennox but you have given me a great deal of enjoyment over the years through the music you make. Thank you.
Gorgeous song with REAL instrumentation. Amazing talent.
My fave of all of them. It beatufully sparks true tough relation between two people. Rarely she sings about idyllic love, but those like her own WHY is astonishing masterpiece.
Favourite Eurythmics song by miles. Simply brilliant.
Still gives me chills
This is a masterpiece
I think this is her best song. Love it!!! Being drop-dead gorgeous doesn't hurt!!!
"I don't love you anymore, I don't think I ever did". Those lyrics and her delivery just cut right to the bone. Such a great song, and no one can convey coldness like Annie Lennox.
SHE IS WORK OF ART. NEVER DUPLICATED!
@@alexiscarrington-colby733 So true!
When lyrics were poetry telling a story and when artists played instruments. Remember that.
I remember it well
Hayden Wittig me too!
Get me a time machine, you can't even call the shit infiltrating the airwaves "music" nowadays. Call it what it is, dickdiarrhea and their gyrating cumtoilets.
Good to hear others who like music , real music and songs that have a story.
Dance music is fine, but beat for beats sake, to jump and dance, well, sometimes I need some emotion and some story and some reason for the words.
It means that much , not just beat and sound but something concrete in the song, feeling in the music.
OK to dance and have fun but when your whole radio days, are taken up with sexy dance routines and nothingness or even understanding of whats being said, that is not what music should be, the be all , and end all, of all of what young people listen to. Or are forced to listen to on radio .
I understand there is some very skilled talented musicians and singers around these days, 2017, but few are seen or recognised because the marketers have stolen the limelight and make it fashionable to listen to shit, when its a brain washing with nothing else to hear. Where do the younger people hear real music with musicians and real singers and " can do it live" .
Annie Lennox is an amazing professional as is Dave Stewart, they have talent and a back stage skill , in that they are musical technicians.
They are tradesmen of the highest order of their profession.
Lots of modern stuff is contrived and fake. But if you can dance in time and a female who can flap your thigh muscles around or be built like a pro boxer and keep rhythm like some of the men , then someone else can create the music for dance and sex output , and sell a product of some kind to get the kids in, then they miss out on the real good stuff!
Some are smart enough to search new good stuff, or go back to we older folks stuff and LEARN what entertainment is.
@@scubacat6156 That's a great description.
There will never be another Annie. What a beautiful soul.
And Dave Stewart as well....thank you both for the music.

I've been reading Dave Stewart's biography Sweet Dreams are made of this....It brought me here today researching songs I missed along the way. Annie is amazing! Thank God for the Eurythmics.
I've always had a soft spot from this one. Lyrics that cut to the bone, immediately memorable melody, somptuous arrangements, outstanding vocals... "We Too Are One" isn't their most consistent album, but it features to of the band's best songs - this, and "Angel".

Absolutely fantastic Annie 🙌🙌🙌
Obra prima. Masterpiece.
Eurythmics is a 💎.
This song couldn't have come out at a better time in my life back then. It said what needed to be said.....
Eurythmics are one of the best. Great lyrics. Their music combined so many elements and always worked. Their videos were and are still quality. Annie's voice...Not even enough words to describe how incredible. Eurythmics have so many wonderful songs, but this one just keeps getting better every time I hear it. They have a song for nearly every emotion and situation about love. That's why I love them so much.
i think the scariest feeling in the whole world is to admit that you don't love someone you were madly in love with...you know, that person in your life that you would have done anything....ANYTHING...to keep happy, to keep close, to breathe the same air as, and then you wake up out of a dream to realize it was all a dream...
