Lyrics
Love is a stranger
In an open car
To tempt you in
And drive you far away
And I want you
And I want you
And I want you so
It's an obsession
Love is a danger
Of a different kind
To take you away
And leave you far behind
And love love love
Is a dangerous drug
You have to receive it
And you still can't
Get enough of the stuff
It's savage and it's cruel
And it shines like destruction
Comes in like the flood
And it seems like religion
It's noble and it's brutal
It distorts and deranges
And it wrenches you up
And you're left like a zombie
And I want you
And I want you
And I want you so
It's an obsession
It's guilt edged
Glamorous and sleek by design
You know it's jealous by nature
False and unkind
It's hard and restrained
And it's totally cool
It touches and it teases
As you stumble in the debris
And I want you
And I want you
And I want you so
It's an obsession - Hudba
Who's still listening to this song in 2024? Answer, me!
Me
Eurythmics - good stuff!
All of us
We all do!
Appreciate this more in the present than I did back in the day.
There is nothing on earth more beautiful, seductive, and more singularly terrifying than Annie Lennox's eyes in this video. That woman owned the era on a level nobody even understood at the time.
she is a fierce amazon. how I love her being. in concert it was ethereal.
Wow, well said.
🙌
If Blondie's Debbie Harry was the first New Wave Aphrodite then Annie Lennox was the second. She showed the way with "Sweet Dreams," though that had some Marlene Dietrich moves. " Love is a Stranger" Annie just let's all her sexy, insane introspection out and shows the world her dazzling eyes and devastating beauty. I don't think this song could have been written without their personal experience of romantic love. God bless Annie and Dave.

It doesn't matter how many decades have passed. Listening to Eurythmics is just as fresh and just as powerful as it was in the 1980s! Bravo Annie and Dave. Bravo!
It's mesmerizing. Can't get enough
This 💯 so damn good!! Don't make music like this today...Genius - part of the Golden Age of Music which then died in the early 90's
Didn't know they had I phones in 1980 at around 2.16 into the video the future has been shown?😳
@@allen_pq
@@robertfraser8395 I know you're jesting but just out of interest, this track was released in 1982 (amazingly it didn't do well and was rereleased in '83) and the U.K.'s first mobile network launched in '85. So well ahead of its time. Presumably that was a TV remote.
2024 & still one of the best songs of all time.
No doubt! This video used to scare the crap out of me as a kid, but not as an adult 😍
Listening February 22nd
Listening on February 22nd 😊😊
Why do want to be so cliché to make this comment?
correct, i stated this years ago ;-)
A very atmospheric song with an unusual rhythm. It's also impressive in 2024.
Just a fucking masterpiece. Enough said.
Agreed..Annie is fascinating..
Here, here! Wow, this song was towards the end of their relationship 😥
fuckingright therepal.
Amen!!!!!
so true !
Damn, man. This song is so far ahead of it's time that it still hasn't met itself wherever it exists in the future.
Best comment on CZcams!
Ahead of its time? There was so much incredible Electronica back then its sickening. Today's synth stuff doesn't hold a candle.
Fuck. That is a great line. I am still searching for its end...
It was perfect t for it's time. Not sure what that even means?
hahahaaaa
Sometimes - just sometimes - I forget how good Stewart and Lennox were.
Bangin'.
What makes this one of the best songs ever? I'm glad you asked! 1. The haunting keyboard arrangement is hypnotizing. 2. The pulsing beat is subtle, but perfect. It adds, but doesn't distract. 3. Annie's icy cool, emotional vocals help create a mystique and enchantment. 4. The production has held up; they didn't fall into many of the 80s production traps that now sound dated. 5. And, perhaps most importantly, Annie's biting, acerbic dissection of love. She refused to play the role expected of women in music where they long for love or are lost without it or are complete with it. Nope! Not Annie! If you're still reading, you're truly a fan! 😄
ola! perfect answer! tons of kudos 4 you! 😊
And do not forget a goddess
Smiling ag how great your reasoning is 🙂
And at 2:23 Dave Stewart appears to have an Apple Watch and an iPhone a few decades before anyone else. But I agree such a great song. I love the way she does insanity - the "obsession" just gets more and more extreme as the song goes on.
Well said!
Congrats to Annie and Dave on being part of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class of 2022! So very well deserved.
Thank you for emphasising this 👌🏼
Definitely earned their place with many hits like this 😎
I love this masterpiece from Eurythmics but there are many others. Creative geniuses.
So happy that they are in. The Rock Hall needs Eurythmics, not the other way around!
Totally worthy of this honor.
Released 40 years ago today, November 8, 1982. Still sounds as fresh and cutting edge as it did back then. Sure beats the crap that passes for "music" today.
Ok.
That was totally uncalled for.
😂😂
comments were better back then too
The song was re-released in 1983.
A great and scary video!
Ok boomer
Genius pop song writers. They knew exactly what they were doing even with the arrangement and presentation. True entertainers.
One thing that’s overlooked from these 80’s videos is how good Annie’s acting was. She was really good.

I've always wondered why she didn't pursue more acting work, she'd SLAY any role given to her.
Annie nailed every look, every hairstyle they could dream up. She has an incredible beauty.

Marilyn, blond was already rare but requested back in these days, what kind of steel is the car made of?
Those hypnotic eyes, voice and the music, which could be said, ahead of its time.
2024... And I still love it...
This song will be listened to and appreciated 100 years from now.
Sure hope so...
Forever
i agree. timeless.
SChweden zu nobelpreis zeiten scheint doch nicht so schlecht zu sein
It’s an absolute masterpiece
Annie Lennox; one of the coolest woman to have ever lived. Strong. Unique. And unashamed to express. A great role model today as well. A legend.
So true.

What a duo!!! The amazing tune aside, she's absolutely stunning, no matter what. 😍
She’s breathtakingly beautiful
Love from Bordeaux France. Annie est une femme qui fait du bien.
Ah bien. Hello from NZ😊
Who's listening in 2021? When love really is a stranger!
Best love to have

I am ...I like Eurythmics!
i do!
Seems there is no more love but only lust. Because it is based on sense gratification, therefore there is love between a boy and girl, and as soon as there is a little discrepancy, there is divorce. They are separated. Because the whole principle was on the basis of lust. So there is no love.
My Fave Eurythmics Song!
Die schönsten Augen, die wundervolle Stimme, die wundervolle Annie
Pure music forever
The many faces of Annie Lennox!❤❤❤
Still enchanting after all these years
Love her voice
Simply Perfection!
This is my favorite Eurythmics song. It is both haunting and beautiful. Annie Lennox has always been an amazing singer with a voice that exudes fantastic beauty and danger at the same time. Also, she has the most amazing silver eyes. I never seen anyone else with this color.
In person they are bright blue but the camera always makes them look different.
A cracking song. Love it. All the comments that people have made here are true and bang on. i agree with them all. But for me Thorn in My Side really does it. May be just the time when it hit my life?
I like to give credit to Dave Stewart, as he created the surreal feel of the instrumentation that I loved as a child before I paid attention to the lyrics. Eurythmics is the peak of synthpop.
Annie's voice is incredible, and it syncs with the intensity of the electronica, but I also agree that Dave hit it out of the parks with his his skills on this one.
Yes, it's production quality that has never been equaled, and probably never will be. Even with today's technology and auto-tune etc... I think it would be very difficult to re-create the same atmosphere, and very unlikely the singing voice. Only Ultravox could get the same quality and lushness out of synths/rhythm boxes/FX etc...
♡Dave
@@BG-il2ym SO true. What I find amazing is that so many of Eurythmics' songs sound good with some bass or no bass. I sometimes listen to this song with the bass cranked all the way down or turned up to where I can baaarely feel the woofer vibrate. Another example, listen to Thorn in my side with the bass turned down then again turned up. I can't think of any other band where a significant number of their songs sound good with two different bass levels...
Yeah, as a kid Eurythmics songs felt like feelings put to music rather than just songs with words and notes
Pure brilliance says it all
Somes up love in the greatest lyrics
Hard to believe that on Christmas this year Annie Lennox will be 70.
Really? Im shocked she's doesn't look to be 70!
@@pankaburek59 Have a look at her photograph in her wikipedia article (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annie_Lennox).
To me the greatest aspect of all the Annie Lennox videos and songs is that no two are the same. Each one stands on its own as a masterpiece in my non-musical opinion. I don't claim to have a great ear for music but if anyone says I don't like the Eurythmics or more specifically Annie Lennox then you're just not listening to the full body of work. She re-creates herself with every song and every note. She is amazing in my opinion. Her and Stevie Nicks have probably saved my life more than once. Amazing women, amazing voices, amazing messages!
Masterpiece. Best song.
This is music!
Just brilliant what more can you say... 😊
Genius really. Holds up so damned well after all these years. This is their best track.
So true
It's their best track and their other tracks are unbelievable, you mean
It most certainly is!
So interesting.. I love the movie Victor Victoria. Not sure who influenced who with the wig and androgynous look?

She has such an amazing voice and sound. Her charisma is off the charts.
Has to be one of the most underrated electronic tracks ever. So cool and unique. No other recording sounds like this :)

What a beautiful voice, matched to a beautiful woman.
One of the most sensual songs ever recorded. Just gushes with hedonism ✨
2023 and it's still fresh

her look from 2:28 and onward is so damn amazing, still loooooove it. the slicked back hair and suit and those eyes!
Annie Lennox was always ahead of her time. A very powerful figure to us young girls at the time.
The American bible belt thought she was a man, goes to show how people can be brainwashed into what others want them to think.
Yes
Yep
And she sure looks so gosh darn cute in those wigs.
Powerful to us boys at the time also
Ahead of time this band👀✨
I woke up with this song in my head today. I love it ❤️
absolutely slayed
This song continues to mesmerize. One of the few from my youth that does.
A pop music masterpiece, is all I have to say. The 1980's were a golden age for pop art.
Yes the 80s music is still kicking it far better than the crud being made today
Oh come on. The 70's had TONS more good shit. In face, it gave birth to the "80's". Everything was already there: electronica, "new wave", progRock, disco, metal, etc. People are saying 80's 80's 80's because it's kewl to say. But take a long look -or listen I should say- to 70's music talent and you'll be blown away. I love the 80's stuff too, of course.
I didn't think that at the time, but now, boy the music was good in those days :)
Definitely, it was a real art back then.

One of the best 80's songs ever. Anni Lennox just perfect ❤
RemInds me of growing up and school in Scotland ..... haunting ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I like listening to this song all the time because sometimes I can remember it in my head by whistling every day at work 😊
This song is still phenomenal! 35 plus years. The video is so timeless. I Never get sick of it and Annie's eyes are gorgeous. True one of a kind artist!
It is timeless, such a clean sound & her stunning voice. Not many artists come close. Discovered Onuka (Ukrainian singer) produces very similar music. She is the Ukraine equivalent of Annie without a doubt. czcams.com/video/VIMo1UVEbMo/video.html

Yup still here. Every song from this generation, my generation, was made to sing really loud while driving.
So true about an obsessive love? affair. Probably wouldn't call it love, but LUST!
i have ear all those songs since m 10 years in 1983 and listen it today not like the stinkt bull shit musics of today ,made on the corner of a table with in 10 minutes without any harmony, any inteligence, any color, any texture, any chord progression ...just make me vomit...
2025 and it's still awesome.

I wish I could give this a 10000 thumbs up. Better than anything today
I can only give one thumbs up sadly. Yes bloody fantastic voice has Annie😀
Just want to get up and disco dance the night away but arthritis won't let me ha ha ha :0) it's savage and it's cruel getting old!!!
Awesome music a 80s bomb
This is such an intriguing video. It's a masterpiece. A work of art. It goes perfectly with the song. Such a haunting song that could only be mastered by Annie Lennox herself♥
I love that CZcams keeps giving me this to watch. It’s bloody clever and makes me chuckle every time
This song evokes such strong emotion!
Annie was and is such a beauty.
1982, at 14 years old, I listen with wonder to this production, 2023, at 55 years old I still listen with just as much wonder to this technological gem.
Same here Stepan (I was born on 1968, too)!
just as I am at 54 years old:).

Annie has always been a powerhouse of a woman. Even at the time, I will never forget the impression she left on me with that cropped red hair. Simply no-one else was brave enough for that look, especially combined with the suit. Dave is a legend, always produces these timeless songs, so clever so original.
