Thyroid imbalance is most common endocrine health problem.
12% of people will suffer from abnormal thyroid function sometime in their lifetime.
Women are 8 times more likely to have thyroid issues than men.
Most common symptom of thyroid imbalance in women is irregularities in periods.
28 days is ideal period length. it can vary from 21 to 35 days.
overweight and obese women have longer cycle with reduced flow.
smoking can disturb cycle length.
18- 29 years have longer cycle. after 30 years of age cycle length regularises and cycle variability reduces.
How to calculate cycle length is calculated from day 1 to day 1 of consecutive period.
Hormones responsible for normal period : FSH ( Follicle Stimulating hormone ) and LH ( luteinizing hormone ), Estrogen, Progesterone, Thyroid, Prolactin, Insulin and Androgen.
Normal period is indirect indication of good endocrine health, reproductive health
During Puberty, Pregnancy, post partum and post menopause phase thyroid imbalance can happen in women.
Hypothyroidism is more common than hyperthyroidism.
period irregularities is more common in severe hypothyroidism than mild hypothyroidism.
Many times thyroid imbalance does not cause period irregularities.
sudden period irregularities can indicate thyroid imbalance.
Hypothyroidism pathophysiology :
Reduced function of thyroid gland causes decreased amount of T3 and T4. this causes activation of Negative pathway and caused increased TRH from hypothalamus and TSH from pituitary.
Due to high TRH, prolactin level also increases. increase prolactin causes reduction of FSH ( Follicle Stimulating hormone )and LH ( luteinizing hormone ). FSH cause egg and ovum maturation. LH causes ovulation. Reduction of LH causes immature follicles, unable to conceive, anovulatory cycle. Endometrium lining causes infrequent bleeding and spotting and clots.
thyroid imbalance causes disturbance of insulin action and causes hyperinsulinemia and causes Insulin resistance . PCOS is caused by insulin resistance. 30 - 40 % women with thyroid imbalance have PCOS. vice versa PCOS women have thyroid imbalance. PCOS and thyroid imbalance also causes weight gain.
irregular period, Anovulatory cycle, Absent period ( amenorrhoea ), Heavy flow.
Decreased coagulation protein causes heavy flow and leading to anaemia. Hypothyroidism is detected by doing blood test. treatment consist of levothyroxine.
Hyperthyroidism causes increased t3 and t4. this caused reduced SHBG levels. this causes irregular and anovulatory periods and amenorrhoea and scanty flow ( due to increased coagulation protein ).
Hyperthyroidism is treated with Anti thyroid drugs and Radioactive iodine therapy.
other causes of period imbalance are extensive exercise, dieting and calorie restriction, anaemia, prolactin disturbances, PCOS, uterine fibroid.

Ma'am mai Pakistan se hun aap ne jitni b baat ki boht ache se smjhaya. Ma'am mjhe 1.5 years pehle hyper thyroid diagnose hua tha jb se thyroxin le rhi hun tb se ab tk level bhi theek hai. Periods b regular hain. Ovulation b hota hai 15mm k eggs hotay hain bina treatment k b. Lekin jb se ab tk pregnancy k liye try kr rhi hun 5 saal ki baby hai bt can't conceive. Haan jb treatment leti hun periods k 18 din bleeding hoti hai thori c kbhi kbhi boht din pehle hi spotting ho jati hai.. Otherwise normal periods atay hain bs aik clot zrur ata hai her bar painful hotay hain periods or boht ziayada bleeding nhn hoti bt urin k sath boht ziada hoti hai.

Periods two months k distance se ho rahe hai lekin pehle 3 se 4 days hotte the ab 8 se 9 days hotta hai .or leakage bhi itni hotti hai ki normal pad har two hours mein change karna padhta hai

I take regularly my thirod tab. Of100 mg. But due to my leg fectured I unfortunately miss it to take since one month ...today I remember it ... What can I do ? Now
