  • Following in the footsteps of it's bigger F-150 brother, the Ford Maverick compact pickup now also gets the Tremor treatment! With a factory lift kit, standard all-terrain tires, and a trick AWD system with a clutch based rear-locking differential the 2023 Ford Maverick Tremor wants to be the trail hero of the budget conscious pickup shopper!
Clocking in at only $32,965.00 USD (this is a US-Spec model Maverick), this little pickup not only punches way above its weight in terms of off-road prowess, but thanks to the peppy little turbocharged 2.0 liter engine and clever interior and exterior design the Ford Maverick Tremor also makes for a great daily driver! But how capable can a Ford Escape-based pickup really be? Find out in today's off-road review!

I got a HPR XLT Tremor myself. We love it. Coming from old CJ7s and Broncos, the front camera would be cool but is not really necessary for wheelin. Also I have a very aggressive driveway similar to the hardest parts of your trail. Since I do it every day I played with the Trail Control vs without it. It can control a downhill skid far better than I can with all my years of offroading experience. It is also effective at climbing long slower offroad hill climbs. After we come down our driveway, to park I put it in our carport in reverse which is uphill on the other side of a cross cut drainage ditch. If you leave it in trail control when you switch to reverse it will start backing up at 1 mph. It controls the throttle alot more confidently than you would while backing through a ditch and up a slope to park. It is a really good feature, I also tested it quite a bit in Moab UT on trails while i was there. Being a AWD vs a locked 4x4, the Trail control essentially puts the intelligent AWD systems "thinking cap" on and maximizes its potential. The only factor it doesnt use is momentum. Like if a obstacle has loose terrain at its top and you have to lay into the throttle more and more as you go up. Thats when you have to give it the skinny pedal however you have to be ready to brake when you get to the top because your new wheel speed is its new speed setting. It can give you a stampede feeling if you arent paying attention.
Good review guys, glad you took it up and put it to work. I will post a link on MTC for you.

I really appreciated your comment, thanks for all the great insight! In the scenarios you described I can totally see how Trail Control can come in super handily... and I honestly didn't know that it works in reverse. That certainly adds a lot of utility and capability that would be difficult to achieve manually! And regarding the front camera: You're right, nothing beats a good amount of skill! Us off-road "newbies" are somewhat spoiled by all the fancy tech that comes with trucks these days, ha!
Also a huge thank you for sharing the link. It's been bringing a lot of viewers to this video in the recent hours! We've got more off-road reviews coming the next few weeks that I'm hoping you will enjoy as well. Thanks again!

@GCCarsCA I subbed and will also refer you guys!
I have a turbo AWD I show in my content from Park City and that version is amazing - and fast. Even with the huge snow year last winter, I never had to put chains on the stock Conti tires. Now I have Blizzaks that grab the road even better.
I also own the hybrid but if I had to choose just one, it would be the AWD or Tremor. Hwy mpg not much different for all that extra capability in snow and off road.
I hope to earn your sub and referrals too Eric & Jessie. Thanks, Maniac.

My 2024 XLT Maverick Tremor has already survived 2 monsoons in Jacksonville (and aggressively flooded roads). I've already done some residential offloading to save time on the ole commute
    things you referenced:
Cost: I paid MSRP thanks to a good local dealer. Waited ONE WEEK
I got a trifold tonneau cover for $239 on amazon
Spray in bedliner was $395 (locally done)

Paying MSRP and only waiting one week is amazing! Glad you're liking your Maverick... it's an awesome pickup!

@@GCCarsCA technically I got $1,000 under MSRP because of the veteran appreciation thing for does.
The only thing Ive had to do is get spray in bed liner which cost the same as much as factory. So I'm smitten

Camera's are useful but overrated a bit. They get dust/mud all over them and you end up not seeing much

Side and rear cameras, yep. But we never had issues with our front cameras getting too dusty or muddy.

Well, if it's only a single person off-roading then cameras would be nice :)

You've never off roaded in a VW Bug and it shows. I can't believe you guys are crying so much over a camera 😒

A VW Bug has vastly superior front end visibility though 😅
