Those are good stuff! I’ve used them for years!
Get a Titan fuel tank in there.
license plate lights Robby?
Wow.
The taillights look weird mounted upside down. 😂❤
It has been fun watching all this come together.
website is good
👍
Nice

Looking good Boys.
Bluesteel, or "bluestil" as you pronounce it, is looking good.
Make sure they fix your cargo light. Might just need that on a night recovery.
You ought to paint it yellow to match all your other vehicles!
@@JRSF9011 but then it would need a new name.
Looks like it’s sagging a little… might need to upgrade to a dually.
Hillbilly: FYI, I was the design engineer that came up with Idea to add the camera to Ford Logo. I was working on Ford liftgate applique on the Ford Flex, adding the backup camera was a last minute change. Ford had already stated the stamping dies for the liftgate and did not want any program timing to change or reworking stamping tools. In the end, the whole team was happy with my idea.
You should cut that headache rack down to where it matches the cab. That way the headache rack wouldnt be so tall and would match the cab.
So much effort for a fuel filler that Matt doesn’t use… 😂😂😂
Would've been much easier to just delete it altogether. 🤣
Need to add some rotopax mounts, and a hi-lift too.
@@GrokrootSo Matt won't use them either? 😂
@@jamesplymire5342 lol, yeah and I missed one, need to add a spare tire to the list
Hilarious!!! lol well done 👏
The headache rack needs some cut off the bottom. The taper needs to line up with the body line of the cab. @MattsOffRoadRecovery
While you’re doing metal fab, build a small lockbox for KEYS! Make it removable and paint the mount like blaze orange or something obnoxious, and the box MORR yellow. That way they have a visual reminder of the keys too
XLNt ☝💡 idea !
Especially the 2 different colors. The Yellow removable box will *_contrast_* vs. Sand Hollows orange sand ( if someone puts it down ) , & the Blaze Orange mount is an EASY indicator that you're forgetting the Yellow box ( a visible color difference even a hundred feet away ) . Any worker should be wanting to see a MORR-Yellow box on the headache rack , not a Blaze Orange mount.
You mean so someone doesn't forget the keys back at the shop? Who would do a thing like that? Maybe they should build a bird house for punishment! LOL! 🤣🤣
ok
You also need to lower the headache rack also.
Dear Hilly Billy I am so very proud of you for enduring the teeth treatment/ restoration.
We love your fabrication skills even more. Within a few weeks you can do that with a pearly white smile while doing it. Being awesome you will be even awesomer.
God bless Robby for caring for Hillbilly just like a son-friend. Definitely a selfless act.
Hillbilly: "I don't explain things too well"
Hillbilly: Then goes on to the best explanation of a plan for the trailer hitch I think I have ever heard.
Great job, Hillbilly!! You Rock, Bro!!!
Absolutely! Hillbilly has some nice skills. Sure, he's a bigger man than he thinks
The headache needs to lowered to match the curvature of the cab. other than that it looks good.
You guys have to be the most underrated CZcams channel but I'll be here when you hit 1 million like you deserve
Thank you!
Hillbilly is a gem!
I love watching a plan come together.
Most enjoyable!!
Agreed he is the perfect employee for Layton Auto Body and Towing. Wide range of skills capable of doing pretty much anything that Robby and his customers throws at him. 😮😮
LOL line from the A-Team
@@joeking2961 LOLOLOL. Yessir
@@tonydowd8566"I pity the fool who don't watch this channel" It will look awesome that extreme powder coating can match the color for the bed. That will definitely look trick.
As a production sound mixer I really appreciate the effort you put into the sound on your channel. The wireless mics do a great job. Paul and Matt should learn from you.
Absolutely, would love to know what brand those mics and lavaliers are.
Mixed well. Enjoying the evolution of this channel. Best wishes to all from Wisconsin.
The sound on fabrats is about the only let down on theirs. Given they always wear hats clipping a little Rhode mic to the brim of the cap is something I've seen that works really well.
I'm sure their editors would appreciate it lol.
Sound here is so good I don't notice it any more, that's the best compliment I can give (no sarcasm there). No more super loud grinders and quiet voices. Really well done. Very pleasant to watch.
Congratulations 🎉 Hillbilly on the new choppers. And love the new Harley you and Robbie make a great team.
The storage box below the fuel filler, needs drain holes in the bottom. And rain that hits the door will pool in the bottom and eventually rot out, I'd put a drain hole near each corner, and or give the bottom a whack in the center to make it concave upwards just enough that water will run toward the corners. Just an idea!
Congratulations to Hillbilly on getting thru all the dental work!! Being confident in your smile will really make it easier to SMILE😊
Make sure you disconnect the gas guage, Matt doesn't use it anyway 😂
I know this has been said numerous times before but Hillbilly has really gotten good at his video narration. Before he was more of just a background character that occasionally chimed in but now he sounds like a natural now and really adds a lot of value to the videos. 👏
My only hindsight that I had on my flatbed was I didn't put any light taps on the headache rack for work lights. I thought of it after it was completely done. Not sure if that one has any or not. Great video as always.
If it was mine I would have dropped the headache rack down close to roof level.
Boy, Robby ragging on Matt running out of gas was brutal.... 😁
Congrats on the new choppers, Hillbilly! (Both the mouth and the Harley, lol...)
Still need to lower the headache rack to make it even with the cab.
The headache rack is giving me headaches… it’s so tall! 😂😂😂
That sure is a great looking bed, the only thing I'd change if it were mine would be to cut the headache rack down six or eight inches. It appears to be almost a foot taller than the roofline.
Great idea, but since they've already dropped it off for powder coating I think it won't happen.
maybe they plan to mount a lightbar on it and wanted it high
You should put a metal shroud around the backup camera to protect it from getting broken off
Hi guys, just love the work you do - and the humour! Seeing the new bed sitting on the truck, can't help wondering if the headache rack could do with being shortened a bit, to to better match the rear window and truck roof height. Just an errant thought....
Lights perhaps?
@@larrybe2900 That's a darn good point! Would make an excellent light rack as it stands...
"when he so chooses to put fuel in" I'm living for these little digs, and honestly I don't think you said it enough.
That charger is looking good . Can't wait to see you guys start working on it !
Looking good glad to hear you are adding bags to it. Was just thinking it would be cool if he had lights to light up the deck at night and a beacon on it as it is part of his towing fleet nice work on the rear hitch
Robby, you have a gift of making a commercial without feeling like a commercial 😃
Have to say, you guys really get a lot done, and with such professional results. Love it!
happy for you hillbilly thank you for your part in this channel we love you brother thank you to the robby laton team
Expertly chop down that headache rack or expertly make a custom one, it look way better if it followed the contour of the cab and wasn’t so high.
This is the best way to start a day! Y’all are so positive and and have amazing skills! Hey Hillbilly, brother you hang in there and those new choppers are gonna look awesome! Y’all stay safe and I’m looking forward to seeing your next video!!! Love you folks!!!!
I really enjoy your channel Robby. That positive attitude of yours is awesome and it looks to be contagious among all in your videos.
Keep Smiling and thank you.
Fantastic progress ! Thanks for sharing !
Can’t wait to see y’all do the body work and paint Blue Steel.
Awesome video. Between you and Hillbilly things are moving, and of course, the rest of the team❤
Even though Hillbilly struggles with words, he is clearly competent and so anyone with a brain is going to pay attention and listen to him, cause he's worth listening to. I'm always in awe of that guy.
It has been fun watching all this come together. Yall are amazing
Need to look at S+B fuel tanks. Get the air bag kit with the load level kit. Blue steel will look great with a flat bed and front bumper powder coated.
Such incredible attention to details... masters at work
THANK YOU for the nice "steady" quality camera work! I was able to watch and enjoy the entire video today, without any vertigo issues. Thank You again! I really enjoy your channel.
I do greatly enjoy your attention to the small details.
That new flatbed is going to look awesome once it's powder coated! Really like the care to detail that the L.A.B. team puts into their work!
I liked the temporary tail lights for the short trip to the powder coating shop. I guess that's why it had to be towed back? No place to put any tail lights, haha.
Robby it looking right on and really good. Matt's going to love it. Hopefully he puts diesl in it on time now. Can't wait to see more updates an projects and many more videos soon. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friends. Fab On. Weld On. Keep Making. God bless.
It is coming together nicely. Color match should be fantastic.
Blue Steel is going to be looking great. Luckily for Matt, he knows no the best body man in the business.
After watching lots of off-road shop builds for rock crawling, I love seeing your professional fabrication, body work and paint. So cool to see the details right down to the tiniest little thing.
Well done!
Put a light bar in the front bumper and some pod lights on the headache rack! Also a door covering the fuel fillers! Love the work you guys do!
Robby you an Hillbilly are such a Hoot ! Y'all do such amazing work on anything you touch.
Thanks for sharing your adventures and talents with everyone to enjoy ! ✌️❤️🙏
You guys make really hard work look like fun... Thanks for the video's.
Details Details, that is what makes for an excellent job and look. Really appreciate the efforts Robby does on all his projects. Doesn't skip important details.
Looking awesome guys. Great work.
Love the work you guys do
Maybe it's just me but I think the headache rack needs to fit the body mines better. It's too tall and too wide at places.
I love how you guys actually listen to some comments, I was one of the many comments about gettin some airbags on that truck and I’m glad it’s gonna get some. You guys do great work and great videos
i love how you guys made brackets with parts off old receiver , very clever.
I like the powder coat guys opinion about the colour of the bed.
Matching the navy blue of the truck is definitely a better option than black 👏🏼👏🏼
Agree that navy blue would look better, but black may be more practical to touch up with a rattle can when it gets dinged up.
Good call
I would recommend making a door for the fuel fill area to keep out water and road grunge. Simple panel with spring loaded hinges that keep it closed and allow flip up to open and fuel. :)
Nice flatbed box! Great workmanship Robby.
Robby you guys work so well together, all the things you got going on, its hard waiting to see the finished product! I get it though, not every thing gets done as quickly as you would like.
With everything you got going on with the 57, the corvette, the Laymo, the Coronet, Hillbillies Harley, the Star, Big Blue etc. Its never ending! So we have a lot to look forward to and I appreciate all the content you'll have for us! Til next time, take care, and we'll see you on the next...
I was really hoping that he was also going to do some suspension upgrades to the truck in the lines if leaf springs. Air bags are good but they put stress on spots of the frame that weren't designed for that style and amount of stress. Casey LaDelle did a video talking about it.
Thousands of people have out air bags on their rear Super Duty suspension with no issue. The purpose is to prevent excessive squat, not to increase capacity. Within that guideline there will be no problem with airbags
Depends on the system they install. If it's a simple bump-stop replacement system that only helps level the load, it could add some stress to that area, but usually, those systems come with brackets that distribute the load over a larger area of the frame. There are also full 5 link replacement systems like Kelderman builds or their simpler shuttle system where a bracket just replaces the rear spring hangers and the airbags both soften the ride and level the truck when at capacity.

A nice detail on the new flat bed is that the taillights mount vertically. It's so cliche when they're mounted on an angle. Subtle reminder that the dude who designed and built it is a master of his craft.
Except the fuel filler is improperly oriented, the hitch mount needs reinforcing, has a missing stake pocket , and headache rack design doesn’t come close to matching truck cab body lines.
@@danjones1365 I don't think it's fair to gig the guy on the fillers b/c he did not have the truck and the bed is a generic. Same goes for the headache rack - see my comment above. Missing stake pocket? Matter of opinion as the rub rail is interrupted there by the fillers. Hitch mount? Again, fr a general purpose application it was fine and, again, did not have access to the truck and possibly was unaware of Steel's use case.
Have to agree to disagree, first video they said it was custom made. I’d bet Robbie never mentioned them by name because he’s not happy with the end product, hence why he’s fixing everything. I’ve ordered and driven dozens of medium and SuperDuty trucks with standardized service/utility bodies or flatbeds. Altec/Southco/Harbor/Scelzi, never seen one with externally exposed Phillips head hinge hardware on toolbox doors!? The headache rack height is giving me a migraine.
@@danjones1365 Agree regarding the height of the headache rack. Chop it down or lift the cab. On your other point, there is 'custom' and then their is 'custom'. I can engage a tailor to make me a custom suit in an off-the-rack size, or fitted to me personally. In this situation it seems that this custom bed was built by a firm that does bespoke work but not necessarily with knowledge of this particular truck or access to a representative sample. Or maybe 'standard' features/options were selected t save cost (and this way Robbie gets something to content about). We don't really know.
Nice to Hear about All the Upgrades to Blue Steel..👍😎
I feel.really good to see blue steel finally get the love and upgrades it needs
Only thing i think now is it needs duallys to go with the bed and to support the trailer weight better
Once his teeth are all done were going to have to call him Hill Billy Deluxe.
Hillbilly don't stop trying to explain the stuff you're working on for the video. You're do great keep it up.
Lots of projects!! That's a fact. I don't know how you keep them all straight but you do an awesome job!! Hillbilly is getting a lot more comfortable in front of the camera. Can't wait to see his "new grill"! 😁
I've been using the solder sticks for a couple of years now and they work great.
Robby you contradicted yourself, you said last time that was a custom bed and today you said the bed was built to go on any truck. 🤔 I agree with others, the headache rack is like 8 inches too tall. Titan makes nice extended range fuel tanks.
I wish you could have shortened the meshed cab protection to the level of the cab for aesthetic sake....looks too tall to my eye. Great job though 🦾👌
I have cleaned hitch pin locks with aerosol frozen lock spray. Between the pinpoint high pressure and the alcohol it blows all the gunk out and so far, each time I have tried this it works.
Lots of Great Work!!!
"When Matt DECIDES to put diesel in it" 😂😂😂😂
This was a great video and it covered a lot of territory and I’m so glad that I caught it and didn’t miss it.
Good job taking care of yourself Hillbilly. We can already see that you feel much better. Almost done, you got this.
I know it's probably too late, but if you can it would be good to make a protection arch to weld over the top of the Ford reverse camera mount. Otherwise I would guess someone is going to be loading or just climbing on the back of the truck and it's gonna get smashed. Great work though! Looking good!
If it’s too late for Robby to weld one Matt could always build a arch that could bolt on.
*THE HEADACHE RACK IS WAY TOO TALL* 😳
Awesome job guys. Especially taking the time to add the extra braces on the hitch. A lot of work but worth it
Great work. That’s an awesome looking bed. 💪💪💪
Way to go Hillbilly we’re all behind you
I have to say hillbilly has came a long way in front of the camera and you can start to see him getting more confident the full team make great content and work well together keep it up ppl
Awesome video guys!
Nice work guys!
Kudos to Hillbilly for wearing his safety gear. Safety glasses could save your eyesight. Someone should inform Bobby.
Go Hillbilly go! Happy for you. On another note, I worry that the camera will be destroyed the first time out. Needs creative protection I think.
Great job you guys. Wish you were closer, we have a 2010 Ford Edge we would like to have painted. But we can’t afford it anyway. Keep up the good work and thank you for sharing your days with us.
After being put on disability from sheriffs dept I lost my dental ins and have had trouble getting my work done so for u to do that for ur best friend I tip my hat to you sir cause we all know how expensive that work is. Ur a grt man mr robby. Hillbilly ur looking good and we are all behind ya.
Why not just throw the bed on the back of the tow truck to drop it off if you were bringing it anyway?
That headache rack is way to high .
Thanks for making my day three times a week!
Love this build!
Can't you lower the front vertical section of the bed so that is is the same height of the truck's roof? Looks funny like that.
GO Hilbilly. Congrats on your new grill. Keep up all your good work.
Well done both of you!
Looking good guys!!!!
Need to lower the top of the headache rack. Looks like the truck is wearing a top hat. It is a really nice flatbed.
