That “spreader bar” was used to replace the cut out piece of radiator support, it was to used adjust the front opening. It kept the front of the fenders sagging inward. That’s the way us old timers “I’m 75” removed and installed engines back in the day. This week a 6 cylinder, next a 327, then a 396 and then a 427. After blowing the V8s up back to the 6 cylinder. We didn’t have all the modern technology.

I know these cars were simple body on frame constructions and most were built on the same platform for decades, but it still amazes me that you can get parts for these vehicles. We have a 1963 VW Beetle, 6 Volts! It has been impossible to find a starter for 30 years. I was able to fetch one from a Type 3 (the VW "Station Wagon") but now most guys swap the electrics for a 12V system. EDIT: I love the Summit guy!

It's always funny when watching someone try to put petrol into a '57 Chevy for the first time.

That is frightening to see all those rust holes in those rails with you planning a 2000 miles journey. When you get it back to RL base, are you going to lift the body off the frame and fix that frame at some point? Right now it has more holes than a tea bag.

I feel your frustration, I had a crew chief, called Hillbilly, that also had that problem regarding the turds from Dearborn... My ancient successes came in GM, Toyota, or Jeep (RUBICON!!).. More recently on a Triumph competing in the Summit ET Bracket series at LVMS against a turd from Milwaukee, and 8- 10 second trailered monsters 13.0 @ 100 was good for 25% of the qualifying poles!

I bet Hillbilly would be rockin' at a SEMA 24-hour build challenge.

Hilbilly is right. 5.0 is on point. Best sounding naturally aspirated engine out there.

Really digging the build. Best way to eliminate the future issues is to replace the old ones. Good call on the fuel lines brake lines and all the suspension parts. That stuff was really going to disappoint you somewhere not far from Cleveland. Keep up the great content.
