      Volvo FM's. The second gen ones are going strong at 35,000 hours, set of bushes all around and an engine and gearbox rebuild at 25,000 hours in a hook lift. An 80s acco had less power and the chassis failed by 20,000hours after the engine and gearbox rebuild at 12,000hrs

      Outlast in terms of longevity no, but we can't deny that when those vehicles were running, they were polluting so much. However, in terms of performance, those old-school engines can't keep up. The DD60 was the last good North American engine, even with egr and dfp. Sad they'll never come back but iver seen volvo d13s go to 1.5mill km before needing a rebuild

    • @Low760
      @Low760 Před měsícem +2

      @@wizparrissa863260 series vs the Volvo fm13 d13 had similar power and Volvo didn't need EGR to cause issues and the diagnostic systems on the Volvo motor are way better. Doing injectors on the d13 was easy and for more KMs, didn't need a new cylinder head like the 60 series. But I only have the experience as a mechanic.

      @Low760 I'm a mechanic too. Since the bus side doesnt require as much strain on the engine to move, the dd60 in Prevosts are way better than the D13s. I can't really say on the truck sideaa

    I drive in Europe and like the modern trucks with the improvements of today. What I dislike is that no European brand offers those cool Eaton Fuller manual transmissions. 13 or 18 speed. Doesn't any other driver like the technical skill required to use one of these crash boxes? I would. High gear and low gear, overdrive and direct selection - splitting. Skipping gears and precisely using C (crawler/low) gear when needed. Bragging not using the clutch 😊 . Too bad not available in Europe ....... for the pros. Note : Daf XG 530 is awesome. Thank you .🙂🙂

  • @IndigenousAmericanTrucker

    I'll take an old truck in a heartbeat! Trucks aren't meant to operate, and maneuver like four-wheelers, they are trucks! I don't want any of the technology that these newer trucks have to offer! I don't even need a GPS! A mapbook is perfectly fine to me! I'm grateful and fortunate enough to have had old school truckers teach me to drive a truck. The way they taught me has always worked and has never let me down, so I prefer to keep it that way. Technology, however, tends to let me down sometimes. Like trucker GPS's, for instance. Those things have attempted to route me to low bridges even though they were set not to. Luckily, whenever I use a GPS, I always match the route to the mapbook to make sure it's accurate, instead of following the n GPS route blindly. The truth is that technology tends to fail sometimes, and being at the controls of an 80k pound truck is not the time or place for mistakes like that. My point is that the old way is just simply the best way, just like old trucks are the best trucks!

    My opinion: ths video is great. People who complain about thing's like trucks not being manual or being too comfy, why? Its a job not a hobby, and its a job thats criticalto the world, so why not make it easier on the driver's? And people complaining about trucks beng to round and not boxy enough, thats so dumb. Its for efficiency. Its not supposed to look good. Its supposed to get the job done. Its not a logging truck, its a highway truck, so it needs aerodynamics. The people who complain about that are the same ones who talk about how pickup trucks are too luxurious and old ones used to be designed to get the job done and not be about looks. The point is old trucks definitely are better in some ways and corporate greed is a thing, but the people who complain about safety, efficiency, and emissions upgrades are dumb.

    I'll take a 90's international or anything like it any day. while smog is a problem in populated areas, all it does it push the problem to other areas of the globe like the ocean where massive emission standard free cargo carriers bring us our def, dpf and egr parts from china burning thousands of tons of dirty diesel everyday. not to mention the loss of efficiency these trucks endure from having these emissions systems on them and the extra burnt fuel required to run regen. Additionally the health effects of corrosive DEF fluid should be looked into and studied.
    It's really a shame that the truckers have to suffer with these modern regulations but the rail, water and air shipping industries do not have to follow these rules,
    these regulations make everything more expensive for everybody because now a load of apples to the supermarket costs more to ship because it's forced to be shipped on a truck that costs more to purchase, operate and maintain.
    At the end of the day, old trucks aren't going to get off the road until regulations force them to and people will keep the old trucks alive for as many generations as possible because the whole system of requiring such continuously increasing emissions standards is absurd and expensive to the point where individuals aren't going to be able to own small companies that run new trucks because they will cost far too much to keep on the road or even purchase from the beginning.
    I understand and respect the opinions of those who think these modern regulations on emissions are a good thing but I personally believe it is nothing more than manipulation of the people from politicians and federal agencies like the epa which has people running it who are appointed and not elected by the people but have free reign to control the aspects of the everyday lives and rules of the American people

    As much as I hate aftertreatment systems. They are needed. Smog levels in cities have been significantly reduced since emissions came in. EPA was also created after going to the moon and realizing how fragile our earth is and that we should be doing things to limit our carbon footprint.

    • @SurvivenTerry
      @SurvivenTerry Před měsícem +1

      They say that but California is just as smogy as it ever was. Also this entire save the earth thing is making stuff more expensive...they use less plastic but it cost us more kind of stuff.

    • @wizparrissa8632
      @wizparrissa8632 Před měsícem +2

      @SurvivenTerry well California is the worst state for that. But its also from the shipping traffic. I'm not gonna disagree that it's making things more expensive but when it comes to diesel trucks (not electric and shipping because that's a whole next issue) it is proven that aftertreatment has significantly reduced nitrous oxide and hydrocarbons that linger in the air and are harmful for our health. I can run a 2019 volvo d13 in my shop without having to connect an exhaust extractor because it burns so clean but a 2002 DD60 is unbearable without an exhaust Evac system. It sucks good trucks don't exist anymore but either does a good car. But what's even harder to find is a good technician that knows how to identify problems in a PM and are knowledgeable with diagnosing. Too many people are paying too much on parts they never had to change due to incompetent technicians that didn't pay attention in school.

If you take a look at European trucks, they come with more updated interior and exterior and European trucks are bit more modern compared to American trucks.

    Old trucks are uncomfortable, slow, poorer handling and less stable. You get out of a noisy leaf sprung Kenworth or acco or inter, rattling your body out.
    They definitely didn't go for 1.5m KMs! Engine rebuilds were common at 500,000 if that, transmissions and clutches failed earlier too. Plus worn out spring pins and bushes and uni joints from rougher roads, lack of greasing. Plus split rim tyres and smaller drum brakes.
    Overall driver comfort is more important because it causes fatigue. There's less accidents now despite there being more trucks.
    Good clickbait buddy.
