    Air fuel ratio diaphragm is blown. Pull over and pull the small cap off with the line that’s going to the intake. Start stacking dimes in that cap till your power comes back. It’s a temporary fix till you get the diaphragm fixed.

    Like others said… air/fuel diaphragm. Second thing I’d check, after double checking the aftercooler job. Mine acted up once and it ended up being a broken weight in the timing advance (that cone piece that hangs out of the front cover in front of the injection pump). Read the book carefully if you have to repair it! Had mine off a little and had fire blowing out the stack! Lol

I'm not trying to spend your money for you. But, I think you should definitely let Dr. Caterpillar have a look once you get home. Governor is what controls the rack that opens and closes the spill ports. Your throttle pedal just controls how far governor can open or closes to control RPM. Biggest issue with Governor and timing advance they wear little arms off the weights that also ride on thrust bearings They truly should be gone through every 2 years with amount of miles you put on. I've seen many runaway because governor weights worn off letting them swing out letting engine do all RPM it can do. If you think sticking a board over turbo inlet with engine screaming is not fun did it once. I got chewed out for doing this because engine could have come apart with me standing there. Pulling intake boot with engine screaming almost impossible. But in the end engine was hurt from running away. We do stand by with board after having injection pump apart "too catch engine if it tried to runaway". Don't use a book it will suck it in and eat it seen that happen once.

      That sucks. I know that frustration. The first new car that I bought developed a loud noise like a bang, but only did it on left hand turns. The dealer did everything imaginable to cure this noise to the point they hated to see me walk through their door. It was nothing to drop the car off at the dealer for an oil change, and find it with the wheels off, the axles out and the gears and bearings all over the bench. Got it back, and it started again after 25 miles. I finally made enough noise, a company rep came from the plant, and when I picked the car up, the dealer was closed. It seemed perfect the next morning when I went to work. And got half way home from work, and BANG!. Straight to the dealer I went, and asked what the company rep had to say. They told me that the differential was taken apart and all clearances, and gear lash was checked reassembled. Then they told me all the places that it was test driven and there were no noises.(approximately 40 miles.)they were literally hiding in their offices and wouldn’t come out. My Dad had picked the car up from the dealer, and they spun the same story on him. The problem that arisen this time was that I had recorded the mileage when I dropped the car off, and there was only 5 miles more on the odometer when I got in the car, home was 5 miles from the dealer. So now the dealer was pissing around for 8 months with this problem. Excuses ranged all the way from “it’s normal, to, why are you the only one having this problem. So, not a happy camper. Us car jockeys hung around this small family run gas station/service centre. I was still irritated about the recent confrontation over at the dealer. The mechanic at the service had me put the car on the hoist and then go sit in the office. Within 3 minutes he was backing the car out of the bay, and charged me a dollar for the repair. The cause of the problem: the trailing arms holding the axle bolts were not drawn up tight ... bolt was tight to the hanger, but didn’t tighten the hanger up to the trailing arm resulting in the arm sliding about an inch thus causing the noise. The noise never returned.

    Steve! When you mulled over everything you did with the Agter Cooler replacement work near the end of this specific video, it seemed like you forgot about the fact that you said you forgot to reconnect one particular wire in the prior video ir the second prior video. What was the function of the wire that you apparently forgot to re-install in its specific spot in the circuit that it belongs. From this piint in time back towards the end of February, Orwell's wire could've been the equivalent of inadvertently causing the back window circuit in your dad's 89 Suburban to short out when you re-instslled the emergency brake pedal when you were 14 years old.
    I do have a question that you or my fellow subscrbers could answer for me: does the Cat 3406-B motor have any vacum lines for the manual transmission like the gas powered 4 wheelers with manual transmissions? I ask this because of a similar situation that I once encountered with the 79 Toyota Corolla, a with a 1.6L 2TC 4 banger with a 4 speed manual transmission. I was driving up the eastbound side of a mountain (steeper grade than that of the Cajon Pass's summit on the I-15, which is like 6%) where the CA-138 meets the norther border of the CA-2 (I call it the Wrightwood California cutoff for the ski bunnies from the south side of our San Gabriel Mountain range) and I suddenly lost power. I dropped the transmission into second gear from third gear and limped up the mountain @ 20MPH. After I crested the summit/Wrightwood Cutoff (my idea) and made it to "level flat land," I still couldn't drive more than 20MPH. It turns out that a big vaccum line popped off my carburetor or the aircleaner. This vacuum line connected to the crankcase portion of the engine block or oil pan (I forgot which spot). All I know, the re-installing of a vaccum line that I didn't know to exist on an engine (when I was 22) solved the lack of power problem on that day in 1995. Orwell's lack of power issue on this day back in late February 2024 reminded me of my experience that I mentioned. Was my incident in 1995 just a Grannysmith and Red Delicious Apple coincidence?

  • @wadebower6026
    @wadebower6026 Před měsícem

    I had this issue on my 1990 k100. It actually was an easy fix but a difficult diagnosis. I took it to the cat shop. And after some checks they determined it was the diaphragm. Took it on the road less then a mile lost power again. Took it back. It ended up being the fuel diverter in the primer valve. It would roll to the open position and loose all fuel pressure. I know yours is not as bad but it’s a 60$ fix. I’d also replace the diaphragm if able.

    I know how you feel. I get the same feeling when something goes amiss with one of my vehicles when I am driving it. I just need to stop somewhere and try to figure it out. Even if I don't figure it out I for some reason feel better knowing what it isn't .

    I ran my old Freightliner out of fuel crossing Donner on 80 East bound. Thought we could get to Reno for cheaper fuel. The little fuel I had gathered at the back of the tanks away from the pickups on the mountain. And there we sat.🤦

    Check the priming pump. I have a 4MG that did that, and it ended up being the check valves in the priming pump. Over time they can get loose and turn in the bores, restricting or cutting off fuel completely. Takes 5 minutes and can save a lot of money.. If one or both are loose, just take it out. An easy check before firing the parts cannon.

    I had a DD15 fall on its face years ago, even Detroit couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. Freightliner sent engine logs to Detroit's engineers who responded 6 hours later with, "we're not sure what's wrong." Ended up reflashing the ecm.

    I wonder if the turbo wastegate is stuck partially open, it had power down low at low speed but at highway speeds where you need higher boost its not keeping up. normally we can hear turbo in the mic and im not hearing much of it. im also purely speculating.
